More keystone cops antics from the Russians in Ukraine
They must be saving fuel by towing lorries
Let's never lose sight of...
Fúck Putin!
Definitely looks like Moldova is getting prepared for special attention
That's how our neutrality arose but it's more than that now. A lot of people are proud of Ireland being a neutral country. It's part of who we are.
66% percent in favour of it. And that's with war in Ukraine. It's not just an opinion that's held by many people, it's cultural at this stage. And those sort of things are very hard to shift. Just like Germany's view of itself.
BTW, I do think Germany should do more. I'm just pointing out that these sort of things can be engrained in a public consciousness.
But what about the war?
Lavrov sends his regards, keep it up.
I was more conscious of this not becoming a discussion about Irelands neutrality.
Irelands neutrality historical and otherwise has no bearing on Germany doing what they've said they're doing.
And again I believe there is a large disconnect between the support for Ukraine and various German politicians playing games with Germany quite happily selling missiles, guns and rockets to the Russians following the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and Germany now dithering about doing the same for Ukraine because "reasons" which apparently have nothing to do with Germany continuing to import Russian gas and oil.
A group of people protested near the Russian embassy in Dublin this afternoon over the many reports of rape emerging from war-torn Ukraine.
It was the second Saturday that the group, growing in numbers, stood outside the embassy with bags over their heads, some with their hands tied and all with red liquid smeared on their legs.
Irish and Ukrainian, men and women gathered and stood in silence for half an hour in solidarity with those who have been raped and sexually assaulted amid the ongoing war.
One participant said those from Ukraine are very stressed and worried about the wellbeing of their family and friends back home.
Now in its second week with plans in place to return next Saturday morning at 10am for 45 minutes, Aoife said they have received great public support from cars and passers-by.
Well done to everybody involved in these protests outside the Embassy in Dublin.
Either it's a new front or Russia will move to a new land grab ,not looking good in Moldova right now
Hopefully not true.
(on second article) Jaysus, looking at those photos of the PBP supporters with the STOP PUTIN STOP NATO placards, sigh.
As per other posts above Irish neutrality, being anti all wars/anti violence/anti weapons & armies etc. really is deeply engrained into the psyche here but unfortunately Putin/Russia's assault on Ukraine and his abuse of its people there is not going to be halted by diplomacy and protests.
But at least they are making some trouble outside the Russian's embassy here + apparently getting on their wick which is more than I'm doing so...shrug.
edit: I see that is just an older "stock" photo from the Feb. protests now, which were commented on here at that time. Apologies.
So another russian false flag to justify an invasion?I guess Moldova wont be as hard as Ukraine to conquer,a more worthy equal opponent for Russia.
However who is next after this?Where do we draw the line?
At this stage there's an awful lot of fog and unverified claims on both sides. The only thing certain is there's a lot of death and suffering and any desirable resolution seems a long way off.
As the saying goes, 'every little helps'. Can you imagine if there were no protests... at all. Governments wouldn't be exercised for long if their people didn't show how they feel. Then Putrid would have free reign.
That's it so far the Moldovan government has been very quiet
First of all, as a matter of democratic principle and not directly related to this specific question, 33% is a significant minority and they shouldn't be ignored, quite the opposite, their views should be taken into consideration whenever possible. This is what separates true democracy from the tyranny of the majority.
On this particular question, people are supporting strict military neutrality as in against direct involvement:
But today’s poll shows that a strong majority of voters do not favour any change in the current practice of military neutrality, which is generally understood as precluding Ireland from joining any military alliance – such as Nato – and requires a United Nations Security Council resolution for Irish troops to be committed abroad.
...
Just 35 per cent of respondents agreed with the statement: “Ireland should send military aid to Ukraine, even if this affects our neutrality”, while 55 per cent disagreed.
...but not complete neutrality
While the invasion of Ukraine has prompted support for that country – a large majority of voters (70 per cent) support tougher sanctions even if it results in higher costs here – that support does not extend to helping Ukraine with military aid.
As for the Germany question, the reason they don't do more has nothing to to with the "public consciousness" and everything to do with the russian gas and money.
Its either Moldova,Ukraine or CIA/MI6 who will be blamed for this, most likely Moldova,so they have an excuse to invade.
Seems German has suddenly changed face again this is big if true
Because being embarrassed by one former Soviet satellite is never enough.
Amazing the way so many have forgotten the lessons of the past.
You can continue to ignore the suffering of others. Don't assume because others won't, that they are warmongers, or 'left'.
Exactly,i hope Moldova inspired by Ukraine give them a bloody nose as well
ELINT has been very busy at the Moldova boarder the last few weeks
The pressure must of gotten to Scholz
To me the WW3 threats always smack of them being desperate that things are not going their way.
Presumably, as there's a chunk of free Ukraine in the way, they could only attack it by flying paratroopers (do they have any/many left?) over Ukraine (could prove disastrous for them) or hit it with Cruise missiles (again, have they many left?).
Eamonn Ryan will be taking note.
Moldova as it stands are In a pretty bad situation , the military is about 5000 strong ,no aircover or jets , very little artillery and anti tank weapons or anti aircraft or tanks
Without Russia taking Odessa and are able to make a landbridge to Moldova,it will only be a the russian troops in Transnistria, and thats only a few thousand troops.
And to fly paratroopers in over Ukraine or NATO territory will be risky
I don't see what the Russians would gain by invading Moldova while they are getting burned out in Ukraine. Seems like a waste of resources to me.
Yup
Like the Russians always bringing up the Nuclear bomb stuff
