I don't believe that Putin was ever seriously interested in diplomacy. He probably got off on the idea of European leaders coming to him and begging him to end the war, though.
This is where the war has the potential to become very long, drawn out and full of even more suffering. Putin settling in for the long haul, interest in the West waning, a lack of cohesive policy (just compare UK to Germany and France) and Ukraine heroically resisting but paying a horrendous price.
Basically, wars end through negotiation or one side militarily defeating the other. If there's no negotiated settlement, where does this end? Ukraine can't defeat Russia militarily. And Russia, short of going nuclear, seems incapable too. Which leaves a protracted, bloody stalemate as the most likely scenario.

I don't really care if Putin is settling in for the long haul, and no-one else should either, because Putin's delusion does not get to dictate some hard realities. If he keeps feeding men into a meat grinder, he's going to bleed political support which will make the sustaining of a long term grind quite difficult. The Ukrainians may not have jungles to hide in like the Vietnamese, or mountains like the Afghans, but they do have a serious amount of western firepower being poured into the country. They also know that their fight is essentially existential, whereas Russian motivation is likely all over the shop. Putin cannot afford a long term, bloody stalemate, in my opinion. He needs a hard win, or else his position as leader of Russia is in serious trouble.
Wouldn't it be poetic justice if a couple of these shells were exploded in front of the review stand of Putin's Victory Day parade - fléchettes and all.

If Ukraine were of a mind to follow your general advice, they'd have rolled over the first day. Yes they are paying a high price but are also inflicting a great cost on the Russian military, how long can they sustain that. Putin can frame his invasion anyway he likes but sooner or later the mounting body bags coming back, combined with loss of jobs and spiralling inflation with do him.
These are Bosch hi-pressure injector pumps, and they can be found in many different engines world wide. These pumps were being used back in the 60's ( or maybe earlier ) by several different engine manufacturers, and might even have replaced the original Russian made injector pumps. They are manufactured in China (Like so many other components, look around your kitchen and you will see several examples) so I would not be reading too much into any specific links with Germany over these.
Doesn't say much for Ukraine if the likes of Bulgaria and Romania managed to join years previously.
The reason a NATO country like Romania still relies on antique MiG-21s is due to the high lvl of corruption and its effect on their economy and military procurement.

Nope, not in the slightest. Just take a look around your house, especially the electrics, and see how many "Made in China" labels you can see. And as for car manufacturing.....remember when China had its complete covid lock down? The manufacturing world ground to a halt. ( it was a wakeup call for the world to see just how dependent it had become on Chinese manufacturing.) So yes, even high tech high precision components are made in China under license from the original company's.

The use of flechettes as antipersonnel weapons has been controversial.
As a rule fléchettes have been phased out due to their wide pattern of attack. Intended for stopping massed infantry attacks, using them on civilians targets is rare.

Well I'll stand over what was said. And it was my German girlfriend of the time who first brought my attention to the problem of behaviour as described where things like queuing is certainly not a normal consideration regardless.
And yes I've already detailed - yes they're generalisations based on reality of having lived there for a considerable period.
Watched a program last night about the final days of Berlin. The deliberate onslaught and focus on German non-combatants by the Russian army was barbaric. For example, they would deliberately use heavy artillery to decimate civilians as they crossed bridges en masse. Now I understand that the Russians were fighting Nazis (real Nazis) at the time, but their modus operandi seem to be identical 77 years later in Ukraine with the terror bombing of civilians in cities, towns and villages. What is also very notable is how the Russian army, supposedly a modern army, is still raping their way across captured territories. It is estimated that 2 million German women and girls were raped by Soviet soldiers during the final months of the war, and yet again in 2022 they are continuing with this different form of terror in Ukraine.
I believe that President Zelenksyy is correct in asking the United States to designate Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism, as that is exactly what the Russians are doing in Ukraine.
You think Putin's downfall is certain. I think, unfortunately, he'll get at least the Eastern regions and survive, and that Ukraine will pay the far higher price. Time will tell ...

That's my experience and funny thing is I'm not only one to relate the same. And it was my then German girlfriend who first warned me about the general absence of queuing type etiquette and other social type behaviours in Germany

Atrocious queuers Germans are atrocious queuers. The image of a nation of respectful rule-followers is warranted, but they are surprisingly prone to skip lines or even barge other, more patient queuers out of the way.
