Chapters Bookstore is re opening this Friday.
The new Natural Bakery that has just opened in Frascati Centre seems the same. Their model appears to be "big unit, loads of space, not much of it used". Smells nice as you walk past it!

Bookstation in Nutgrove relocating to old Trespass shop (opposite the 3 shop).
For a so called "artisan bakery" it tastes strangely similar to Cuisine de France to me at artisan prices aswell.

It was my local or 6 years and I could never warm to it. It seemed back to front, the cosy, snug type parts were at the front where everyone was passing through and you could hear the traffic constantly. The bar at the back, I found cold and open plan. Great location.
Ah the Punchbowl was a great spot. The little smoking hut out the back, putting the pool table out, uncovered, for no good reason... great bunch of lads

There's a new Dunnes/Garden centre place going in besides Avova in Monkstown.
On the corner where Alan Dorgan Motors (soft top specialists) used to be? The garden centre has been there for several months now, the official name is: 'Diarmuid Gavin at Dunnes Stores'.
Dunnes now wants to expand the place to include a convenience store but they're up against some local objections who are using classic jargon from the NIMBY playbook... "there is no possible planning justification to now permit Dunnes Stores to open in a small historic village setting”.
It's nothing but naked snobbery, similar to when certain suburbs (e.g. Portmarnock or Castleknock) object to an Aldi or Lidl but give them a sniff of an Avoca or Donnybrook Fair and they'll roll out the red carpet.

Ah ok didn't realise that, assume Dunnes fancy food etc wouldn't be appreciated by Avoca etc a few doors up.

Golden Discs are providing an expansion with adding a new concept store in Dundrum Town Centre to include pop culture memorabilia & clothing from major comic book brands like Marvel & DC. It will be open to customers on Record Store Day which takes place this Saturday.
I'll guess that this new concept store from Golden Discs is adding some more competition to other stores like GameStop and Big Bang Comics that are already selling these items like this already from within the centre.
Fair play to Golden Discs, its a big unit and they've been able to make it work when a not of old school music shops have closed. Also additional space there we the golf shop closed.
I didn't know the golf shop in Dundrum TC had closed. When did that happen? Was that during Covid?
They used to be out the back of Golden Discs, then they took the space that used to be the gadget shop, I think the last time I looked they are still there.
I assume the new addition to Golden Discs will be just be that area down the back?

Not sure about that, how many people actually buy tickets in a shop anymore? The TM booth in the Stephens Green centre has shut.

It's great to hear that Golden Discs are considering to open another 1 or 2 shops in Ireland. Are they opening these potential new stores outside of Dublin?
Golden Discs are doing fine. Mostly thanks to vinyl.
Walked through Golden Discs yesterday. They basically just moved all the crap like t-shirts, posters, and pop figures up the steps where the golf shop was.
And then plonked stacks of record players in big boxes in that space at the back as filler. Doesn't look like anything new to be fair.
That never paid well and doesn't exist anymore anyway - Ticketmaster have closed all agents.
I'd imagine e-tickets put an end to that
Should probably clarify that Trespass have not gone, they moved to a smaller unit next door (where the post office was before it moved outside?). Its an interesting tactic in the face of the arrival of Regatta|Great Outdoors in the large former Life Style Sports unit (Life Style have left).
Still open. Someone who works in the centre told me he heard they aren't actually closing.
No decision yet from An Bord Pleanala (was due on May 3rd) on the Dunnes Stores application for a new store at Monkstown Crescent. See post #5385 above. The original application was refused by DLR co co.

5 Guys in Frascati have finally taken out all the fittings from the store.
Tbh if they have reopened other locations after the pandemic I don't know why this one is special. Unless the model itself just hasn't worked in Ireland and the corona got them an escape clause out of their blackrock commitment....
