yea i looked into this a few years ago, after only discovering public banking, and surprisingly i found a couple of parties had it on their manifesto, this would have been shortly after the crash, so banking would have been on everyones mind, unfortunately it has fallen off most manifestos now

Seems to have dropped off. I know years ago after the crash a public type bank was trying to open up in Dublin. But I think it was shot down or failed to happen. It was on the Business Post but the year escapes me now. Seemed like an excellent idea but not sure if Credit Unions started to push for it to be stopped as well

I've seen some information on that alright. As you said its not only the greens proposing that idea.

That said the greens (amongst others) were certainly asleep at the wheel when the bank guarantee was foisted on the country. Considering the disaster of subsequent legislation they've currently been provisioning the country with, there's nothing that inspires me with any confidence they could get banking right either.

these are the only groups i know of in ireland that have been trying to create public banks in ireland

    http://republicirelandbank.com/

think they could be the same group, but they havent seemed to gotten very far with the process

the public banking institute of America seems to be making progress

yea its a fair comment, i think our political class are basically completely lost when it comes to critical issues such as banking, none seem to know what banks actually do, its also important to realise if such a system was introduced here, it would be critical not to allow politicians within an arses roar of them!

I did say it should be fun hearing how the cultists were going to attempt to explain the reasoning behind Ryan granting licenses to an industry that has a very poor record environmentally and is of no real benefit to the state while at the same time he sits on his hands on Barryroe and is attempting to ban LNG.

I`m not surprised that when it comes to you, as per usual, your reply provides nothing other than comedy value.

Says all that needs to be said about the present bunch when the likes of Patricia McKenna looks on them as a bunch of clueless lunatics.

It was something to do with Institute of America I think, it was a number of years ago. I think they tried to open an office over South Side close to Shelbourne Road direction

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,768 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

im not surprised at that, ellen brown(president of the public banking institute) was here giving public talks at the time, this is when i discovered her and public banking in general, but our movement has seemed to have died a death since, the pbi's movement seems to be moving along in the states, although slowly

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭brokenangel

It was around the time I also figured out what it was :-)

I am full sure it was an office over that side of city, when it started to die a death I think the office never started. I haven't heard about it in years till I seen the Greens come up with it. With KBC and Ulster Bank pulling out it is a huge requirement in Ireland

Like our local Credit Union is backing off to Ulster Bank, so you can't lodge more than 1200 per month. Plus all sorts of other messing around. Pointless

i think public banks are urgently needed for many different reasons, not just providing citizens with their banking needs, but to potentially safe guard us from national and international financial shocks, but they would also introduce their own risks and problems. i think two types of public banks should be introduced here, from a public infrastructure bank to a citizen based public bank, similar to germanys sparkasse

Thing is we're not going to get any explanations or discussion on the story of prospecting licenses being awarded by Mr Ryan in North Leitrim because it makes the greens look A. Bad B. Clueless and C. Idiotic.

So it's a mad scramble to throw some shapes how everyone is just "slagging" the green party without reason or something lol.

And then another desperate attempt at whistling dixie whilst the whole ship goes up in flames.

As someone once said. You actually couldn’t make this up if you tried 😀

We have huge risks already with BOI/AIB/PTSB, all who run themselves as if the public owe them for providing a service. Plus if the poo hits the fan they expect the government just to bail them out again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,768 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

true, but just bare in mind, some well respected public banks still needed to be bailed out before, i.e. moving your banking more so into the public domain doesnt necessarily mean no bailouts or failures.....

It`s very transparent that there is one poster on here that if Eamon said day was night that poster would believe him without question and then tell us to "read back" as proof he was correct.

When you are within the margin of error in the opinion polls, listening to the public politically should be a wake up call. Especially when the likes of Patricia McKenna are looking at you as a clueless idiots.

I see you are attempting to deflect, as per usual, from the latest lunacy with public banking, or perhaps you believe it all part of a green party master-plan to build a Fort Knox to hold gold and silver from Donegal and Leitrim as collateral for a new currency to be used in this public banking system.

Nothing would surprise me at this stage when it comes to this bunch of lunatics

germany has also given the rest of the world the two fingers in regards cutting off russian energy dependency! germanys looking after germany!

Is An Post not our public bank??

Antiquated and not fit-for-purpose but it's there and could be utilised and improved. Not that I can ever see that happening.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Anyone know any more about this? I would hope its not going to just be more stika everywhere.

RTE news : Plan to plant 100,000 hectares of new forest in Ireland

Not to get all poetic, but your post reminded me of what was said about a poet and a few lines from a particular poem.

With the prospecting licenses for Donegal and Leitrim the greens reminded me of what was said about Byron. Mad, bad and dangerous to know.

The ship going up in flames reminded me of that line from Casabianca where "The boy stood on the burning deck, Whence all but he had fled....". could not be said of Brokenangel`s scrambling not to go anywhere near that ship.

Someone mentions gas and broken slags posters off and defends the GP.

Someone mentions that the GP have granted Environmentally unfriendly mining licences and broken goes back to public banking.

😂😂 address the issue will ya!

Less of your smoke and mirrors.

Are you in agreement with the mining licences that Eamon has just handed out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,049 ✭✭✭Mecanudo

I tend to like analogies a lot. Those ones are fairly good all right.

Though for the green party et al - the image that comes most frequently to mind is this one

    Untitled Image

And thats not because claims we're all doomed because of climate change and environmental degradation, but rather that we will all be doomed if the bunch of clueless twats in the gp aren't kicked out soon, we will be!

yet you continue to add anything of value to the conversation but talk about the poster ALL the time......

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,768 ✭✭✭✭Wanderer78

yea this is questionable, id have to go with a more so no, but i cant give you a definitive on that, but i do think the postal system is a perfect infrastructure to implement one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,242 ✭✭✭brokenangel

Im not saying it does. All I am saying is we are not getting a great service from the current banks and the lack of competition in Banking in Ireland should be a concern.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,965 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

Good luck with that Tom, but I have a strong feeling your chances of that happening on past history from that poster are in the zero to sweet f a category.

Smoke and mirrors sums it up alright. There has been all party consensus on public banking back, from memory, as far as 2018 at least and the irony seems to be lost on the poster that while attempting to distract from the latest green party contradictions on prospecting licenses with public banking, an Irish Green party MEP just a few months ago contacted Irish banks urging them not to lend to farmers.

Looks like the greens favour and urban bank rather than a public one. But then, as they keep showing when the left hand doesn`t know what the right is doing themselves, it`s difficult for anyone else to know what they want.

Heres a picture of a recent green party meeting and nowt a word about banking apparently 🤷‍♂️

It's dirty under the table shenanigans like this and Eamon Ryans interfering with the planning process where he told An Bord Pleanála that it shouldn't give permission to the Shannon LNG terminal, that shows what the green party think of the countries financial and state bodies, which apparently they seem to believe they can walk all over regardless of their mandate or otherwise.

Whatever their latent communist ideologies may be - that kind of shite in a democratic country is likley to come back and bite them.
