The reality is it is a fast moving thread at times, and it is not always possible to keep up especially when not on Boards for a few hours, and even when you do start reading through it's possible to miss a post or a point made, that can even happen as your typing out a post.

Once as far as I recall the largest ship in the Navy. Only their (out of action Carrier) and 2 Battlecruisers are bigger. Very powerful but western assessment in the 80s believed that they carries too many weapons systems to be really effective.

The Pentagon confirms the sunken cruiser is heading back to port under it's own steam for repairs.
Military experts say those "repairs" could take a year or two (if they ever happen).
Latest news is that one of the smaller Russian rescue vessels may have been sunk as it attempted to come alongside the Moskva - caught up in the fire and explosions.

And not only is it a standard subsonic anti-ship cruise missile: it's of Soviet/Russian design and some 30 years old. It's literally the only anti-ship missile which Ukraine possesses; and yet knowing all that they still failed to defeat it.

The Neptune ASM was based on an old Russian design and has considerably improved electronics and range and is not an old soviet design and it's not standard: It only entered service in Ukraine's navy in March 2021.
It's a very young weapon system.
It is a derivative with upgraded electronics and range; neither of which Russia were unaware of and neither of which affect how easy it is to detect and shoot down. Which for the third time now is my precise point.

Detecting and shooting down sea skimming missiles is not easy, that's why the are skimming in the first place, you are spouting nonsense.

It has always been a sea skimming missile; as is the missile it is derived from. Nowhere did I claim it is not a sea skimming missile; and nowhere did I claim they are "easy" to shoot down.
The point is that the Moskva was designed and built to defend itself from anti-ship missiles, is Russia's flag ship in the Black Sea, was under full war-time conditions and still got sunk by a 30 year old design it knew Ukraine had.
