Seems very significant seen this commemt elseware and if even partly correct its significant
"The Russians are going to have to rethink what they are doing. The ship was hit by 2x Neptunes and also suffered ammo cook off, 64 s300's on board and was providing air defence across the whole south of UA. Now the Ukranians can let the drones and air support fly, which will help the Kherson assault and who knows, maybe help Mariupol in some way (if they can hold out). Slava Ukraini! "
I'm a little surprised that we haven't yet seen any satellite photos of the damaged Moskva. I'm assuming that Ukraine/NATO knows exactly where it is/was. Even if it has since sunk, that part of the world must have round the clock satellite coverage.
Might be hard to find if its sunk?
The Russians are now claiming that Moskva is still afloat and fires have been extinguished and she's being towed back to port, rather than being sunk. Even if that is the case, it's pretty obvious that the ship is out of the fight, and will likely require significant repairs before she'll be able to return back to duty. It's a major victory either way, and to be honest, it would probably be an even bigger victory for Ukraine if footage or photos of Moskva being towed back into Sevastopol with a charred hull and superstructure appeared. The PR value of that would be off the scale.
According to the orcs ,
It's currently being towed by tug to a Russian port after they put out the fire
The US have thermal and radar-capable satellites, eg Lacrosse, that should be able to see through the clouds.
But understandable if they don't want to advertise their capability on Twitter.

Quickbird have near infrared, but probably don't have 24*7 coverage that US military have.

Russia starting to target their greatest foe:-
LOL :) That sums it up.
A Russian Navy, TU-154, one of Tupelov's iconic aircraft ( some of which still fly with a radio operator and navigator) is approaching Crimea after a very long, circuitous route from St.Petersburg.
I don't thing anyone is laughing and the outcome is as of yet entirely uncertain.
Russia still threatening other countries and trying to tell them what they can and cant do.
Putin sees himself as the all conquering hero.
What next, the Moon?
Wouldn't it be great if there was a penal colony on the Moon.
We could confiscate the billions he has stashed away and send him there. He'd probably still be posing and trying to project the tough guy image, just in case there were any little green men watching from behind a moon rock.
apparently the scum ship is still afloat :(
I dont think the Secret Service would let him go just yet and ultimately they decide where a US President can go. If they feel they cant guarantee a Presidents safety and life they can refuse to bring him there. He will show up at some stage but it will be unannounced and he'll likely be departing before the world knows about it, similar to Boris on Saturday who was gone before the media footage of his visit got released.
Digging in is a terrible strategy for the Russians given the weapons available to the Ukrainians now. Howitzers and suicide drones. I would not like to be relying on a couple of tons of earth and 20 sand bags to keep me safe from those.
Large tank drives aren't a great option either. And given the Ukrainians vastly superior night fighting capabilities this could get very messy for the Russians
Bet they don't release a picture!
When Russian was in Afghanistan, the Afghans united and fought tooth and claw against them, they were the common enemy ( and unbelievers to boot! ) the same way Ukraine is doing now. But when the US pulled out, Afghanistan descended into its patchwork quilt of different clans and alliances. For most Afghans in the military, it was just a job, and very few were battle hardened, certainly not enough to stop the Taliban" at the gates" as it were. They were not professional soldiers as we would understand the term. Now just imagine a different scenario...Its the Ukraine the US pulled out of, after supplying and training the army for many years. I'd say that even assuming that Putin would even think about attacking Ukraine, it would have been a 3 day event all right, with the Russian Army demolished, and possibly chased all the way back to Moscow. But that begs a thought....I wonder how much US military hard wear ex Afghanistan will find its way to Ukraine????
with a supply of smart weapons and US intelligence telling the Ukrainians where to point them, I agree that this could get really bad for the Russian conscript. Putin won’t care though….he’ll just pile in body after body for as long as he needs to
Note that the Russians don't actually deny that the Moskva was hit by missiles - just very carefully couched language about a 'fire' on board which was brought under control.
I wonder if Ukraine has an agent currently taking bids for the video footage from the TB-2 of the Moskva being hit and then all they way up to it finally sinking? That would be worth a pretty penny.
Balls of steel.
Russia losing stuff https://twitter.com/Blue_Sauron/status/1514516686631845889?s=20&t=jxC_6ABUy9vBCe3TTvVCgQ
Moskva has been severely damaged, Moscow has said, following an explosion went on to say the entire crew was evacuated.
Also reports now its starting to sink.
If the ship 'was' hit by two missiles and went on fire (and we have every reason to believe it was), then the Russians are lying through their teeth as usual - that could only mean hundreds of sailors killed and the ship unsalvageable.
NASA my arse.
"Comet C/2014 UN271 was discovered by astronomers Pedro Bernardinelli and Gary Bernstein using archival images from the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile. The comet has been observed since 2010, when it was 3 billion miles away from the sun, and has been studied since then." https://text.npr.org/1092535922
The Romans would never have seen it and enether will we as the closest it will ever get to the syn is just out beyond the orbit of Saturn, so no tail for you, Bernardinelli /Bernstein, I'm afraid.
Some US news outlets are irresponsibly running around claiming it was 'discovered' by Hubble, when it wasn't.
Was not even the Taliban, who have some kind of command and control system in place, it was the Mujahedeen, who operated its own individual type war, controlled by their local clan chief or warlord. So with sandals on their feet, wearing a shalwar kamaz, and carrying an AK47, they defeated the Russians. They mauled the Russian soldiers, and if Russia now manages to take the Donbass region, I can see them getting the same mauling again. If or when Donbass is taken Putin will claim it as a victory, and use it to withdraw "Gracefully" from Ukraine, but for sure, it will be impossible to keep.
This is interesting
Hopefully Maxtar will release a satellite image to embarras them.
This is what pure totalitarianism looks like
Don't think who discovered it or didn't was the point of the comment. But more importantly if you check
The title of the BBC news article is
Nasa scientists spy 'largest comet ever seen'
That's " SPY" and not "discovered btw
And if you read the article. You would have seen this.
"According to a statement from the space agency, it was discovered by astronomers Pedro Bernardinelli and Gary Bernstein in archival images from the Dark Energy Survey at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory in Chile."
And no I didn't say the Romans would've seen it back then. I said "if the Romans were still around "
if the Romans were still around "
And more importantly I did not quote Any "US News outlets".
US News outlets
So your "arse" is irrelvant I'm afraid"
"arse"
But nothing like a load of passionate exaggeration to belabour a point
But no matter 🤓
