NI Women's football manager, Kenny Shiels, committed a major faux pas yesterday by saying something everyone believes to be true.

Punishment yet to be decided but I'd imagine a sacking followed by a prolonged social-media pile-on and eventual cancelation will suffice.

it's so annoying on skysportsnews or any other channel giving results it's very confusing, i really dont enjoy sport on tv as much anymore as the "experts" are sooooo bad, male or female as they are usually the token "expert" and not quipped to actually do the job.

I actually didn't think anyone believed that any more, and I'm fairly sure recent studies have shown that it's not true. Other studies have shown that there's a gender bias in describing emotion in sport. When men display emotion, it's passion. When women display emotion, it's irrational.

I don't think he deserves a sacking but it is a bit of a silly thing to say.

To be fair on this occasion the headline on Sky is actually being generous to Shiels. He didn't just say that women are more emotional than men. He suggested that they were unable to cope emotionally with conceding a goal because they are women. That's a bit insulting to be fair and I reckon ironically it may have been his own emotional response to being humbled last night.

I wouldn't watch women's football if it was on in my back garden, but what he said was pretty bad when he is supposed to be in charge of a women's team and I don't see how he could walk into that changing room again.

I must have missed the studies which prove Women’s football teams concede goals in quick succession because they get too emotional.

Although it also happened in the Ireland game last night against Sweden after they conceded an equaliser and were bombarded with pressure from the 2nd best team in the world.

Oh wait. It didn’t. They held on for one of the greatest results in women’s football in this country.

I had the unfortunate experience yesterday of listening to RTE1 on the radio, they were talking about the Irish team playing the Swedish team, and that the Swedes were the best in the world at the moment, oh news to me but maybe.... it took about 5min before they mentioned they were talking about the women's team
