Russia are up on away goals
In terms of Russia achieving it's initial aims for Ukraine, they are failing. In terms of military equipment lost, Russia is currently losing at a rate of 3 to 1. In terms of international optics they have fully lost the information war. In terms of international reaction, it has been far more severe than the Russians envisioned.
Are the Ukrainians "winning"? broad term, I don't know, but of all the possible scenarios to occur after invasion, at present Russia are probably close to one of worst outcomes possible.
Warning on the below
A lot of Russians living abroad seem to be right wing Russian nationalists and strong supporters of the regime (which is a bit shocking and surprising).
They're not doing themselves any favours and may make themselves targets for active discrimination in their host countries if they keep this up.
And before anyone tries to say this is "hysteria", a reminder, there is utterly no reason for mobile crematoriums. At no point do Russian soldiers want to be cremated on Ukrainian soil. These vehicles are purely there to get rid of "evidence" and their existence is extremely disturbing
Sickening tramps. We are far too tolerant of this rubbish here- free speech is a privilege that is earned respectfully. Not something to be thrown around for tramps to do and say what they please. These people are guests in our nations/s. You wouldn’t go to a friends house and piss allover their carpets. This is exactly what these thugs are doing.
The what now? Those Irish companies dealt with a corrupt and autocratic state to make some profits as did many others. Presumably they did well from it in the "good" years. They got burned badly. Hopefully it will be a good object lesson. Is all the trade Western countries and their companies did with Russia now Germany's fault or something?
Cannot believe the Russians will take Mariupol and the West will or can do nothing about it. Makes me so fcuking angry.
These RuSSian bastards have wiped out a city and massacred its population, and guess what, they are probably going to get away with it. And we stand by while our leaders goes 'tut tut'
Fcuk there must be something more that can be done.
Cnuts need to be absolutely taken out. What kind of scumbag army shoots kids.
Seems to be the case alright because most people would maybe keep their head down a bit under the circumstances and would take local feelings into account and keep the life they have .Not too many seem in a hurry to head back home .
Well an incursion of nuclear armed planes into your airspace might well focus your thinking on certain topics. Of course the putrid 3D chess master failed to see there were two possible logical moves in response to such a stupid threat.
The OSCE "Report On Violations Of International Humanitarian And Human Rights Law, War Crimes And Crimes Against Humanity Committed In Ukraine Since 24 February 2022" has been released:-
"In conclusion, while under the present circumstances a detailed assessment of most allegations of IHL violations and the identification of war crimes and crimes against humanity concerning particular incidents has not been possible, the Mission found clear patterns of IHL violations by the Russian forces on many of the issues investigated. This concerns in particular their conduct of hostilities. It is not conceivable that so many civilians would have been killed and injured and so many civilian objects, including houses, hospitals, cultural property, schools, multi-story residential buildings, administrative buildings, penitentiary institutions, police stations, water stations and electricity systems would have been damaged or destroyed if Russia had respected its IHL obligations in terms of distinction, proportionality and precautions in conducting hostilities in Ukraine. The conduct of the siege of Mariupol is an extreme example. Much of the conduct of Russian forces in parts of Ukraine it occupied before and after 24 February 2022, including through its proxies, the self-proclaimed “republics” of Donetsk and Luhansk, equally violates IHL of military occupation."
All is not well in the KGB it appears

Indeed. Russia is A northern Korean style thug state. Except even worse as regards foreign policy. You deal with them at your own risk - it’s a relatively small nation of 140 million of declining wealth and population. Plenty more stable nations and honest cultures around the world to trade legitimately with
Have Russia achieved any goals or put themselves in a position to strengthen their country in the long run?
Russia are the invaders and currently, 6 weeks in, do not have effective control on anything they did not have prior to the start. By continuing to exist and uniting support behind their cause Ukraine are winning
Plenty that can be done but no will to do so. Western governments are either too worried about hitting their own economy or are happy to see a protracted war that bankrupts Russia. We saw with the downing of the Malaysian Airlines plane that even the west's own citizens weren't valued enough to illicit a response. Its very unlikely to happen for the Ukrainians.
Yes. There was some big picture logic or strategy there with the Germany-Russia energy ties apart from just greed, though policy has finally failed catastrophically and backfired badly now. Unfortunately Russia is large and has a lot of resources people all over the world want, so it is probably not going to be made into a big N. Korea, even with these sanctions I fear. Afaik that country is a wreck that is closed off from the world, can barely feed its population, and spends almost all its resources on its military. I just don't see Russia sinking that low.
They've only lost the "information war" in Europe and America. I don't think it's the case in the rest of the world.
It’s not surprising once you accept the Russian psyche and mentality. Our open door welcoming policy to migration allows this to go on and behaviour completely unchecked. The aul “ah sure that’s free speech” line gets trotted out- there must be no tolerance or equivalence allowed or given here
none zero once they are in Nato thats it, this is why they keep these separatist disputes going in countries like Ukraine and Moldova to stop them joining as one of the conditions of joining Nato is that all territorial disputes have to be settled
wouldn't be surprised if Finland suddenly had a separatist movement conveniently pop up in the next few months
A group of women are protesting outside the Russian embassy in Tallinn, Estonia today. Specifically a protest about sexual violence against women in Ukraine.
Doesn't seem to have been picked up by the media much.
Protest presents a pretty stark image, 20 women bound with bags over their heads and blood running down their legs

Finland is a very stable nation, no quarter is given to “Russian” separatists or those kind of agitators. Their military is very strong and there’s a huge tradition of service for now very obvious reasons. They gave the Russians what they deserved in WW2 and will do it again if they ever needed to.
Wouldn't agree, the rest of the world seems to be reporting much the same, and Ukraine-centric (except for places like China of course)
Even though simulated - those photos are tough viewing. Brings it home.
Sri Lanka warned of it yesterday. Inflation is crippling them, may well become a regular thing this coming year especially once food shortages kick in across the globe. Scary **** on it's way for the global economy
West is like
'' if you invade Ukraine we will react '' Putin invades
'' if you attack things other than military targets we will react'' Putin flattens whole cities
'' if you attack hospitals and schools we will react'' Putin bombs hospitals and schools''
'' if you attack civilians we will reacts '' rapes and kills women and children''
'' if you use chemical weapons we will react'' Uses Chemicals weapons
Putin is like REACT ALREADY, WHAT TO I NEED TO DO FFS
Another thing that's unbelievable is you thinking that the US and the UK would actually consider pulling out of NATO with all that is currently going on.
Exactly, the organic farming thing is from the "all or nothing" handbook of failed states. I can't believe they didn't properly test it.
Sweden doesn't border Russia, so it's not likely to rattle them, Finland and Georgia will be huge though when it happens
