Article printed on 9th April 2022, photo taken days ago outside Dublin airport terminal.
T1 seems to be the major pinch point. That said my cousin had an Aer Lingus flight to Rome this morning at 06:20am and got to the airport at 3am just in case there was a back log. He just texted me from Rome, said he got there too early , T2 security Q was fine.
So it just seems to be T1 security is the issue, heard DAA are short of 200 security personnel.

The pictures were from before the airport in general opened.
The average time to get through security was less than an hour at the absolute peak and in most cases less than 45 minutes. That's real people giving their times.
Mid morning it was under 20 minutes.
So just be careful of looking at a photo and making assumptions.
Can you elaborate on why the morale is poor. Is it due to bad management?
For anyone considering applying or shortlisted for ICO at Dublin airport, morale is very poor , roster is horrible, its anti social and anti family.
If your a single lad in your 20's, well and good, go for it.
There has been a high turnover of staff in the past few years, long shifts, poor conditions provided by the DAA for DOJ personnel at Dublin airport.
A friend of mine only stayed for 12 months and he got a transfer out a few years back before the new contracts came in whereby you are stuck for a minimum of 4 years.
Ive no ill will or malice btw as Im currently and already working in the public sector.
Just feedback Im getting from many sources out at the airport currently.
Excuse me, maybe I haven't made myself clear. I'm not assuming, I'm simply saying that this is a disaster and out of control. And yet is not only Dublin Airport at the moment. This is a stage of chaos that no Airport wanna go through. Holidays are coming, summer is knocking on the door. I can't believe the fact that they weren't expecting this to happen.
I was in Spain last week, was through Customs in Minutes. The way it should be
Obviously you have not been to many airports recently.
Manchester has had queues that took over 10 hours - it's down to "only 3-4 hours" at peak now. Stansted and Heathrow have 2-3 hour clearance on average. Birmingham is utter chaos this week.
At least Dublin has put some controls in to stop people crowding in the terminal building itself which is why the queues are outside.
The average time to go through security this morning was under an hour because of how they did crowd control. So maybe check the context of a picture before assuming the worst.
Airports all over Europe are also having issues due to higher security clearance and lack of staff.
Spain in particular, but also some German airports esp Frankfurt.
Never seen anything like that anywhere. In any Airport.
Not as bad as the Passengers at the Airport 🙄
What a chaos!
Yikes!! Nobody should be treated badly.. 😢
Its just the way the staff are being treated
What exactly is causing this? Is it Russia invading Ukraine? Genuinely curious..
Apparently, the numbers on the frontline out there are currently being reduced with reallocation and staff leaving and looks like there will be a delay in any further recruitment. It looks like it going to be a very difficult summer with a passengers numbers nearly back to pre covid but with less staff to handle them
The Panel is quite. Is it still going forward? Any thoughts?
1st of December got an email saying I'm got clearance. Employer Ref done too. I got another email this morning saying I been assigned as ico and D.O.J will contact me soon for arrangements but still no contract. I suppose I get to know when they contact.
Great News! When did you get it? Don't mind me asking. Cause I'm still expecting any information about Clearance. I passed the Interview, so I guess that would be the next step.
Finally got my extra clearance done and moved on to employment reference but still no sign of contract or training news.
I've heard rumours that a new batch of ICO's will be taken on from the panel just formed from recent interviews and trained in early spring.
Hey Everyone! Any good news to us all? Don't worry about the COVID-19 situation, I guess they still need New Batch of ICO. City centre today was packed with tourists. Imagine when things open back open again! They're just getting ready!
No worries! I hope they continue moving forward with this competition for the sake of all of us who's being going through this process for a long time now. Hopefully good news will come b4 Christmas.
Apologies, I was unaware! I assumed you were in the same boat as me. I'm waiting on an interview myself. So I'm of no help to you! Congrats on passing the interview, clearance is the last thing you're waiting for now! I hope you hear soon!
I'm asking, cause I had the interview couple of weeks agora and got back the week after saying "Congratulations, you got qualified for the position...". Since then, no more news. I hope they're still considering this competition.
Thanks for the info BTW.
I emailed on October 29th and they had reached OOM 282 at that stage and still going..
Hey Guys, will ICO competition for Dublin Airport still going forward? Too quiet. Does anyone has any info about this competition?
Generally the results will be sent out on the day of the last interview or on the Friday after the last interview. If its the current batch of interviews some were cancelled and moved to next week so until everyone is interviewed they can't form a panel.
I think the list has to be signed of by an A.Sec too.
I don't know. I think it can vary from one campaign to the next. For a different CO campaign in the civil service, I was waiting like 4 months for a result..
Can I ask what OOM are you out of curiosity? I'm waiting for an interview myself..
How long does it takes to get a reply from interview for an immigration control officer role.
That's a shame!! Normally you can depend on the union to fight your corner!
The union are a waste of space. Made a total mess of a long standing pay dispute recently. What should have been a fairly straightforward claim was royalty fucked up. Neither the interest or will to get it right.
