Hopes dashed 😁
Stephen Donnelly was clearly blindsided originally, but was then fully aware of the Shenanigans by Wednesday, let's not forget he made an eejit of himself on national radio already, on the matter .
You'd think he'd just shut up or at a minimum be extremely careful with any written replies to Dail Questions.
But no, he went head first into a Hole he Dug before the written reply.
There's also new reporting in the Irish Times, following on from a brutal article yesterday detailing the contempt shown towards Donnelly by everyone's favourite most senior civil Servant.
In essence, Watts it appears has known for 6 months of Tonys intentions to move to world academia. I said previously Holohan had essentially lost interest, wasn't particularly happy and has been relatively silent since December.
Siteserve anyone?
Of course not!! He's an ex-Fine Gael TD. They invented New Politics.
Leo asked him nicely to pay the expenses back but he ignored Leo and the taxpayer. Fine Gael cannot control their own elected members. FF cannot control public servants.
...
A letter printed in The Irish Times by Father Peter McVerry at the time...
The letter reads:
“I attended court with a young homeless boy who had been charged with theft of a bottle of orange, value €1.
“Another homeless man was charged with theft of four bars of chocolate, value €3.
“Another homeless man was charged with theft of two packets of Silk Cut cigarettes.
“A TD, on his way to, or from, his full-time, very well paid job in Brussels, stops by at Dáil Éireann to sign in, so that he can collect his full €51,600 expenses for his attendance in the Dáil.”
Leo did promise to overhaul the expense system which he said was lax and open to abuse (i.e. theft).
I am sure that expense reform is gathering pace! It will be shelved because as me know, reform is not required in local or national government.
I'd forgotten about that Contribution from Peter Mc Verry and it really puts into context the expenses debacle and indeed many other home truths.
Mc Verry also made a contribution to last Saturday with Katie Hannon show, generally discussion on Housing (lack of ) and rightly, the Ukrainian refugee crisis. (BEFORE THE KNEE JERK REACTIONS COMMENCE) I welcome any and all support but would like the hypocrisy to end , every refugee should be treated equally.
So Peter asked is opinion on the Government's Housing policy generally to include all the governments recent promises, his response, !!
"Not a Hope in Hell is it achievable " , he's a man who should know.
I was wrong , Colm brohy is on Saturday with (Lord PBH) and looking daper but typically fudging.
Fairly inevitable it would end this way.
Holohan will not be taking up the position with TCD instead he will be leaving the public service.
It must be noted the attempt to turn the narrative. Holohan is lamenting the merit of him joining TCD, ignoring the actual issues of how it came about and the tax payer paying two CMO salaries.
Also 'he decided'. Hands off the wheel government from beginning to end.
Nothing will happen Watt and this will be free to happen when the public isn't watching. Incompetence favouring cronyism.
True to form, nurses and midwives excluded from NPHET lite.
RTE news : 'Exclusion' from Covid advisory group a mistake - INMO
They really are not counted or taken seriously. But they'll be applauding them next outbreak.
Does this mean we will not see the Watt report on Monday? Just like the Zappone cronyism, once caught they hide the evidence (e.g. Simon's phone hacking 😂)
He was an awful dose. Refusing to answer questions and getting aggressive.
Well that's a development, it was never going to end well if this farce was permitted to continue.
There's just something about him , arrogant, Petulant , I was watching it on news now and there was serious friction between him and Lord PBH 😏
Well said, this entire debacle truly Vomit inducing.
Why should they be in the group?
A union official will bring nothing to that discussion, only belligerence and incompetence.
Not a good day for public health research.
Holohan will be offered big money in the private sector and expertise will be lost to the state.
They are also nurses Blanch. Yes, pesky useless nurses who want an easy life and soft work conditions. Those ones.
Yes Blanch, a bad day for the culture of Cronyism that FG have been fostering since 2011. I can understand that you are upset.
Lack of nursing rep on new public health body a mistake (inmo.ie)
Commenting on the establishment of the COVID-19 Advisory Group, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has said it is a mistake for Government to exclude a nursing and midwifery representative on the new COVID body.
INMO Deputy General Secretary Edward Mathews said:
“It is particularly disappointing that there is no nursing or midwifery representative on the new COVID-19 Advisory Group.
“Nurses have been sounding the alarm of what exactly it is like to work in overcrowded hospitals while dealing with a highly transmissible virus for months now.
“Excluding nursing and midwifery from a panel that will advise government going forward shows a distant and unrealistic approach to the pandemic which actually ignores the reality of the situation in the health services.
“Theoretical, research, and on the ground perspectives are essential and underrepresented in the membership of this new body - and will ensure a particular, but not particularly accurate picture as time moves forward.
“The total exclusion of the voice of the largest group of health professionals is a mistake.”
Great Day for Transparency.
Sure Tony's now free to apply for a Job at no cost to the taxpayer, the world's his Oyster.
Besides if Trinity are so interested in public health research, I'm sure they'd be delighted to offer Tony a position but of course there's that liitle matter of Salary, they might have to raid their piggy bank 🐖🐽
Traumatic day for some 🙂
The people caught red handed here couldn't even stand over this and it is a 'bad day for the state'.
Never heard such bitter arrogant nonsense.
I reckon Trinity were about to pull the plug on this charade. Yet again Watt will continue as is.
Just looking at some of the glowing Tributes but this is an excellent opinion piece , puts a lot of this disgraceful Shenanigans into context.
Watt should still produce the report. It was a fait accompli until the taxpayers found out. We deserve answers.
The chancer should also clarify if he is waiving his 81,000 payrise.
Civil servant Robert Watt refuses to answer if he has now accepted previously waived €81,000 pay rise - Independent.ie
He faced criticism for receiving a pay increase of €81,000 after he switched from his role as a secretary general at the department of public expenditure and reform to the department of health, to total €292,000.
However, he later said in a statement that he would waive the pay increase until the economy begins to recover from the effects of the pandemic.
His salary increase was branded as "ad hoc" by the Oireachtas Finance committee.
Hasn't he already taken that extra few bob 🤔
Why watt even involved in preparing the report is baffling, this required an independent review and Watt questioned.
But I think we know we're this is going, nothing to see here anymore, move on and Watt will Continue to say and do as he pleases.
Because they represent the people carry most of the weight. Your hate for unions aside, (unless LV is leaking to them) they represent frontline workers who know better than most whats happening.
Here, look at watt and Donnelly for your belligerence and incompetence.
Has broken record ran for cover?
Yes, they should have been honest and transparent about the process and not tried to ride the tax payer. All on them.
Were they really going to hire a new CMO on a temporary contract since presumably if Tony was only on secondment, he could return to his position.
Maybe he could have made a valuable contribution in Trinity but public jobs need to be accountable and transparent.
Disaster to lose him.
