Someone on YouTube of all places made an interesting observation about the potential arc for Pike: this is a Prequel where its main character knows he's in a prequel - without it being a "meta" thing). Could make for an interesting angle if played well; would Pike take more risks with himself, knowing he's not going to die Today? In turn would it effect his ability to captain a crew, whose fates are less certain?
It wasn't hovering in Tommorow is Yesterday it was in the atmosphere climbing out IIRC.
Love the music in that trailer, from 15 seconds onwards. Sounds pretty great, and wonder if its trailer music or will be used.
Really looking forward to this.
Will he finally think to learn Morse code so he doesn't have to rely on 1 for yes 2 for no.
Or get Starfleet engineering on to designing a less sht wheelchair.
I must rewatch Season 2 of Discovery for the Enterprise-related characters (And how sad is that? That this is the reason I'd rewatch Discovery).
Could you not just see them bits on you tube?
I went to look and got caught up watching something else lol.
Could watch the shorts that featured the Strange New Worlds crew as well.
Though looking at the descriptions on wikipedia, the third one has a crew member that doesn't seem to be in the series even though it's pretty much her intro to the crew.
Recent posters for the show have revealed Spock is finally getting a canonical first name...
S’chn T’Gain Spock, which is taken from an old 80s spin off novel.
Controversial?
If it's something that got the go ahead from Rodenberry then let them go for it. He'll still be referred to as "Mr. Spock" most of the time I'm sure.
I object on the grounds I dont speak Vulcan and dunno how to pronounce the names!
But Spock is his first name. Otherwise his whole family would be Spocks surely.
Have we ever heard more than one name for a Vulcan ?
In China IIRC, the family name comes first so presumably this follows the same format; S’chn T’Gain being the surname here?
My brain wants to say "Shin Teh-Gain".
Thats a better stab than I would have made of it.
Bajoran names were like that iirc
Major Kira Nerys but Kira was family name and Nerys first / personal name.
Ya that makes more sense. So we get S’chn T’Gain Sarek and S’chn T’Gain Sybok and S’chn T’Gain Michael. And got knows how many other kinds the Vulcan Boris Johnson has mentioned yet.
Then he would be addressed as Commander S’chn T’Gain or Mister S’chn T’Gain, Kirk isn't addressed as Captain Jim.
Not until now

Major Kira and Ensign Ro
Yes they're both addressed by their rank and family name. My point was that if S’chn T’Gain is the family name, as Pixel suggested, everyone has been calling him by his rank and personal name, something Ro called out as not being done in her first appearance. The whole thing is a bit convoluted, Spock said in an episode that he had (an) other name(s) that weren't pronounceable but it can't be a personal name or family name given that both his parents and subordinates call him Spock. I could understand Sarek being impersonal with Spock but not Amanda.
Since Dr. Noonian Soong (Data's Daddy and Augments) and Khan Noonien Singh (Khhaaaaaaaaaan) are related... Does this mean we're going to get Archers Soong on the new show? Since there's a family relative or they going down the Khan route?
Are Singh and Soong related?
1) not direct family tree, but that Soongs research not eventually lead to to Singh?
2) I'm thinking Kurtzman could make some silly family tree to it. Since Augments cannot legally join Starfleet. How else could she join?
3) was Arik Soong not continuing the work of Adam Soong?
It just baffles me why this writing team need to be so needlessly fking around with stuff. I mean who ever put any thought into Spock's name.
It's almost as bad as Han Solo's name reveal. Just why bother doing it
Just showing that other cultures may use different naming conventions
IDIC and all that
The least they could have done was rip off something actually alien seeming like the Chiss naming convention from Star Wars.

It can't be any sillier than Reacher, where everyone - including his brother and parents - called the titular character Jack Reacher simply, "Reacher". Whatever about new acquaintances, whose family would call you by the collective surname?
When my oldest sister was in her early to mid teens she went through a phase of calling me by our last name. I think it might have been bleed through from her calling her male friends by their last names too so it can happen but it's still weird.
Turns out the names on the posters were a "mistake." There's an update at the top of the article now.

Sometimes when you work at warp speed, mistakes are made.
See ref. Disco S01, S02, S03, S04.
While Spock and M’Benga do indeed have first names, they have yet to be revealed.
So sounds like they do have "first" names and, well, I guess they were just revealed. I'm guessing Spock new name is the family name though. Has to be, really. Probably is his feckin first name though, so they can start having new "Mr. Spock" characters in other timelines. Sarak Spock, Sybok Spock, S’chn T’Gai Spock... but everyone including his own parents and siblings call him "Spock" on account of he joined Star Fleet and humans didn't like S'chn T'Gai.
Who the **** thought we were all sitting here for 50 years just wracking our brains for this mystery to be solved anyway? Never once have I ever considered that any Vulcan needed another name.
Was that backing up the point or arguing it ?
Neither I meant to follow that with it being an example showing that not all races need stick to human naming convention
