This is absolutely nuts.. brilliant job by the Sky reporter
Ukraine War: Full Sky News interview with Vladimir Putin's spokesman
Offcourse you can its just a matter of finding the right spot i a forrest
There are many ways of camoflaging your vehicles
You use the landscape to your advantage, first thing you learn in the army
And its even more important these days with surveillance drones flying over you constantly.
There is even camonets to avoid Thermal and IR detection
If you ever watched western countries in excersises they are all camoflaged,be it Artillery or SAM positions.
To be fair his argument seems to be that they should be supplied alongside and/or as part of a wider agreement with other members of the EU/NATO:
A decision on the matter was initially expected this week. But it’s now in limbo as the Social Democrat chancellor — much to the frustration of his governing coalition partners — argues Germany should first reach a common position with Western allies on the subject before delivering such heavy military equipment, the officials said.
Which on the surface seems reasonable; but it also begs the question why the EU and NATO can't sort themselves out and at least agree in principle to supply these "heavier weapons". But we can at least hope that the inventories involved are being processed in advance of the political decisions to move them.
The other aspect is that the vehicles and weapon systems being mentioned will require significant amounts of training; and in many cases it seems like they'll require a certain amount of preparatory work to get them ready for use. These are the particular systems Ukraine has asked Germany for according to Politico:
Note that the only vehicle which Germany seems to be close to approving is the Marder IFV; of which they have approximately 100 in storage which could be refurbished and sent to Ukraine. It's not clear what kind of time frames would be involved but these seem to be aimed at a longer term (months and years) conflict in Ukraine.
My understanding is that it is standard conventional military doctrine to deploy artillery and SAM sites in wide open spaces. There are a bunch of other reasons for this on top of those I mentioned but here is a relatively recent example (2019) of a NATO artillery training exercise:
In any case both Ukraine and Russia also operate similarly; apart from sometimes setting up batteries in between buildings in suburban areas but that wouldn't be considered standard military doctrine. We're also getting a bit off-topic; might be worth you starting a thread in the Military forum to discuss it in more depth.
And Merkel still refuses to condemn the invasion.
Berlin must be forced to stop talking Pro Ukraine but acting Pro Putin.
Unless the rest of Europe puts pressure on them they will continue to undermine the response to the invasion.
Well compared with 2021 the EU is importing less gas from Russia in general; but this was even before the war began (https://www.bruegel.org/publications/datasets/european-natural-gas-imports/):
Although I wouldn't be overly surprised to see higher inflows from Russia to try and exhaust contracts or increase the amount in storage for the short term.
True the Irish government has foreign obligations for which our embassies are key towards fulfilling. Having said that we do not have embassies in every country and we have a very small presence in Russia even prior to their invasion and disgusting behaviour in Ukraine. I doubt it will happen anyway but I certainly would have no problem with Ireland and other EU countries getting together and having just one combined embassy in Russia and then closing down the Russian embassy in Dublin or at the very least reducing it to the very bare minimum of staff so we can cut down on the spying operations they run there.
An example I use is Hong Kong. Til 97 they had democracy and their own identity. The Brits pussied out completely and left them to it.
I'd just like to take issue with you a bit over this. My understanding is that Britain had leased the use of Hong Kong from the Chinese and was expected to 'vacate the premises' when that lease was up. I have no love for the Chinese authorities in either their word or deed, but the British not giving back Hong Kong would have effectively been an invasion of another country's sovereign territory, which is what we're all so rightfully indignant at Russia about. Whether more could have or should have been done by the British for the people living in Hong Kong at the time is a different can of worms.
Because she's already done so!
Kind of correct. They had Hong Kong Island itself in perpetuity and could have legally hung onto it as long as they could have defended it. The New Territories were under lease, which were expiring prompting the handover.
What you are showing is rocket artilley, not standard 152 mm howitzers thats mainly used.
Unless you want a forrest fire thats pretty obvious, and they usually also have alot longer range
Nato uses 155 howitzers as standard, and the MLRS systems are mobile, meaning shoot and scoot.
But anyway yes a bit off topic
In late 2021, the International Energy Agency reported that Russia had reduced its piped gas supplies to the EU market with pipeline deliveries from Russia’s state-owned gas company, Gazprom, sending about 25% less gas than usual to Europe despite a surge in demand.
So it wasn't that Europe was importing less gas from Russia, Russia was deliberately limiting gas supplies to Europe.
Some analysts believe that this was a deliberate move to hold Europe to ransom in advance of its invasion of Ukraine and is a good indication as to just how long Russia was preparing the ground for the Invasion of Ukraine in February 2022
RT News running adds selling Z merchandise, hoodies and t-shirts.
This Irish lad is one of it's main anchors.
If someone on social media could spam his accounts and call him a Cúnt from me I'd appreciate it.
Not the first time Russia have shut off gas to their customers in Europe, its been used as blackmail on several occations against their neigbours as well, and one of the reasons why many is seeking deals with EU instead or becoming EU members.
And also the reason why many is going for NATO membership, because this will obvioulsy escalate when these countries starts to protest and fight back.
...
Ah yeah, they were a bit stuck but they left the people behind to fend for themselves. The tactics China used are (hopefully) instructive in that they are happy to play the long game. There's always been **** going on but they seemed to wait about 15 years before really cracking down and the last 5-10 have solidified things. When they look at Taiwan they're in absolutely no hurry. If it takes another 50 years but they get a thriving region with foreign money flowing through that's better than getting it in 10 years having bombed the **** out of it.
Here's the first row of Google image search results for his name. Weird.
The leftmost image has a FB page showing he's from Crossmaglen and lives in Russia. Page is locked so no comments/messages/whatever
Fair few lawless cowboys up that way, bandit country.
That reminds me, has anyone heard from Bryan MacDonald lately? No twitter activity since Feb 24th, when he admitted to getting it wrong
I am old enough to live through Solidarity era, strikes and all these changes in Poland. And even 30-40 years after that I never trust that my phone call is not listened to or recorded. Secret forces are the essence of any totalitarian regime. And they are huge. I think in Russia it must be ingrained in them as it is still in me, that your call might be recorded. That's why they are so cautious answering any calls from strangers or any interviews on the street.
Yeah "My enemy's enemy is my friend" might help explain his career path...
Sweet Jaysus, I looked at a comment thread on RT for the first time ever.
Exclaimer: I havent watched the video yet, Im going by your assessment.
I think yes now we are sleeping but I dont think its fair to judge on the thinking 8 years ago. I wouldnt call it sleeping back then. It just isnt the same thing. And there would have been as many good reasons back then (not just selfish ones) to not escalate things as there were bad.
The EU model, not to mention the model of globalisation in general has clearly proved that having countries economically dependent on each other is a good thing, not a bad thing. Diplomacy and keeping an open line has also proven to be effective. I am not sure how far more EU could/should have taken things at the time.
The RCB cuts interest rates by 3% today and looks increasingly likely other commodities will be required to be paid in Roubles.
What a scumbags! They are sending bombs with a caption "For children" (за детей).
Yeah they've moved into the Nazi part of the spectrum where you have to think "Surely they know they're the bad guys!".
You would have to wonder if it was Russia has money behind the trend of calling everyone a Nazi over the last 5 to 10 years.
