It's extraordinary, curious also, everyone treading very carefully and complimenting Tony and wishing him welll and seem to be forgetting the Position was in essence made up with one candidate in mind (Him), is it evenly slightly believable that Trinity just had a eureka moment about a new post and thought maybe Tony might be interested. He, and He alone was "Interviewed" for this position.
I'd like to know who came up with earth shatteringly exciting new post we are all supposed to feel lucky about.
Tony was done, had no support in government, had nothing to say for months and I've no doubt he was unhappy, he wanted out with salary and pension maintained and someone (yet to be determined) came up with this nonsense and I suspect he had a part to play. Watt also has questions that need answering, he's a loose Cannon that says and does as he pleases, Donnelly seems terrified of him.
You should learn from blanch and marko and duck for cover!
I love the attempts to excuse this. Priceless.
They'd sell their own granny rather than admit a wrongdoing! 😂
'Wow just wow' my arse.
You are attempting to make the discussion about upskilling in general. It is not.
You brought in on the job upskilling into a conversation about the former CMO being gifted a job he's not qualified for. Upskilling is learning as you go to improve your prospects. Holohan has the professorship. What in gods name are you on about?
If you want to speak generally about upskilling maybe find an employment forum?
The fact you made reference to Supermacs says it all, as if you should be looking down on a Supermac worker.
You will find nearly every MNC in Ireland use this technique to hire especially with the skills shortage.
Every person that I know spends significant time up-skilling every year and most companies will push for a weekly period to put in additional training, learn new skills.
Nor should you need to upskill for a job you already have. Wow....just WOW
The "conversation" is the usual few posters, outraged and upset about the government. It's nothing new so leave you to the outrage.
Supermac Burgers have a texture and taste of something that was actually mopped off the floor 😁
The conversation is the CMO being gifted a professorship, he's not qualified for, while still collecting his CMO salary. Not the fella in Supermacs upskilling from mopping to flipping burgers.
P.s. you can't on the job upskill to an academic position. There's exams, getting papers published and the like. Nor should you need to upskill for a job you already have.
I am trying to explain to you how people are hired across industries now. Sorry if you don't understand.
P.S. I think you will find most people never stop up-skilling.
LOL, passport for kids taking to long, how about the parents. Coveney has been denying any delays at the passport office for over a year and yet an almost weekly article about the shambles at his own department.
I was actually surprised by Leo's performance today, not his usual arrogant, smug self, the Holohan story as blind sided the lot of them, they've actually no response or explanation, I thought the "Minister for public expenditure not happy" deflection extraordinary. And now Academics in Trinity furious.
A notion Tony was being moved quietly has ended.
LV is on a nostalgia trip. Complaining about the mechanics of the state as if he's nothing to do with any of it. Just like when he was coming up.
Was on about passports for kids taking too long earlier. Waste of a suit.
You can't on the job upskill to a professorship at Trinity :)
Especially after being hired already, as a professor at Trinity.
Some apologetic gymnastics afoot.
What are you waffling about now?
A wink, Nod and spot of Shenanigans, so to speak.
Leo looked exasperated over this debacle in the Dail earlier, I almost felt sorry for him (about a second), seems Michael Mc Grath not at all happy 🙄, I suspect like Leo it's more they are embarrassed.
Is that an official excuse or your own?
Just incredible how the Examiner constantly get these comments but never have a name.
In terms of hiring people, most companies have moved on from just hiring people who have a degree. A number of years ago they now look for a skill set and then can train people up. My company moved to this process years ago, so have most others.
Surprised you know nothing about it? strange so many people on here have never heard about it.

Why shoot the messenger when the comment is fully credible?
How does somebody without the credentials get a job like that?
I find it amazing that the examiner continues to get all these great comments....maybe someday they might actually have a name behind the comments. That always seems to elude them
On Paper , Ronan Glynn has more qualifications, actually impressive educational achievements
Its his "reward". Or gift bag, whichever.
That article can't be correct. Blanch has already pointed out that Holohan is the best person for that job.
Meanwhile, academics at TCD have said the appointment is “a shock and a departure from longstanding convention”.
Regardless of his merits,” said one source, “Dr Holohan wouldn't even be shortlisted for the most junior academic role. He doesn't have a Phd, and despite lacking even the basic credentials, he's been given a full professor's role.
Oh dear, a dirty stroke there by FG.
Sources confirmed that a message from Seanad leader Regina Doherty was read in her absence, which said it was not credible that the Taoiseach was not made aware of the appointment or his approval sought.
Regina is always used as a messenger when the FG Ministers/TDs are too scared to say it. But she wasn't even at the meeting so had to send a written message! Very interesting. The game is afoot.
Looks like there are even more questions about Dr Holahans new role at TCD. This time his academic credentials for the role seemingly TCD academic staff are not to impressed.
Still though nothing to see here, mountain out of a molehill. 😀
I doubt that 😂
It is all true.
Got a giggle out of this headline on this article 🤣
If I had a euro for every post on here critical of the government that started with the words "If true" and turned out to be untrue, I would be a very rich man.
The coalition of cronies will give us the 'lessons learned', which is code for you caught us but there'll be no consequences.
They'll begrudge frontline student nurses during the height of covid getting a few bob but hand wave away paying two CMO salaries.
I can see former Goldman Sachs head, husband of JCMcN getting some sort of tax payer funded gig since he lost his seanad bid.
Of course I'm only surmising so to speak but you got to wonder.
A Makey Uppy position in a private Institution, bad for by the Tax Payer.
A secondment by its definition, Temporary
No one admitting to actually signing off on this (maybe that just a Department of Health thing.
From the Taoiseach down, not aware of or at least understand how this arrangement was formulated
Various "Government Ministers and TDS seeking clarification
I've watched the CMO's performance carefully over the past two years, commended him on occasions, Question some decisions occasionally.
If you look at the time line from the last "Blind siding " as Government like to call it, Holohan has in essence been on leave of absence , barely a peep out of him in months and now this curious little arrangement 👀👀👀👀
If true, this has a bigger stench of it than Zappone.
Tony has spoken "Privately of Course"
My take on this debacle is he was being pushed , silenced and a way out was needed, someone came up with this Turd of an arrangement and someone signed off on it 🤔
Stephen Donnelly was not informed that Holohan was taking a secondment funded by the Health department until 2 days ago. He believed that Holohan was retiring from the public service and taking up the Trinity academic role on a full-time basis. He was not informed until this week that Dr Holohan’s salary would be paid for by the Department of Health rather than Trinity.
Mr McGrath and Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe both confirmed on Thursday that they only found out about the arrangement on Tuesday morning when it appeared in the media. Mr McGrath said that the situation ‘could have been handled better’ and that when it was announced that Dr Holohan was leaving the Department of Health, it was assumed that it was a ‘permanent move’.
He said that while there may be exceptions, the general principle is that the host body pays the person’s salary. There needs to be, he said, a proper explanation and rationale provided on why this is not the case.
Mr McGrath said that he will ‘be engaging with the Department of Health on some of the questions that arise from that.’ He added: ‘There are some unusual characteristics to the Holohan secondment in relation to the open-ended nature. It would normally be the case that the host body that was receiving the services of a person who was seconded would pay the salary.’
