Gone already
Not surprising really. Looked smart in black with those alloys and tints
Howya lads. The woegious THP engine in my car has **** the bed, so I'm in the market for a beautiful banger that can get me from Dublin to Sligo and back, once a week for the foreseeable. A friend says you kind souls may be the lads to provide some advice. I've had good times with early 00s Celicas and Kompressor Mercs before, but I'd be afraid of cars that may have been abused so thinking of something more grown up - it won't let me post a link, but there's an A6 3.0TDI on Donedeal with a fresh NCT for 2 grand.
Haven't talked to the advertiser yet, but wanted your read on this kinda thing. Cheers.
This one? Looks nice to be fair.. Sensible miles, new nct. Something like a 1.9tdi Octavia or Passat would probably be a safer bet with cheaper maintenance and repairs but obviously the A6 is much better suited for Dublin to Sligo. You’d want to make sure everything is working as it should and take a long test drive, put the engine and gearbox through its paces.
I’d imagine the 3 litre would put most people off which isn’t a bad thing for negotiating
Good point, tax at €1494 and MPG i wound offer him €500😊
Yeah I thought the 3 litre would make it easier to haggle. I'm no mechanic, but I'll see if there's any history on the car and bring it for a long run.
Holy Jaysus, I hadn't looked at the MPG. I didn't think diesels could burn that much.
So many nice cars there which are rusting due that ridiculous tax bands. Have my eye nice Bmw with 2.5L engine.... So tempted but im not sure can I justify purchase with 1500€ thrown out the window every year.
A bangernomics favourite with NCT til January 2023, €1250. Comfortable, reliable, cheap.
Would the nearly quarter of a mill mileage be any worry?
The ad says "fully serviced".
If it has a full stamped dealer service record the mileage would be less of a worry.
Says an average of 23.8 mpg in that. Either it's a short run that he floored it on or else it's got an issue. I used to get near 40mpg mixed driving in a Passat from the same year and engine/box. 45 mpg taking it easyish on a long run.
Worth a call either way.
Can’t remember what that symbol before the MPG means, but 23.8mpg since start or since refuel or short term average would be normal enough
You don't see many of these around anymore; I suppose if you were stuck for something it would do the job for €500 with 6 months test remaining (and a bit of tax)
I know that this car is going for 2,750 but I wanted to plug it here. We bought the same car a few years back and its an absolute peach of a car for the money. Reliability is superb at 96K miles. Zero issues since 2018 (when we bought) except for battery replacement (very easy DIY) in 2020 (2009 model). For an MPV, the handling is excellent. There seems to be a trend with ford and their motorsport heritage even in this car. Heel and toe is doable and it can be chucked into a corner without too many scares. The 1.8 na engine seems to have very low resonances below 3k, so for modest driving it almost feels like a 6 cylinder. Above 3K, theres no real poke and it all gets a bit rattely but for modest driving it pulls well.
Only real issue with it is how the underside looks for rust in the back axle area. Id recommend proactive treatment. Wind up windows in the back for us is a slight pain also.
Id recommend this car for bangernomics driving if you have 2 young sprogs.
This is a bargain; NCT til 5/23 and even a few days tax left. €999
Just to give my favourite thread a boost. Kerry 'rolla with 6 months NCT. €1,495 with some room for negotation I'd say.
T.
08 Focus with cheap tax and 12 months NCT. Bodywork is rough tho. Asking €1,750.
Cars still seem over priced, fair few marks on that one too.
Are these civics any good?
My bangernomics 04 Corolla might be coming to the end of its days after 4 years so I'm keeping an eye out for something to replace it - ideally something that causes as little bother as the corolla has

Can't go wrong with one of them; in fact I can't think of something else that would a better job of providing reliable, cheap bangernomics transport.
Tax is a killer and they're thirsty enough especially if it's a town hopper.
Considering a late MK1 Yaris for a family member. Do they still make good bangernomics sense in the small car segment or should we be looking elsewhere these days?
Yaris is still a good shout if insurance plays ball
12k miler with fresh test til 2023. Is it worth €1250?
Looks very clean. Nice one to put away if you had the room.
Thanks. Think insurance is ok. Currently insured on a 05 1.4 car. Unfortunately not in great shape now. They had a Yaris previously and it was reliable. Budget around the 2k mark.
Not many bargains around these days but I guess this is relatively good value in today's market if you need to carry a big dog or two around as well as being fairly stylish:
Did you notice the reg? Nice touch.
