You would agree that zero Ukrainians should be housed by the government in either existing social housing or private housing where they compete with the market?
Please provide stats to back that up
I think temporary accommodation for now it's fine, it's not a long term solution, hopefully it won't need to be.
Well now, in the same way that you cannot provide stats to your statement that everyone on social welfare has had a job, I cannot provide stats to say that a lot of people on social welfare have never worked.
but I think it's fair to say that there is a percentage of our population who have never worked and paid taxes or contributed to society, they exist in all countries.
I agree, it's about giving them refuge now and removing them from an awful situation.
If it becomes permanent, then they should be treated same as everyone else (would love to change for social housing was awarded myself, but another thread 😂)
Is there though, or rather, will there be in a few years? I’m in my early 40s and have worked continuously for 20 years now paying taxes...when I get to retirement age there is no guarantee of a state pension for me, or if there is, it’ll be pushed out to the age of 85 or something ridiculous like that.
Why will we be unable to afford to pay elderly people who worked all their life a pension - something which old people were always guaranteed - but we can afford all sorts for migrants and bogus asylum seekers - housing, healthcare, legal costs, unemployment benefits, etc?
Surely if there was plenty of money to go around, we wouldn’t have to be stopping the state pension on people who are no longer physically able to work.
its the same as someone said on the last page, don’t bother moaning that there’s no availability of healthcare left for us commoners, you see it’s actually our own fault for not having private healthcare, and therefore paying for it 2 times over. We’re the ones in the wrong
you should be paying for the foreigners pensions while saving for your own, it’s silly of you not to, this is the logic these types have,
what they fail to realise is normal people haven’t the money for these things. We’ve been stretched too far at this point, the only way I’d be able to justify handing over money for medical care at the minute is if I’d had my arm etc chopped off,
Your reply still does not answer the question asked are more Irish on the dole that never had job than migrants . I have never met any . I have encountered migrants who came and worked a few years then went on the dole even brought elderly parents here and got them pensions . . The majority of Ukrainians coming are women ,children and pensioners so they won’t be working .
The post was about migrants being able work as barristers . Bubblypop seemed to be an expert on the subject but lacked a precise answer then bubbles always burst .
So, there will be no pension in 20 years no? Where did you get that information?
Well the government are not going to come out and say it as they only care about what happens during their term and it would be political suicide if they announced it as fact, but we are certainly being warned to prepare ourselves for retirement and not to be relying on the state pension. I don’t think anyone expects it to exist in it’s current form in 30 years time and that’s down purely to us not being able to afford it.
Ireland has one of the fastest ageing populations in Europe. Pensions are not prefunded, we are currently paying the pensions for our retired population through our prsi system. birthrates are down.
So, when the elderly population increases massively in the coming years, we may have issues with pensions, but it won't be anything to do with foreigners currently in DP etc.
If we can't afford it in years to come it will be because the prsi income won't be enough.
A two year diploma in legal studies is sufficient to sit the entrance exam for the one year barrister course at the Kings Inn.
That’s it, the likes of you and me are treated like dirt at a time when we’re needed more than ever, I work in houses all the time that I know I could never afford to rent never mind own. But yet months after they’re finished the only people I see walking in and out of these estates are foreign nationals. The money pot will eventually run out and the likes of me and you will be long gone and they’ll be left with an army of deliveroo drivers to fix it, good luck to them. Like I said half the people I know who work in trades planning on leaving asap if they’re not already gone, im not struggling through life to fund more places like MacUlliam in Tallaght, it’s utter madness
That’s it exactly, walk on to any building site in the country and the amount of people you’d have agree with this nonsense you’d count on one hand, I’m from Dublin 12 and anyone I know has had enough, the amount of people I grew up with who have their own accommodation I can also count on one hand, it’s not right and it will all boil over soon enough, we can see it, our parents can see it, and if my grandparents could see it they’d be spinning in their graves
Birth rates are not down because Irish people are working to pay HAP for other nationalities. More ridiculous manic posting.
I'm just wondering, is it just foreigners you have an issue with? Or how do you feel about Irish people receiving HAP?
Why can’t people like you understand that the Irish people on HAP are our own problem, it doesn’t mean we should import the 3rd world and start paying for them too, especially while the people paying for it aren’t set up to,
how can you possibly read the example that was typed out above and think it’s right, the only Irish people having a few kids are our own wasters. Anyone like myself knows a kid is completely out of the question, it would only hamper my chances of a mortgage more,
They are down due to an extortionate tax rate, for which ordinary people get very little in return.
Now I in no way blame foreigners etc for it. The governments endless money pit approach to own door accommodation and the Ukraine situation is just a very visible symptom of a feckless attitude to tax payers money. With the easy option constantly taken in place of hard decisions.
The cost of living, tax and situation young couples find themselves in is stopping people having second, third kids and absolutely nothing is being done to help them
What are you talking about, 85, jesus wept lol.
There will be a state pension, that's not going to change. What will change is how far it will go in terms of cost of living. This is why consecutive govts, for the last 20 years, have been making it more and more attractive for people to set up personal pensions
Oh look, another brand new account with xenophobic views, haven't seen this recently 🙄
The majority of Ukrainians coming are women ,children and pensioners so they won’t be working .
I'm genuinely curious to see stats on the folks coming, can you share your source?
People like me?
I think having anyone on HAP is an issue, one that government need to do something about.
Well yeah, that's due to changing demographics and improving health
This means, as percentages, lower numbers paying taxes versus higher numbers receiving pension and receiving those pensions for a lot longer.
Only someone who has never been too SA would try to claim its stable, its anything but.
Ah hello rereg, I knew your posts sounds familiar!
I personally don't agree that it is acceptable for couples to commit fraud in order to take money they are not entitled to. No matter what nationality they are.
I don't think there is anything wrong with subletting? I'm sure plenty of people do it.
I agree. Government's have squandered money for years and continue to do so.
Birth rates are down because Irish people are working all week to pay HAP tenancies for Roma and former asylum seekers,
Roflmao 😂🤣😅😂🤣😅😂🤣😅
Ah jaysus, thanks, seriously, thanks for that, I needed a good laugh
Funniest thing I think I've ever read on Boards.ie haha
Ukraine is third world? Do they know about this?
With 15 posts and an inability to quote correctly lol
U
