Do they have saboteurs in their mist...
Pretty worrying if Russia staged this to justify some new line of attack in Ukraine. Cos they've already done some pretty bad stuff without such 'justification'...
Seems Germany has oked the sale of 56 IFVs to ukraine ,but these are essentially antiques from east Germany , which were sold to Sweden and then bought by a private company in the Czech republic who are now selling them to Ukraine the pbv 501 tank is better known as the BMP 1 in Russia
OK - now im intrigued
So assuming this is official and genuine (not implying anything btw)
Then what options remain
I cant think of any other options??
I think they are going with plausible deniability .
56 BMP-1s won't really make any sort of difference but better to have them than not, and they're already trained on them.
They are upgraded versions at least. The optics are more important than 50 BMP-1's could ever be really.
Don't see why the Ukes wouldn't just claim it if it was them. Seems a legit act of war in the citcumstances, displaying audacity, ingenuity, tech mastery etc.
Keep the enemy guessing. They're far more intelligent in all regards frankly.
Putin will be looking for gaps in his military. Confusion.
There was someone on thread earlier saying at least the Russians didn't dig pits and put bullets in people like Kosovo ...
Not for the faint hearted.
Death and destruction.
yea thats possible - creates some discord - create some paranoia too
Oh right Like the guy in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy says
Never mind what for! To muddy the water, that’s what for! Spread a whole lot of damn nonsense to get us chasing our tails!
This story is fascinating to me, could this be true? A 30 strong team bringing the Russian convoy to a halt?
But the Ukranian's shot (allegedly) some Russian murdering so and so's in the leg
I hope the rest of the world don't just welcome Russia back once all this over and stay a pariah for decades to come unless there is fundamental change in the society and leadership at the top
And the more Ukraine strikes back in Russian territory the better - they are at war and that shouldn't be limited to actions only on Ukraine soil
looks like more help is on the way from western countries to Ukraine
UK ministry of defence conference with 35 nations yesterdayThe conference brought together over 35 international partners to discuss the latest situation in Ukraine and the country’s most pressing requirements for lethal and non-lethal military aid.
The international community has committed to widening its package of military support for Ukraine and explored new ways of sustaining the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the longer term, including the provision of increasingly capable air and coastal defence systems, artillery and counter battery capabilities, armoured vehicles and protected mobility, as well as wider training and logistical support.
And this also includes more loitering kamikaze drones similar to the US switchblade
What NATO really needs to provide is air defence. There are S-300 systems in Slovakia, Bulgaria, and Greece. Why is it taking so long to have these transferred to Ukraine?
Similar scenes filmed in Irpen today. We're talking major war crimes by that hideous regime.
yeah and its his desperation to show some kind of a win that makes him even more dangerous. I wonder might he use a tactical nuclear weapon on one of the smaller cities as a show of power. He can say the oil depot bombing was an attack on Russian soil and thats his red line. Or as others have mentioned he doesnt want to flatten Kyiv but he could use a chemical weapon to cause thousands of civilian deaths in one go and force Ukraines hand at the negotiating table that way.
It feels like we're at a precipice now as Putin realises he cant win a ground war. What is worrying too is the current stated Russian military doctrine on the use of tactical nukes is to escalate to de-escalate. In their doctrine they outline the circumstances where they can or would use tactical nukes and one of those circumstances is an attack on Russian soil with non nuclear weapons. Their doctrine states if that event happens it then triggers them to use tactical nuclear weapons in response.
Obviously because if they take it from their own defence they need to be replaced with something else, thats my guess
Speaking as someone coming from many generations of Jackeens going back to the egg, for a nice if confusing change it doesn't pain me to say this; fair feckin' play to the Cork Langers! 👍️🙂
***Normal Service Will Return***😁
The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, is in Kyiv this evening and has met Zelensky - fair play to her.
Oh that's nice, a pretext to nuke kyiv. Vlads been looking everywhere for one of those; amazingly convenient we don't have any troops near there anymore. Couldn't have turned out better if we had planned it.
Gotta say that's a good firm handshake from both sides
Yeah I find the lack of will to provide decent air defences to be the most upsetting. Even the old ‘but the Ukrainians don’t know how to use them’ excuse is getting a bit old as we approach week 6.
I think a change in Russian leadership is the best we can hope for right now. A more pragmatic leadership willing to work within the constraints of where Russia sits in the current world order, which is certainly not high enough that they can invade a large European country like Ukraine and just get away with it. Changing Russian society as a whole would be a lot more difficult, I have to think, because cultural values are deeply ingrained.
As for striking within Russia, yeah I have no big problem with that idea so long as it's military targets - airstrips, fuel depots, barracks and so on. Hitting urban centres as the Russians have been doing is just going to suddenly give all those conscripts a little more motivation to really fight. So far, Ukraine have been boxing clever while the Russians have been boxing angry. I think boxing clever is an all around better way of winning a fight.
4th hand obsolete equipment? Selling? That's nice; meanwhile Australia is giving Ukraine state of the art Bushmaster protected mobiility vehicles:
It sends out a great message too (and she put thought into the meeting, turning up in a khaki t-shirt instead of being dressed as a politician).
Whilst Russia is not at China levels of censorship there is still lots of state controlled media feeding an ideology - if all you are ever fed is one side of the story what are you gonna believe...mother country and all - and if you rise up you are quickly quelled
Rather unfortunate choice of colour scheme and logo for the t-shirt though…
This is an image that should worry putin far more than any talk of NATO. If it doesn't, he's a moron, because it should. Bullets may win a battle, but not for long. Peace and prosperity and mutual connection even as a goal wins wars, and for far longer.
Shouldnt be to hard if you have trained soldiers in a coordinated attack
