WASHINGTON — Police discovered five fetuses at the home of an anti-abortion activist in Capitol Hill on Wednesday, the department has confirmed to WUSA9.

Officers responded shortly after noon to a home on the 400 block of 6th Street SE to investigate a tip about potential bio-hazard material in the residence. Once inside, they located the fetuses. The remains were collected by the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The home was occupied by Lauren Handy, an anti-abortion activist who was indicted along with nine others Wednesday by a federal grand jury. Handy is accused of felony conspiracy against rights for a blockade inside a D.C. abortion clinic in October 2020.

WUSA9’s camera was outside as DC Police homicide and forensic services detectives took evidence out in red biohazard bags and coolers from the rowhouse's basement.

Handy declined to speak on camera Wednesday, but told WUSA9 she expected the raid to happen "sooner or later." She also declined to say what was in the coolers, saying only that "people would freak out when they heard."

WUSA9 reached out to Handy on Thursday for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

This is a lot to process.

That is strange, in that it is usually the pro-abortists who are dismissive of the dead unborn and are indifferent to their fate as the remains are wheeled to the mass incinerators.

I dont oppose abortion myself bar the stage at which pain can be felt but its a moral position of many people , people are entitled not to be " pro choice " even its a secular sacrament amongst many progressives

anybody who invades a clinic and steals foetuses is unhinged. there is a loud, dangerous and unhinged section of the anti-abortion movement in the states. they even tried to stick their oar (and their chequebooks) in during the referendum here.

I think you knew the point made: have pro choice activists invaded a clinic to steal fetuses to have in jars for amusement or pickling, or whatever they did with them? That's the subject here, 5 stolen fetuses, no less by someone opposed to indignifying the unborn and fundamentally believes in their personhood and human rights from the point of conception.

I'm with you there, all the same though, this incident calls into question not just her sole reputation, she did not act alone. In fact, the paperwork mentions indictments for 9 other people as well, for crimes committed against the clinic. I'm afraid for the pro-life movement, this is an unescapable stain. They did not become radicalized in a 9 person vacuum.

Regardless of whatever anyone’s position on abortion, the safe disposal of human remains is a public health issue.

Be interesting to see whether the individual in question is charged with five counts of theft, or five counts of kidnapping. It really is one of those cases that’s so extreme, it’s fair to say radicals of all flavours are thinking “WTF!! 😳”
