Lovely house, fantastic location. But given its history as an RIC barracks I don't think I could ever sleep easily there. I don't believe in ghosts, but I don't not believe in them either 🙂
And I'd imagine some fairly unpleasant stuff went on in that holding room with the bars on the window. I think that kind of history stays with a building. I'd never buy a house where someone had a violent death for example. Nor would I buy an apartment in a former orphanage/laundry.
I would not believe in ghosts either, but I do agree that some places have an atmosphere. The Kilmacthomas workhouse has been well converted to offices and a large cafe etc and is an attractive place overall. But in one area, in a yard with small empty outbuildings I could not stay as there was something indefinable that was very sad and creepy.

They're not all in the house, the back yard is obviously cluttered with 2 extra bedrooms and a studio. I'd say planning is an issue hence the low price.
Not if you're cute about it. In Dublin you can do the work without applying for planning permission, but within reasonable guidelines and enforcement/DCC won't care.
Internally, you could probably do what you like. You'd have difficulty or expense changing walls internally because they are probably likely to be solid stone but planning wouldn't really be an issue for that. Where planning might be an issuse is if you are doing anything to the external structure of the building, i.e. the roof or the windows.
I'm thinking of things like changing the windows (which clearly needs to be done) or if you had to do any work on the roof. You probably wouldn't need planning permission for something like that but you'd be required to use similar materials as those that were used before. You'd have to find slates that match the roof if you had any damaged ones. You probably wouldn't be allowed to replace the windows unless you replaced them with wooden sash windows similar to the ones in place etc. All of that stuff pushes up the price.
I don't mind the house, but it's the site it's located on that would put me off.

The locks on the bedroom doors suggest a house of multiple occupancy, but I don't see any fire doors or smoke alarms (though its hard to tell, there may be some) and the windows are not fire escapes - if the ones I had to have in an ordinary domestic house are anything to go by.
I didn't notice the virtual tour, all the rooms are tiny! And the bedrooms out the back aren't connected to the central heating.

The house with the 7 beds is for sale on and off for about 2 years. It was priced way below that before this.
I know this as I tried to buy a house on the same street back then and this was one of the reasons that put me off. It's actually a great little enclave of a road and some of the houses have decent back gardens.
The front of this is horrendous imo. ok inside. would think you could buy bigger for similar money ?
Mews's are a funny category of building in Dublin 2/4. They are always pretty modest in size compared to the price tag, but almost always designed and furnished to a very high standard. They offer discreet and secure accommodation to people who probably have fine houses down the country also.
Reassuringly expensive, like the tea and scones in that hotel in Tipperary!
Jeepers, that's a fairly eye-watering price for a 3-bed alright!
But it is about 100m from the seafront (which I would pay a premium for), and right beside Sandymount village which is gorgeous, and does look beautifully spec'ed - and is bigger than I thought from looking at the cover pic - nearly 1500sq ft is a very reasonable size for Dublin city. And it has parking.
Having said that, the living area is really only suitable for a single/couple, and there's that bizarre wasted space in front/under the stairs which isn't photographed - maybe it's not as big as it looks in the photo (what is, with estate agents' pics!!!) and is just coat-hanging space.
Personally I don't like the kitchen - that washing machine sticking out would drive me over the edge very quickly. And I have those glass doors up high in my kitchen - very snazzy looking, but the hinges have given out and they're going to decapitate someone one day!
(side note, if anyone on here knows someone who might replace the hinges for me, please let me know)

Not a bad looking place but lads, people buying houses are getting roasted in Dublin. And as was mentioned earlier, the kitchen is too small.
The kitchen is a serious let down and would be a deal breaker for me. Who wants to pay that much and then have to re do things? it's nice enough apart from that though. Great location. I'm sure it will be snapped up

What's the deal with the really tall fireplace in picture 4? Looks like something from Beetlejuice.
The outside just doesnt fit in with the other houses at all - its horrible. The roof is not in line with the other houses either. It looks very odd. Its some architects idea of whats on trend - but it actually ages very quick and becomes an eyesore.
Inside is ok but agree with others that the kitchen is awful - its like something you would find in a cheap holiday home.
It appears not inline with one of the houses just a new roof with a divider due to different materials.
I quite like the front and it is weird people this it is a modern style as opposed to retro style. Personal taste is more the issue.
My first thought was, why are they showing the back of the house in the main photo?
And they could have at least tried to line up the downstairs window with the upper ones.
Yeah it is down to personal taste and its not to my taste. I doubt many people could call that house beautiful from the outside though.

I scrolled through the photos a couple of times looking for a living room, then realised, yes, its a hotel room! It isn't even glorified! Any decent hotel room would have a table and an armchair at least.
