It was very noticeable. I was expecting the Russian press to go into meltdown yesterday and say in banner headlines 'Look everyone! Biden says he wants Putin removed from power!'. Instead their reaction was very subdued and muted and hardly a word about it. I guess they are nervy and edgy and any talk of regime change in Russia has them freaked (which may mean Biden made no gaffe at all when he made those remarks).

Rouble true value is unknown. Official traded value is pure fantasy because you can't trade it against most currencies. Don't know if you are old enough to remember when the official rouble was one rate against the dollar but unofficially it was measured in pairs of Levi's not dollars.

Yes, its a fascinating Country, so vast its hard to imagine it, and while everyone associates "Russia" with Russians, ( as they are collectively known, which is understandable ) but the reality is that not everyone in Russia is an ethnic Russian, and in some republics, they are not so popular..And as mentioned, once outside the Cities, you will see a very different Russia, the rural one. You could spend a lifetime there, and still only see a fraction of what is available. Even such a simple thing as travelling on the Moscow Metro, is an experience.
Is Russia still getting hard currency from selling oil and gas…Do they still have large reserves that are not in Euro/USD/JPY because they planned for this….China and India still trading with them.
The sanction that would hurt the most is to not buy oil or gas but that won’t happen because certain European countries are hooked on it like a drug and can’t go cold turkey…so need to be slowly withdrawn from it.

This Russian guy gives a good insight in to the dilemma facing Russians who would be of similar mindset as regards the regime to ourselves here. Many of them are understandably genuinely terrified to speak out against what is going on.
If you read the comment section and translate some of the Russian ones they really demonstrate the despair of many ordinary decent Russians.

Just on the whole Roman Abramovich poisoning, so I guess that he was poisoned because he is Russian (and presumably done by an anti Russian) , but I also heard some Ukrainians were poisoned.

Looks to have been a warning shot from the Russians where they accidentally poisoned their own guy. Wasn't a killer dose. But it does seem a bit like the overall invasion, incompetence in terms of execution etc.

TBH it doesn't surprise me that the RuSSians aren't reporting on Bidens comments.
Firstly they have been saying this all along to their population so for the audience its hardly news at all.
Secondly and more importantly what Biden said especially if they show him saying it could spur people to push Putin out and may just be the catalyst that some need to do that, that is what Putin fears. If the population or the military are close to a tipping point it may be the spark that sets the fire.
At this stage the casualty numbers in Ukraine must be leeching into Russian society. All those 18yr olds who were probably onto Mama daily on the mobile have now been silent for 3-4 weeks on a "Special Operation" where they were going to be greeted with flowers.
How many of the 20k who are supposed to be guarding Putin have family members in the military in Ukraine?
How of the Generals around Putin have seen their peers cut down in Ukraine?

The Ukrainian prosecuters office has launched an investigation and said the woman had provided evidence. Also, the International Criminal court has sent a team to Ukraine and I'm sure this case will one they will look into.
