Oligarch PLC has offered them 3 Rubles
The Russians are behaving like total savages in this invasion and have utterly destroyed their already poor reputation.
Zelenskyy is completely correct in calling for that video and incident to be thoroughly investigated and is holding the Ukrainian military to a much higher standard, as the defence forces of a civilised European country under attack.
Ukraine has ambitions to become part of the EU and to be part of the broader European family of nations that had put this kind of insane war and conflict behind them and adopted far loftier goals around building peace and freedom, stability, prosperity and quality of life, human rights and a system based around a very optimistic, forward looking set of shared values that are what those institutions were about.
That is where it’s headed and Russia seems to be headed towards some kind of weird, aggressive, dark ages militarism, authoritarianism and what looks increasingly like a return to imperialism.
There never was anything threatening about the European institutions and they always were quite open to Russian cooperation. It’s just been a constant story of reaching a hand out to have to bitten off or to be slapped in the face.
No, there is clear precedent that it can't be done. Freezing assets is one thing, spending them is another.
The US Supreme Court ruling was unlawful under international law, in 2019 the International Court of Justice found against the US as the ruling was contrary to International law and allowed Iran a right to reclaim the frozen assets, or at least stop them from being used for compensation.
They're really doing a great job, if the plan is to make sure no-one will want to travel to Russia (now or in the future).
Heineken wants to leave Russia but it's worried the Kremlin could seize its assets
Plus they would no longer be able to claim they're refreshing the parts that other beers cannot reach...
Irpin had been liberated by the Ukrainian military another small victory
I heard Carlsberg will be changing their slogan to 'Probably the best lager that Russia can no longer access.'.
I’m seeing a lot of “agreeing to phase out” type statements. Just end the damn schemes immediately. They’re something that shouldn’t exist.
There is really no reason why those schemes can’t just close for new applicants tomorrow.
yeah Id be reasonably sure its real at this stage but time will tell for certain. The UA govt has already warned of the potential of fakes and deep fakes but havent said anything along those lines this time which would suggest that they know its real by identifying their own soldiers in it. The pain and suffering of the Russian soldiers in it is definitely real, you can see the colour leaving the face of one of them and he is not far off bleeding to death.
Its completely counter productive for Ukrainians to release it but it looks like it was a break down in discipline by them. Ive read a translation of the audio and it appears that the Russian soldiers might have been an artillery battalion who were shelling civilians and this is why the Ukrainians had such rage with them and shot them all in the legs.
Eh I'm pretty sure nobody involved in that footage was thinking that far ahead.
In any case it doesn't make any sense because they would have to be treated at Ukrainian medical facilities since they are, as you say, PoWs.
And if you're suggesting shooting a bunch of people in the thighs/hips/legs and then dumping them in the middle of nowhere than that is much more likely to result in dead PoWs; in which case it has nothing to do with trying to "flood the field hospitals".
My visa to russia expires in August lol, well i am not going to test it
Reliable source, hard to understand why the Russians would do this ?
/edit, probably related to this , which would indicate that the talks are a total sham.
Not really, it's hard to understand why they attacked Ukraine as well but they did.
Only one country has form in using Chemical Weapons in assassination attempts.
Some mines are designed to injure but not kill for this very purpose. How close the POWs are to Russians who can recover them is a factor.
It's not so much the use of chemical weapons that is surprising but where and when. They have form for using chemical weapons, but the logic of trying to use them on peace talks delegates is very hard to fathom. Maybe we in the West just don't understand Russian culture enough, and slipping a little polonium or something in a guest's drink is actually considered a goodwill gesture.
There could be an interesting stale mate ahead.
To be honest, its not hard to believe anything Russians are doing these days, and same as they have done since Putin got to power.
It all started with Putins apartment bombings in 99
The Putinbots like to bring up Libya as a distraction from what Putin's doing (The west just as bad, yadda yadda lie lie). But, when seeing the tweet about Russia probably poisoning the truce negotiators, I'm reminded of an article about Qaddafi where, in an interview out in a field (as you couldn't be overheard as easily that way,) the interviewee said, "When the leader is insane, everyone else is, too."
I'm reading that Abramovich had also been acting as a go between between the Russians and Ukrainians but got a hostile response from the Moscow end, who were in no humour for peace feelers.
Why are they still trying to pander to this ****, they should just give him an ultimatum and a time line to be out or war with the west and see then who blinks.
Or at the very least start escalating the weapons we are giving the Ukraine, it's frustrating watching the west follow the rules and this clown thinking his the man and can do what he likes.
**** his threats at this point.
I do see the irony alright of your thinking Russia have no right yet you have no issue with UK in Ireland.....
Packed lunches from now on I am guessing
I was wondering about Abramovich, all went quiet pretty quickly with him.
The Ukrainians need to worry less about territory and making sure they eliminate as many invaders as possible while they're starving and retreating.
Even if Russia say they have no interest in compromising, they still are compromising, if the report about their forces focusing on the east of Ukraine is accurate. That is already a compromise from their opening position in late Feb, which was take over the whole of Ukraine and take out the country's leadership.
No irony at all. The borders between the UK and Ireland are recognised by virtually all people, and virtually all people there live in peace. There are also democratic mechanisms in place if the people there ever wish to change their situation. Russia, on the other hand, is invading another country and laying waste to its infrastructure and killing its people. They are two completely different situations.
That's absolutely mental. Trying to kill the negotiation team. Wtf?
Doubt that will fare any better against a Javelin or RPG. Even just a good old AK will make mincemeat of the driver
