Steven Spielberg's West Side Story and Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog were the standout champions on the movies side, with the former winning Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana DeBose), and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Rachel Zegler), and the latter scoring Best Picture (Drama), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Best Director for Campion's work.
You say that person is seen as damaged. And the person you know did not want to leave the house.
My question for you, did you view that person as damaged?
My post isn’t about what happened at the Oscars. It is about what happened years ago at the Men inBlack 3 event in the video.
You clearly did not pay attention when reading. This kind of thing can lead to confusion.
Will Smith was ABSOLUTELY unstable last night. He physically assaulted the host of the Oscars and then screamed abusive language on live wordwide television!
If you think that is the action of a stable man, then you perhaps should not go outside. The world would be a safer place with you inside.
Why are you obsessed with skin colour?
So you think this incident at the Oscars could have been staged?
What possible reasons could Smith and Rick have for doing this?
No I commented on what I saw, Rock continued with his script and didn't make a big deal of the slap (played it down). It's all fairly straightforward. The poster I replied to spoke about Smiths thought process as if he knew exactly what went through his head.
Regardless of why Will Smith decided to take action against Chris Rock about the joke, it's interesting that in the history of awards and the somewhat crass jokes that accompany them, this is the first time anyone thought it necessary to assault someone over a joke. And despite how some people feel about Jade's illness there have been much more potent jokes made throughout the years without assault. The rarity of Smith's action is all you need to know that he was in the wrong and likely to suffer as a result.
What was equally outrageous was the somewhat sexual nature of Wanda Sykes' "joke" earlier in the night. I fear it that had been a male host we would have seen a completely different reaction.
Hahaha so you cant even tell aggression , ill probably not take your take on Will Smiths emotions then . How do you know his mental state? I am outside at the moment.
He made some great movies with spike Lee. Snipes is a great actor.
Mental illness and being mentally unstable are not mutually exclusive. You can be one or the other, or both, but being unstable doesn't mean you have an illness.
I felt really sad and helpless when they would cry with me every time that I visited.
The person’s hair didn’t look great and it was hard to ignore. I loved them but it made me see them as more vulnerable.
Be honest with yourselves, if you were dating somebody and their hair fell out, would you feel different about them? This is the stigma that people with alopecia (of all genders) have to face
I missed Sykes joke. What was it?
No he was not unstable. That is an idiotic.
He lost his temper.
I am genuinely concerned for some people here. You are just not going to be able for an my situation with a person who is even slightly aggressive.
Which is exactly what you are doing.
l like yourself I don’t know Will Smith’s mental state. Unlike yourself I don’t pretend I know.
But I do know that what happened in that stage happens a lot all over the world. Just because someone loses their temper and smacks someone else doesn’t make them “mental”. It just means they lost their temper.
I literally said he might be! My argument is that it all looked very unhinged to me. You are fully sure it was just him losing his temper. Our views are the same at opposing ends.
I've dealt with many unstable people who had lost their temper over the years. Occupational hazard. He lost control of his temper, therefore he was in an unstable mental state. Not mentally ill, just an unstable state. When you can control your emotions you are in a stable emotional state, when you cannot, you are in an unstable emotional state. It's fairly basic stuff.
Could he not have just walked up to Rock and explained that he did not take kindly to the joke, ask him to apologise to Jada and then refrain from any further jokes. Then, if Rock persisted he would have some ground to slap him.
The fact that he walked up and threw a slap without warning was cowardly behaviour. Rock probably too shocked (or weak) to hit back.
What if it was a woman comic? What if it was 'The' Rock instead of Chris Rock? He would not have done that.
I dont think you can defend what Will Smith did in any way.
No I’m not “fully sure” he lost his temper.
I’ve said a few times that he could be pretending he did.
again, if you think a guy losing his temper is the same as being unhinged I’m genuinely worried what is going to become of you. You just won’t be able for real people.
or perhaps you are just calling him “unhinged” becasue others are doing it. Maybe you don’t believe that yourself.
Inly you know I guess.
I certainly have plenty of times.
Just because thuggish behaviour is taking place at an awards ceremony it is still thuggish behaviour. If you think this is a normal way to carry on or deal with insults then that says more about your overall outlook.
The joke was crass and unacceptable, I can accept that, but Smith crossed a big line. That was a clear physical assault. If someone did that to you you would not simply accept it.
If he was unstable and had lost control then why was he smirking as he walked away?
It would have been far more powerful if he had verbally denounced Rock in his speech and outlined the suffering that his wife had to go through. The assault undermines his argument
Mentally unstable and mentally ill are the same thing.
You can nearly be guaranteed he wont, but just as guaranteed Chris Rock wont be invited to host again. Apart from embarrassed Will Smith will suffer nothing else, and I'm sure he would rather it go away, but you can be sure his wife will be all about it!!
In my un-education opinion there has to be more to it than just this tasteless joke.
You are correct, I assumed you meant the slap last night - the one on the reporter doing the prank was even less of a slap.
Grand, you've no clue what you are talking about. We'll leave it there so.
It was actually Regina Hall. She called up a number of "single" celebs and talked about how she was going to "test" them back stage for Covid - while naked. She called up Will Smith also - stating that he was "single" due to the arrangement he had with his wife but he declined to go up on stage. She then proceed to "feel-up" Jason Momoa and Josh Brolin in a very inappropriate manner. Was very cringy
It has nothing to do with it being at an awards ceremony.
It was feeble little slap. A thug would do more.
This was expected - that you would go bury your head in the sand at the end.
What makes you think the reporter trying to kiss Smith was doing it as a prank?
