Steven Spielberg's West Side Story and Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog were the standout champions on the movies side, with the former winning Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana DeBose), and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Rachel Zegler), and the latter scoring Best Picture (Drama), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Best Director for Campion's work.
How do you know he saw it? He was facing away from her?
mI’m not saying it couldn’t be so - just saying it is speculation
I get your reasonably new to boards , but may I suggest you lighten up, get out for some fresh Air but more importantly read your posts prior to posting, your clearly failing to grasp a very simple concept , attack the Post, not the Poster .
We clearly disagree on what's happened, get over it 🙄
There really is nothing more tiresome than a spoilt celebrity crying and looking for sympathy for how tough their lives are.
Its hardly even an insult, shes got a shaved head and compares her to a character in a military movie played by Demi Moore with a shaved head.
It was a mild joke compared to what Ricky Gervais doles out to all in sundry.
Time was that mocking someone was a form of affection
shes got a shaved head
LOl do you actually think that was what the issue with the joke was??
You are suggesting someone else “lighten up”?
You are they one banging on about mental health and wringing their hands in pretend outrage about this “violent ordeal”.
Look up “irony” in a dictionary.
He could've clocked him backstage, and honestly, the headlines would've been different.
Doing on the biggest live TV event of the year does display a lack of impulse control and you lose control of the narrative.
Look, he didn't murder anyone, but some anger management courses probably wouldn't go astray.
Still have not watch ‘the power of the dog’. But I think the best Netflix film I have seen is still ‘Beasts of no Nation’ from about 5 years ago.
Shes got Alopecia, I know, what makes ya think Chris Rock knew? Its nasty if he did but reality is he probably didn't know.
Mod note: Keep it civil, please. Any more personal attacks will be carded.
It is a reasonable assumption that he knew. she has had it for 4 years. and it isn't the first "joke" he made at the oscars at her expense.
i'm not up on Mrs Smith?? can you elaborate please😶
look at 3 posts above yours.
absolutely more reason not to make jokes about peoples appearances.
it was a really tasteless joke about quite a damaging disease. Gervais would never had made it- he would go after actors narcissism or bad behaviour. My guess is the writer didnt know she had a condition and thought it was a fashion choice. Will smith should exile himself from next years ceremony though.
I think DiCaprio is the most bankable movie star. Apart from his latest about the comet, practically every film he makes is both critic and commercial success.
She's got alopecia and she shags around.
I'm out anyway, thats enough commentary on these 2 clowns.
It's correct for people to criticise Rock for his joke as it wasn't very funny and was personal but I don't see how people can use it to excuse Smith or justify his actions. It did not give him the right to walk on stage and assault Rock.
Two wrongs don't make a right and in fairness I think Rock handled it well afterwards and Smith looked really bad and then his speech after was just woeful.
Do we know if the “joke” was Chris Rock’s own or if it was from Academy script writers?
He surely didn’t get famous with this kind of thing
The real scandal is how such a bang average film (if even that) like Coda gets nominated, let alone wins Best Picture
Probably fair.
Tom Hanks was to a point but a lot of flops recently/direct to streaming
Will Smith was definitely wrong but it is strange to insult the partner of someone up for an award. Felt very Golden Globe-ish
So does he...who cares...they are clearly ok with it and have been open about it
Meh. Don't think I'll bother with Oscar betting again; AFAICS there wasn't a single real surprise...
Zidane did it better
she shags around? maybe that's why he was so uptight?
Hanks has been churning out pretty solid movies TBF. Not too many "flops" in there.
Also direct to streaming doesn't mean your movie is a flop.
The streamers now are financing the movies.
If Smith was more intelligent he would have walked onstage as he did, but then taken over the stage with an impromptu speech about his wife condition, how it’s something many women suffer with, how it’s wrong for presenters to make jokes at others expenses and then at end Rock he needs to leave the stage before he physically removed him. This would appeal to every woke group out there and bring untold future opportunities to both Smith and the wife. But I guess he didn’t think and just acted in the moment, and out of control.
But his movies are not really big at box office like Smith’s used to be.
Tom Cruise is pretty much the only movie star that really draws the crowd. Other than him it is the franchises that are the star.
However, didn’t Smith make a choice to step away from blockbusters?
