Steven Spielberg's West Side Story and Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog were the standout champions on the movies side, with the former winning Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Supporting Actress (Ariana DeBose), and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical (Rachel Zegler), and the latter scoring Best Picture (Drama), Best Supporting Actor (Kodi Smit-McPhee), and Best Director for Campion's work.
This has to be viewed in the context that the poor woman was dying at the time. The appalling nature can only be understood if you realise that… Mocking somebody’s poor health is just disgusting
Re: alopecia, I have a woman in my direct family who suffered with it. She cried for 6 months and was too embarrassed to leave home. There were plenty of well-meaning “it’s very thin. Have you tried…” It was a difficult thing to watch.
probably not. But they could raffle the bags and send the proceeds to the people
You've missed the point
I never said it wasn’t a big deal. I’m talking about the wishy-washy hand wringing reactions to it like calling into question Smith’s mental health. You’d swear people hear had never seen someone get angry before
It doesn’t matter what you or I consider a “mild joke” (to call anything Rock says is a joke is very generous) it only how the target feels about it. Just because you can’t see how a comment can hurt doesn’t mean it can’t.
and now people are offended by the profanity ? Please. People eff and blind all the time. You do it. It on every other TV show.
I couldn’t believe he was allowed to just sit down afterwards, anyone else would have been escorted out immediately. Just shows that celebrity status is still a huge thing when it comes to applying the law.
Also, don't forget the fact that his wife has opinions of her own and they engage in an atypical sexual relationship where she is allowed to make sexual choices for herself. That means she is definitely a thundering bitch controlling every aspect of his life and she deserves everything she gets.
looks staged when you see it in slomo
That is different to a restaurant and the Oscars.
company policy, employment contracts etc
Delighted to Coda win best picture. Watched it a few weeks ago and thought it was excellent. Havent seen many of the other winners but must check them out. Used to be mad into watching all the Oscar movies but last few years can't be bothered. Have heard good things about King Richard. Power of the dog just looks depressing and a hard watch.
I have to say I found the whole thing thrilling.
If you think I’m not getting then why don’t you explain to me what I’m not getting m?
Better ratings, this year?
I'm Clearly not living in the magical world your living in 🙄
I don't think I did. you're comparison just isn't valid.
I doubt they are allowed in the ts and cs.
Look some celebrities have actually done amazing work for Ukraine etc...just look at Ashton Kutcher and his wife I think they raised plus 30 million.
Sean Penn is doing a doc and is close to the topic clearly.
I do agree there is a lot of other whinging and preaching from the sermon...a lot of celebs at that level have an insane ego.
Why would Will smith ,one of the biggest star in Hollywood who isn’t a publicity whore, agree to a sketch that will have on every paper and magazine cover for months. What’s in it for him?
It really doesn't. Watch it in full....look at the reactions of everyone involved.
So predictable to see the bullying card being dished out again.
He's not majorly bankable like he used to be. For example, he hasn't lead a majorly successful film in many years. And he's been reported to be quite difficult on many more films.
Smith's fallen far from his heyday, where he had back to back blockbusters. Very easy for a studio to cut ties, and seek out the major up and coming talent. Plus he was always seen as the 'easy going, safe' guy. Easy to work with and what have ya.
This won't do him any favors.
In reaction to the #metoo movement, the Oscars introduced a code of conduct, rules that members need to adhere to or else face expulsion from the academy, or return any awards awarded post-2017's new rules. It also ousted individuals like Harvey Weinstein and Roman Polansky from the Academy.
Will's actions could very well have broken that code of conduct. And if they have, he may very well have to return his award. Now I would be in doubt about that happening, but considering the number of academy members who have tweeted about being disgusted with his behaviour... he may have do an apology tour, to try and save face. Or else be made an example of.
To be honest it looked very limp
i don’t think Smith knows how to throw a real slap and if Rock thinks that is “getting the shot beat out of you” then he has never been hit before
I doubt he's " mentally unwell " and never came across as anything but cheerful in the past, he made an ass of himself on stage however , Chris Rock made a tame joke ,big deal if she has a condition, she's a multi millionaire movie star , not a Ukrainian refugee
This is not going to help the black on black crime stats in America.
What were they going to do? Kick him out?
That would open U.K. a whole different cannot works
No because I live in the real world were people lose tempers, make bad decisions, etc.
I don’t throw around comments about peoples mental health noR do I own a high horse
Based on a cursory breakfast browse, this particular incident seems to have created an unprecedented supernova of hot takes online. Never seen so many takes hurled at such velocity!
Im not a mind reader, it was a half assed slap though , wasnt even a punch so was in the realm of something that could be staged.
Why is there always someone who thinks this and how does slowmo change it?
Clearly not staged and Smith facing a massive backlash?
How would this boost ratings as those not watching would have missed it?
I am sure that people will be viewing the clip with interest.
I doubt many people actually sit through the whole start-to-finish live-show these days
He was laughing his ass off at the joke, then saw her scowl and reacted. That's pathetic like, absolutely whipped by the MRS clearly.
This is fantastic autocorrect
