NRA have this morning advertised for engineering consultancy to design medium to long term solution to the junction!
:):)
Tarmac being laid down to link the already completed N8 East to M8 north sliproad, to the M8 north of the junction.
If you have a look at the top left corner in both of these screenshots taken today you can see the before and after as the new tarmac is being laid for the Glanmire to M8 north slip.
Webcam isn’t very clear but it looks like all the beams forming the roof of the tunnel were removed over night.
EDIT: Most are removed. A few beams remain.
Passed through yesterday on my way home from the airport. Was good to see it in action (although I nearly crashed in the process).
On a side note, will someone tell Cork City Council NOT to allow the road by the Elysian towards town to be reduced to one lane and a four way stop/go on nights when the tunnel is closed? It was absolutely ridiculous.
This is an interesting one which I hadn't thought about. Might be possible, as with lighting columns going up near the new flyover too.
Beams for the ST05 bridge going in next week. Huge progress here. Have to wonder what the timeline is to reroute traffic under ST05 before going into the tunnel. That would facilitate embankment work just south of the present roundabout.
Went on dunkettle today, first time in long time and it's just great to see. Serious progress all over. Shocked at the angle of coming off the roundabout to go on m8 North, far steeper than I thought
No point on saying it on here, email CCC or the main contractor involved
Oh I wasn't giving out, I just assumed it was a slower incline
Its only a temporary alignment. Eventually the road will be straight lined and will follow the southbound carriageway towards the tunnel.
I assume it'll still get down to the current road level under the n25? Otherwise surely it'd be tight for trucks
Yes it will. There’ll be no conflicting east/west movement so it’ll be its own alignment. It may be even lower given the need to pass under the N25W -> M8N movement
It should be fine. It is steep at the moment as it needs to merge into the roundabout. The final alignment will likely have a much more graduated incline going under the N8-N25 mainline.
Great video from DroneHawk on the recent changes on site. Especially on the area around the concrete tunnel over the railway line.
Beams for the new bridge south of the roundabout supposed to be put in place overnight.
Crane on site to place new beams.
East Cork Crane Hire getting good business out of this. I still hate them though, toddling along the N25 and N40 at rush hour!!
Good update email there, the beams are in and some piling for another new bridge starting too (ST08, which I believe is the n25 West to m8 north). And the bridge over the n25 will be used by construction traffic, some speed involved in getting that done as the last beams were quite recent
N25 West to M8 North has some beams already! Some going

Yes, it's amazing to see the beam appearing overnight. I'm curious as to how this works exactly. How do they place something so huge into such an accurate position? I presume you can't just kick it into place with the heel of your boot to get the last few mm lined up??
All beams I think. This bridge will only cater for a single lane of traffic so doesn’t have to be too wide.
N8 east between Dunkettle Roundabout and Dunkettle Interchange was closed last night.
Assume this was to facilitate some tie in work for the new slip to M8 north?
Big progress on link U.
Mid April they have down for the opening of this link road (U8) but it looks like it could be sooner.
Mid April isn’t long to wait.
I’m interested to see if they’ll open the N8 east to Glounthaune piece before the final bridge is built.
The bridge for the M8S to N25E slip you mean? I don't think the Glounthaune tie in is anywhere near ready to be in place before that one.
Or do you mean the new Little Island interchange bridge? I think the Glounthaune slip WILL be in place before that one.
