Yes and that criticism from the "music establishment" was equally tone deaf. Nobody was suggesting banning the 1812 Overture; and in this particular case it was claimed that an actual member of the orchestra had family "directly involved [with the situation in] in Ukraine"; which seems like a pretty decent reason even aside from any public facing statement or support that might have been intended.

Which I called tokenistic. The question of banning conductors close to Putin is one thing. Pretending to do something by the choice of music played is not a stand against anything. In that case donating the box office returns is a far better and more practical statement. Protesting about nationality is really a very slippery slope.

I reckon Russia will struggle to hold onto the donbas region especially how strong the Ukrainians have shown themselves to be more men and equipment than every before and the ability to hit day or night ,can't see Russia throwing tens of thousands of men to shore up an area that has any real strategic value to them ,

Not really it only accounts for 10% of Europe's needs overall. The problem will be finding the other 90%. LNG is quite expensive compared to piped gas nevermind the costs to transport it, to give some idea it takes 20 of those LNG tanker ships with the big tennis balls on them to compensate for 30 minutes of piped gas and Nordstream 1 is pumping gas 24 hours a day.
Yeah, I have no problem with there being more than one large power in the world so that they keep each other acting sanely. Unfortunately for Russia, they're not acting sanely, and they're not heeding calls to act so, therefore they need to fall on their arse and learn their place, which is well behind China.
Indeed, I'm not sure why people are confident that Putin will be able to hold on to Donbas and Crimea without difficulty if he decides to give up on Kyiv - all bets are off at this stage.
