It was a homophobic statement in the context that MHR used it. Given that, you can figure out the severity of it.

There is zero evidence that a common phrase was used in a homphobic way. Taken in it's commonly used form it isn't homophobic so the onus is on those claiming homophobia is to prove he intended it that way.
It's not up to you or Leo to decide what is or isn't a homophobic statement, especially when it is a commonly used phrase and never been used as a homophobic slur by anyone ever - unless you can prove otherwise.
It's only a handful of buffoons that seem to want to find offence in it, and to use it as a tool. If that's what they want to do, well then maybe they should crawl back into their holes underground, or wherever it is trolls live and discuss it there.
So what, you think people can say whatever they like and the person on the other end doesn't have a choice if the statement are a slur or not? cop on to yourself.
The only people I see going on about this are the like of Paddy Cosgrove and the mob that follows a certain party. Who posted it on this thread? who was running from one thread to another, who was trawling the web trying to find if Leo had used the word? who was trawling the archives to see if the word was used in the Dail before?

No it wasn't. MRH said it wasn't and judging by the responses online, the majority would accept that. The context and what he was referring to was fantasy land and those that habit it. It is only a tiny minority who have decided it was offensive.

MRH should have retorted with Leo's initial response since Leo had just repeated him:

Do you honestly think I could be bothered watching some TV shows? the dog on the street could tell you how corrupt all the political parties are in the county councils. If you are so concerned about them why don't you have a chat with the party you support and figure out what they are doing about it?
One of the present governing parties FG stood up in Dáil and promised to implement the recommendations of the Mahon Tribunal.
We know what they are 'doing', next to sweet FA.
All of the parties have councillors who are at the same carry on. As I said this should have a thread of its own. Jumping and shouting about a certain parties councillors while ignoring the rest is a bit short sighted. Especially when the report I provided earlier from 2019 had a number of high profile councils which had been run by opposition parties.
The focus of the discussion is the promise of the governing party to sort it out and implement the recommendations that they promised to (Jan O'Sullivan and Phil Hogan) implement. 7 years later and many of them haven't been.
No that's not the focus at all. That is the focus you would like because it covers up for parties who ran huge county councils for years in Ireland and delivered nothing for the people.
The focus is on all county councils and councillors who are ripping off the system. This is across all parties. So yes it should have it's own thread.
And on a government thread the question is asked WHY has the government not done anything about it, when they promised to 7 years ago?
Do you think they should have lived up to their promise? Given they are the ones vested with the power to change the system are they the ones to blame for ongoing abuse, lack of accountability and cover-ups in some cases?

Watch the program and educate yourself before you visit the ballot box again. Read up on the Mahon report too. It did cost the state a huge amount to produce it.

Local government was a key focus of the Mahon Tribunal's work. The public was promised that political reform in this sector would be swift and emphatic.
The then-Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O'Sullivan, said that the report's recommendations would be implemented "to ensure such behaviour can never, ever happen again".
Her government colleague, Phil Hogan, the then-Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, said he would examine the report and "take whatever further steps are necessary to restore and underpin confidence and transparency in the local government system".
