So maybe the world should send poitin and left it around?
Big if true, but, left the country? Where to? How? Or more likely "removed" from his post perhaps never to be seen again?
Are you joking? Lads off the leash and away from home for many weeks. One of the main jobs of the military police in WW2 was controlling queues at brothels and dealing with the like.
if we as a country ever decide to end our military neutrality, then we must substantially beef up our security with a strong investment in defence funds and a large high tech navy before we make the change.
I fear you're right - some may be thinking "why help to chase them out when we can leave them to be mauled by the Ukrainians for another month"
Sure is. Can you imagine if someone of our TDs were using guns and rocket launchers..
..oh.. wait. Nevermind
Y'know, the smart thing to do there would have been to transfer the few things from the old trolley into the sugar trolley and swan off with the whole lot!
Because we're neutral.
Same reason we've never sent weapons anywhere.
That sounds like the kind of fucked up story that would have made it onto the short story list for Irish
Maybe they are running out of or are trying to save the laser guided weapons ? And these are the next best thing? An ugly indiscriminate weapon.( not saying that there is such a thing as a beautiful weapon.)
From the Guardian:
Citizens in France, Germany, Italy and Sweden overwhelmingly support stronger and further-reaching sanctions against Russia, even if they lead to increased economic hardship at home, new polling shows
The poll, commissioned by the Kyiv School of Economics and undertaken in mid-March, revealed that 47% believe that current sanctions against Russia do not go far enough, while 76% said “sanctions should remain for as long as is needed to stop the war, even if this negatively impacts my cost of living”, compared to 24% who said “due to their impact on my cost of living, sanctions should be removed and normal trade should resume”.
This consensus held in each of the four countries polled. Just 13% believe current sanctions go too far.
When asked what they thought to their country purchasing Russian oil and gas, 30% thought cutting off oil and gas would increase prices too much; 23% thought continuing to import Russian oil and gas was morally wrong; 22% said it was a risk to European security and 18% said it was a national embarrassment.
Many Europeans (26%) are also considering opening their homes to refugees from the war, and are either planning to do so (7%), have seriously considered at some point (17%) or are already hosting a Ukrainian refugee family (3%).
The Kyiv School of Economics is calling for European countries to introduce five measures, including disconnecting Russian and Belarussian banks from the SWIFT payment system, banning exports of arms and other military equipment to Russia, an energy export embargo, closing ports to all Russian ships and imposing personal sanctions on individuals connected to Putin.
Ah there is.
Priti Patel.
It's a very depressing clip. Not so much depressing that there is panic buying of sugar and other staples.
More so the way the shop staff chose to make the trolley available, knowing that there was a queue. They could have handed out 1 per queued person, but they chose to let the 'animals' fight it out for themselves while another staff member had the camera ready for the good footage. It's going to be tough (relative to normal living, not Ukraine) enough on the ordinary Russian over the next few weeks/months/years without being degraded by their 'fellow' citizens for social media likes. I am also 100% certain that the staff took whatever sugar they needed themselves before wheeling out the leftovers.
A visit to the brothel isn't on par with rape.
I have to wonder, did he step down then leave the country, or did he go abroad first, then send a resignation email? I know which way around I'd have done it!
So you don't believe it then ?is that what your saying. They seem quite adept at bombing hospital's and shooting cars full of familys. Daily btw.
"Russian climate envoy and personal advisor to Putin Anatoly Chubais has resigned and left the country, citing his opposition to President Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine. Chubais is the highest-level official to break off from Moscow over the invasion."
It depends on whether the women there have a choice on being there.
Either way, the Russian armies reputation precedes it.
Either option would still be of potential detriment to ones health I should think, being on foreign soil has never been an issue for the Russians when they want rid of you.
As I said earlier we could ‘lend’ them to another army who may need them for ‘ training exercises’ or whatever without breaking our neutrality. They could ‘accidentally be misplaced’ and end up in Ukraine. There is no need for protocol and diplomatic procedure when your dealing with bad faith actors like the Russians. These weapons are needed on the ground right now in Ukraine.
Yes; this is one important aspect. If we were to become a target in the eyes of say Russia we have absolutely zero defence against even the most rudimentary form of attack. We have no anti-submarine assets, anti-air assets, anti-anything-that-comes-from-range assets.
In my view the abandonment of military neutrality would have to go hand in hand with NATO and/or EU military forces being stationed in Ireland alongside a significant increase in our military spending and modernisation of the Defence Forces.
In any case I think it's clear the government has zero intention of ending our military neutrality in the near future; beyond some world-changing event or other.
The "young people" must be looking up to the farmers:-
You have to question how wise it is to be riding around in russian military vehicles. A constant target for the Ukranian forces.
You would hope they at least threw some yellow or blue paint over the white Z/V/whatever...
I guess it's a good thing there aren't many Ukrainian aircraft operating; and presumably the local territorial defence guys would be aware of the captured vehicle.
In 1945, they raped their way across East Prussia and eastern Germany and any female was seen as fair game, even the very young. Their behaviour was similar in Poland, which they were "liberating".
Yeah, I mean all military rape in my opinion. You have a bunch of young lads, who are aware they will die any day, they have no reason to maintain morality. You are depending on the individuals personal ethics, so yeah it's gonna be hit or miss. It's hard enough I'm sure to get them to follow orders and chain of command, I'm sure noone is too worried about alleged rape cases in the command. In many cases rape is purposely used as a psychological tool to instil fear in the occupied population, just like beatings, summary execution etc. A war is a war, nobody is playing nice.
100% agree that they are needed on the ground in Ukraine. And they will get them from those countries that promised military assistance.
And I can equally 100% tell you that they won't be Irish Army weapons. There's no point trying to invent fantasy scenarios where this will happen.
Aye, some craic though 🤣🤣🤣
Well I can't imagine too many Russians losing sleep over it but at least it's something?
From their press release (https://www.nestle.com/ask-nestle/our-company/answers/update-russia-ukraine):
Going forward, we are suspending renowned Nestlé brands such as KitKat and Nesquik, among others. We have already halted non-essential imports and exports into and out of Russia, stopped all advertising, and suspended all capital investment in the country.
