This war in Ukraine. Have you ever come across a more pointless and unjustified and unnecessary and unexplainable invasion ever? Just people blowing things up. Obscene that humans can behave like this. One man, Putin deciding on people’s rights to life?!
Couldn't agree more. I've been into military history and wargaming since my teens: Ancients, Napoleonics, American Civil War, WW2 are my main areas of knowledge. My interest wanes after 1945 but I'd have at least a passing interest in most periods. I would be very happy, though, if this conflict, and all other current conflicts, came to a full stop tomorrow. This isn't a fight that's done and dusted with the dead buried and mourned long ago; many of the dead in this conflict are still alive tonight. If I lived another three lifetimes I wouldn't have time to do justice to all the military history that exists from Sargon of Akkad to Adolf of Berlin. No more is required or desired.
"Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, contrary to what you have just seen, war is neither glamorous nor fun. There are no winners, only losers. There are no good wars, with the following exceptions: The American Revolution, World War II, and The Star Wars Trilogy." (Bart Simpson)
Anecdote: A wargamer once recounted how, having decided to dip his toe into Ancients, went to his local wargame shop to buy some Roman figures.
"Certainly sir," said the helpful shopkeeper, "Are you looking for early Republic, pre-Marian, post-Marian, late Republic, early Empire or late Empire?"
"Well," said the customer, unsure of himself. "I was looking for the Romans with the red cloaks, crested helmets and rectangular shields."
"Ah!" said the shopkeeper wisely, "Hollywood Romans".
Possibly - could all be brinkmanship though - The Russians are infamous for Misdirection (maskirovka) - Certainly they may be burning their documents in advance of being expelled - and that is ominous. I saw mentioned a few times that if EU countries are going to break off diplomatic relations with Russia, they will do so collectively. And that would probably happen 'in response' to something particularly horrendous
I would argue they will not leave, but wait to be forced to leave. Means they can milk a few minutes on Kremlin TV, bemoaning the west for being 'uncivilized'
Either that or its going to be cold in Warsaw? lol
All is possible!
EDIT: Joking Re the weather of course i agree its ominous if thats what they are doing - perhaps see what is highlighted RE other embassies
Says on the thread its not a recent photo
Waiting for confirmation on that. But another tweet from a local says that appearantly this is a common enough thing at the embassy. So, probably nothing.
Or choosing a new Pope.
I'm trying to think of a similar war where it's been such one sided aggression. You probably have to go back to Nazi invasions. I think this is what's got people so angry towards Russia, because it's essentially a clear war of conquest. We all assumed those types of wars were over. Russia literally decided it was kind of bored or something and with no imminent threat or danger, set out to just take a country.
Interesting Ted talk on how Mad Vlad got his money.
How I figured out the Achilles heel of Vladimir Putin | William Browder | TEDxBerlin
Hope I don't jinx it, but I think it's safe to say the Ukrainian capital will not be taken by Russia.
Where have you been this past month it’s a ‘Special military action’ it’s not a war or invasion it’s Russians simply helping fellow countrymen escape persecution from the vile nazi Ukrainians
Taking a vote on whether to cede from the Russian Federation!? Heres hoping - im still recovering from that guy on Russian TV talking openly about 'nuking europe' - Incredibly irresponsible Russian behavior seems par for the course these days
Yeah i'm very nervous about what a beaten Putin will do now to be honest. If he starts reaching for the crazy ****, hopefully his people take him out.
What I find interesting is that it appears at a certain level in Russian society they believe that Europe and the US don't have the requisite liathroidi to get into a nuclear war. So they feel free to threaten this to and believe if they launched nukes they were would be no retaliation... But they must know deep down this is not right? That the west would have to fire back, regardless?
Vlad may be a lot of things but he's not stupid.
Horrible c*nts blowing up Odesa from the sea now..
Funny how those threads get wild.
Like the one on the internal flights in russia the other day. What a time to be alive.
Yes exactly, and that is why we can't let Putin take Ukraine. It is better to nip this in the bud as fast as possible before things get worse.
Yep these guys look like the real deal unlike Kadyrovs "Tiktok" brigade.
Someone was claiming that the Russians are burning documents in Slovakia, Czechia and Germany, but literally zero proof. One of those 'friends' comments.
I think the reality is, is that should the Russians go down that road they'll have opened Pandoras box and will not control the situation anymore. Which for all their big talk about nukes, is probably why they won't use them.
The French are doing their bit.................Not
I thought that was yesterday and they stopped again today?
I'll look for a source.

So, no idea what they are at
Cheese eating surrender monkeys
An interesting quote from that article
"Volodymyr Zelenskiy, criticised Nestlé, which continues to sell “essential” products such as baby food, cereals and some pet foods in Russia, in a streamed speech to thousands of protesters in Switzerland’s capital of Berne on Saturday."
Zelenskiy wants baby food to be unavailable to Russians?
Anyone old enough to remember Afghanistan 1979. I was in nappies. So it’s beyond my memory. But it does seem to have a similar initial shock factor ,in that it came out of the blue, although not as devastating as the current war.
Beats bombing them I suppose
Yeah starving is a better way to go...
Whatever about Putin, the Russian economy is f'ed
Gdp shrinkage of 10% a year
Inflation of 20% or greater
I do get nervous sometimes when i see unconfirmed reports. And you end up hoping that they arent true. And then frequently they do actually turn out to be early coverage of developing stories. SO MANY TIMES during the early parts of this Thread (and the politics one) iv seen people mentioning stuff, that i honestly thought couldnt possibly be true.
Official tweets from Russian Embassies insulting Germany France and Japan - i swore they wouldnt, yet they did
That Maternity hospital was another one - I saw tweets here and there - and was nearly begging for it not to be confirmed - Sadly it was
I think the embassy burning documents, if AT ALL TRUE- is very ominous. The EU has all but 'officially announced' it will act in unison. Therefore if 'something' is about to happen RE Ukraine - they would probably begin preparing for a bloc expulsion right now. The embassy staff wouldnt even know about it of course. They would simply receive orders
Add to that, the fact that the Irish embassy MAY WELL BE a station (foreign intelligence outpost for Russia) - incidentally, that is not mere speculation - see below
So yea, certainly worth waiting to see if anyone main stream (even blue ticked on Twitter) - mentions this possible burning of docs - Ominous if true
Anybody watching prime time?Ukrainian guy was confident they had to win and the Russians could use nukes on them... got very pissed with Miriam and brought up the Irish conflict and she said yes but we had to negotiate and signed the Anglo Treaty and the Good Friday Agreement for peace....he said yes but we are an independent country...does he think we're not independent??
Russian companies make baby food and theirs Always breasts
Just Western baby food. They can have all of the other baby foods they like.
