From the BBC:
A ferocious two-day struggle for control of the farming town of Voznesensk and its strategically important bridge was one of the most decisive battles of the war in Ukraine so far.
Victory would have enabled Russian forces to sweep further west along the Black Sea coast towards the huge port of Odesa and a major nuclear power plant.
Instead, Ukrainian troops, supported by an eclectic army of local volunteers, delivered a crushing blow to Russian plans, first by blowing up the bridge and then by driving the invading army back, up to 100km, to the east.
"It's hard to explain how we did it. It's thanks to the fighting spirit of our local people and to the Ukrainian army", said Voznesensk's 32-year-old mayor, Yevheni Velichko.
As on so many frontlines in Ukraine, British-supplied anti-tank missiles proved crucial in turning the tide against Russian armour in Voznesensk, leaving the town littered with up to 30 tanks, armoured cars and even a helicopter.
"It's only thanks to these weapons that we were able to beat our enemy here", said Mr Velichko.
The word "desparate" has been used a lot to describe his pleas to western powers for airplanes, aid, bullets, no-fly zones etc. You can be inspirational and desparate at the same time. To your quote, the man is in a city which is getting bombed left right and centre.
And you agree with Tubridy that he's not shaven and is wearing a tshirt. Grand so.
It's the sort of galaxy brain thinking that comes from drinking the Kremlin Kool Aid.
He just omits the fact that should they go down that road they would find a load of nukes launched right back at them.
Good Q&A on Sky News now. The UK are training Ukrainians, in Poland, to use Starstreak & have even have a training simulator there.
At one point he openly discussed that they would 'have a land corridor to Transdniester (aka Transnistria, aka Moldova) - Insane
A Russian lieutenant colonel was taken prisoner: he was wearing underpants and socks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It's at times like this you would need Bill O' Herlihy sitting there keeping order.
A lot of hot air I would suggest. Their TV seems to be full of these shows nightly with ageing male crank guests mouthing off with all sorts of threats against Russia's neighbours and the West.
Kinda reminds me of the Nazis in April' 45 discussing the new building projects for Berlin after the war and talking about the works of Albert Speer.
Watching it. Michael Clark is a brilliant contributor.
Russian press is still running articles about what will happen after Zelensky has been deposed and Ukraine has been divided up into different regions under Russian control.
The amount of satellites NATO and others have trained I'd say is unreal. The Russians probably cannot fart without it getting reported to the Ukrainians.
Bill: Okeedoki - well, look that is one opinion. Now let me ask you John as SENIOR ANALYST - What do you make of this talk about Land corridors to Kaliningrad
John: Well thats rubbish there Bill. As iv said before, managing an Army is about utilizing the players that you have at your disposal. and eh, in all honesty, i cant see Russia being able to do that.
Eamon: I hate to cut across you John, but thats nonsense there. And see that guy on 'Kremlin TV' - Thats the guy who ran off and left his wife for a young one.. and eh.. .. Sorry john, i wont cut across you
John: Well i dont doubt that, there Eamon
Liam: Id like to just step in here, and say that, substitutions at this point will be crucial.. And Russia is bogged down. BADLY, but if they can...
Eamon: No no, hang on now. Your trying to dominate this chat there Liam. And you got away with it last week and.....
Bill: Okeedoki well look, we will take a commercial break now, but before we do! Stay tuned to hear about our competition where you can win a trip, to lovely Minsk
Couldnt resist - so sorry - apologies
It’s getting very Star Wars. Darth Vader force-choking lackey goons because they can’t beat the “Rebel scum” and the Death Star doesn’t work, then turning to the nearest button-pusher and referring to him as “Commander”. Putin needs to watch out for the Ewoks.
well it is surreal in fairness - bewildering stuff
Pretty much exactly how I imagined it.
Fair play.
Dangerous all the same. I wouldn't undervalue such sentiment being broadcast to the population.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine confirm that the Russian forces in Bucha, Irpin and Gostomel are cut off from supplies.
The Ukranians should be leaving behind poisoned goods in any stores they abandon. The Russians won't know whats safe and whats not. They'll slowly starve.
Is it really any different than the like of Fox in the states?
I mean, this lad even implied the invasion is not going as easy as they would like? To me, it's like watching some lad in a pub who's bitten off more than he can chew threatening to shoot everyone so can get out unscathed.
This lad even looks like a middle-aged apparatchik
Satellites detect them, whilst the numerous reconnaissance aircraft on Ukraine's border can determine the exact variety of borsht that caused it...
Seriously, the amount of ELINT, SIGINT and other reconnaissance capabilities involved in this is simply staggering, and most of it is deployed in broad daylight. Just today, I learned that the German Navy has deployed on of its "fleet service vessels" (read spy ship), FGS Alster, to keep an eye on Kaliningrad. By press release from Navy Command, no less! If it wasn't such a horrendous loss of human life, this would be a field day for military nerds like me, but there's just no way around the incredible amount of pain, anguish and suffering this war is causing. I just hope that this is over soon and that it will be the last major conflict in my lifetime!
We’ll all see through Putin. We’ll find out he’s just a Bengal lancer.

The Russian soldier surrendered to the Ukrainians and handed over the tank, said Viktor Andrusiv, adviser to the minister of internal affairs.
Ukrainian police have been identifying telephone numbers used by Russian soldiers in their country for weeks. They regularly sends SMS messages with suggestions to surrender and hand over the equipment. The news was answered by a Russian soldier.
He has received instructions from Ukrainian intelligence about a place where he can safely surrender. The drone made sure that it was not a Russian ambush and the services managed to stop it and seize the tank. The Russian said that the rest of the crew deserted and fled, and he saw no point in continuing the fight. He also said that there was no way to return home, because he was in danger of being shot, the command was in chaos, and he described the morale of the soldiers as fatal.
In exchange for surrender and handing over the equipment, he is to be detained in comfortable conditions until the end of the war, and after that he will receive 10,000 dollars and the possibility of applying for Ukrainian citizenship. It is also worth recalling that the Ukrainian arms concern Ukroboronprom promised a cash prize of $ 1 million for a stolen or captured Russian plane, and half a million - for a functioning helicopter.
Thought it interesting too that they were implying things weren't going so well in Ukraine, cue technical difficulties!
I'm old enough to remember the days of the US being energy independent. It was up till about 12 months ago when the Democrats came in and utterly destroyed that. They also ended the Cypriot/Israeli gas line to Europe because muh environment. Because the Democrats didn't want to piss Greta off. Utter shambles. Now they and the EU are going cap in hand to all the commie and Islamist dictators for energy.
