This is not the latest Harry versus William or Liverpool game News story. These are real people, being slaughtered and tortured. We won’t just roll over and forget. This will be a massive scar for Europe
NATO are 30 countries of teamplayers in case you missed it
China is shameless, if it turns a buck, quids in. The west kind of hops on and off moral boycott bandwagons, whatever's in fashion basically.
People in the western world have a very short memory span. Unlike posters on this site who can obsess about a subject indefinitely, many people that I know, who last week were talking incessantly about Ukraine, now barely mention the subject. As soon as the war ends, capitalists will move back into Russia. That's how capitalism works imo.
Yeah, the trolls haven't yet found a successful combination of weasel words, false dichotomies, whataboutery and deflection to make the whole thing about something else entirely and gradually sway public opinion away from Ukraine. They've been successful with smaller-scale outrages like the murder of George Floyd, but this is a f*cking war in Europe, which is, not to belittle Mr. Floyd's death, but it's orders of magnitude bigger. It's epoch-making stuff. We cannot turn away from it because of its close proximity to us, what its escalation could potentially mean for the whole world and social media covering it in more detail than even the most hard-hearted could bear to see it all. Bless the trolls' little grey hearts, they'll keep trying to undermine things. I only hope they're on the Kremlin payroll because if they're doing it of their own volition what sad, pathetic and hateful people they must be.
I do think the public across the EU in particular will eventually take a note of any MNCs still in Russia and working with the regime. To be honest as this continues, it will probably be taken out of their hands at some point by either Russian govt. itself booting them and robbing all their assets + giving it to Putin cronies or our own govts telling them to shut up shop. Like in Cold war there'll be a few slithery reptiles in the US/EU etc that will want to make money out of busting sanctions and dealing with Russia for profit in the shadows (see book: "The World for Sale") but Nestlé or similar is too big and too public to engage in that succesfully I'd say.
Just further confirmation of how two faced the Russian Position on the Ukraine actually is
Vladimir Putin (supposedly fighting Neo Nazis in Ukraine) - awarded Vladimir Zhoga (An Eastern Ukrainian Pro Russian Neo Nazi) - Hero Of the Russian Federation
In 10 years time there will be a third world country called Russia that depends on western technology and competence, like in the oil and gas industry and also why Russias production was cut to 1/3 of normal once western oil companies pulled out
That seems like a significant number.
Ah, you're an optimist. If the conflict ends tomorrow and in 6 months McDs goes back into Russia, you'll have about a dozen angry Twitter folk and that's it. Maybe a few tuts and even a shake of the head.
Probably 18-60 group?
MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan walks viewers through the life of Russian philosopher Ivan Ilyin and what his work reveals about the mindset of Vladimir Putin on his invasion of Ukraine.
For Ilyin, any talk about a Ukraine separate from Russia made one a mortal enemy of Russia. He disputed that an individual could choose their nationality any more than cells can decide whether they are part of a body.[1]: 23
Where putin gets his philosophy from? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_philosophy
Some one mentioned https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor will we see another famine in Ukraine because of this war?
Yes, I don't buy that the public will lose interest. A European country of 40m people being violently attacked and invaded by its neighbour is one of the biggest news events of the last few decades (it's arguably a much bigger story than the invasion of Kuwait in 1990 by Saddam Hussein, a country with one tenth of Ukraine's population).
I doubt nestle will learn anything this Easter. Twitter outrage doesn't really get replicated in real life. If all the cadburys eggs are gone how many people will say I'm not getting the nieces n nephews an egg as it's nestle - around 1% I reckon!
Perhaps not.
Speaking of companies .....Ben & Jerry's ...those foreign policy experts have been very silent on the Ukraine issue. They came out with a statement sort of blaming the US and being against troops and arms being sent to Ukraine, and then deleted it. Nothing since.
Shame because I look to them to lead the way on the nuances of foreign affairs...
Looks like Europe won't be following the US and UK's lead in banning oil unfortunately.
Somebody in their company must have realised that a banana and blueberry Neapolitan would sell like hotcakes.
I hope the Ukrainians give the Arab mercenaries absolute hell.
That is great news, hopefully they can keep the ground now.
On another note, I was thinking that on these maps they should change the Russian flag depicting where the Russian forces occupy and change it to a Z symbol instead. Let them b**tards own that Z symbol for the fascists they are....
This is the thing about dragging politics into other areas like sport.....or ice cream. It's far easier to be principled and have NO political gestures, than to only pick and choose the trendy ones and leave yourself open to criticism of double standards etc.
I feel bad that the Z symbol has been hijacked. It was always the coolest letter of the alphabet. Zorro, Pulp Fiction, sleep all seem tainted now........
Remember, the Neanderthals got bred out of existence and the Hawaiians were invaded and effectively destroyed by the US.
So while they might have had a grand old time of it soaking up the sun, shagging and eating fish, they weren't even remotely equipped for reality when it came knocking.
In fairness to the Neanderthals and Hawaiians, they weren't even aware of these realities to know to prepare for them, so you can hardly blame them for living so.
...and therefore not quite the pinnacle of evolution then.
