2022 ATP Tour
Qualies action should begin tomorrow (December 31st) so time to get the thread underway.
Here's to hoping we'll see some great tennis/storylines this year.
There's a few of those accounts who post almost the exact same thing word for word, I must try see if they're the same person. There can't be that many on here spouting the same sh*te!
Looking forward to the women's final more, should be a much more competitive match. Sakkari leads the h2h 3-1, but looking at the way Swiatek has played this week it's difficult to pick against her.
I'd be shocked if Fritz manages to pull off the upset against Nadal, but you never know.
Five games into the woman’s final at Indian wells and the fifth game was the first game with a hold of serve.
Make that five of six games. Swiatek leads 4-2 first set. The wind is causing issues.
Iga Swiatek takes the first set 6-4.
Uh oh
Bugger.
Not great to hear prior to a final.
Swiatek leads 2-1 in the second set and won the first set.
Swiatek now leads 4-1 in the second set.
Now 5-1.
Iga Swiatek wins in straight sets 6-4 6-1.
according to a tweet I’ve seen the tennis channel are no longer showing the mens final as up next.
Second big title on the bounce for Swiatek, having a brilliant year so far and up to #2 in the world. If she can take this form to the clay season then she'll be a big favourite at RG. Lots of tennis to be played before then though.
What does Maria Sakkari do though ? It’s one title in six finals I think now. Although, in fairness I don’t know what she could do today as Iga was playing superb stuff.
I’d say that fairly good alright.
Why would a tennis tournament make a trophy really heavy ?
Yes how dare anyone not love Nadal like I do .... it just couldn't be multiple people .. jesus christ, it's like a cult with you people...
Wtf 😂😂 Don't really like Nadal at all tbh, although I've developed something of a begrudging respect for him in recent years. I just think everyone's a bit tired of reading the same tripe from the same (possible re-reg) accounts over and over again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Fritz's ankle seem to be holding up ok with two breaks of serve at 5-2 and serving now for the set
Nadal's remaining follicles look like they might blow away in the breeze at times
It's Nadal who is going to retire it looks like
Pectoral muscle
He's starting the second set anyways
Lordy, Fritz hands Nadal his first defeat of the season. Nadal was obviously below par but Fritz outplayed him fair and square. Cue American tennis media now trying to talk up Fritz as a grand slam contender.
Fritz comes across as a bit too laid back to be overly concerned about grand slams
Dont forget the Monkey.😀
I found them amusing to be honest, a bit of banter.
Onto Miami now. Good to Fritz win. I was a bit surprised that both players played the final, considering the injuries both players had. I was looking at both players yesterday and was thinking I wouldn't mind getting a shot of what they get to be able to play like that with an injury. I remember something similar with Del Potro a couple of years ago playing a match in the US Open and he was sick as a dog for the first 2 sets and was given some tablets and he came back and won the next 3 sets.
I don't think we will be seeing Nadal or Fritz in Miami. Has anyone won both of these tournaments back to back?
Federer did it a few years back, Djokovic too. I haven't seen any of the final yet but a bit worrying for Nadal if he was having breathing difficulties after having covid at Christmas?
He did manage to win the AO since, so he can't be that badly affected?
Long Covid issues can present months after having and recovered from Covid
Fatigue is the most common complaint from Long Covid but breathing can be an issue also even if it's usually breathlessness that's experienced.
Djokovic has won IW and Miami in the same year 4 times
Very likely nothing to do with the "dreaded long Covid", but instead a pectoral muscle issue which was putting pressure on the rib cage. That's the speculation on Reddit tennis anyway..
Nadals breathing difficulties are from an injury to the people that he suffered during his match with Alcaraz. Seems when he takes a breath that the injury hurts. Nothing to do with covid or anything like that. He had the trainer on to treat this injury just after it occurred in the match with Alcaraz. If I remember correctly he did it when Alcaraz hit a drop shot and Nadal made it and then hit a forehand at an acute angle and that when he did it.
