...and/or Ukrainian drones or artillery are able to pinpoint the locations of their command posts/vehicles.
It was an underground storage so maybe that is all that they could use.
Bad news from Mykolaiv
Unfortunately the Polish are pushing for it and it could end up like the MiG situation. I have to say the Poles are head and shoulders above any other NATO member to cribble Russia.
What the west might call "overkill" is often Russian standard operating procedure. 😊
Also linked to the fact Goring was a well known morphine adict and intelligence was coming out of the cocktail of drugs Morrell had Hitler on.
It strikes me as a very expensive weapon to use on a low value target. It doesn't really fit with Putin getting upset at receiving the news that 8 'expensive' cruise missiles had been fired at an airport last week.
I work in a multinational with a wide spread of people from all over the world. It's very interesting (and a bit depressing) to hear the views of 'non-Western' colleagues who are at best ambivalent and at worst spouting Kremlin rhetoric.
One Chinese colleague bluntly stated 'they deserve it' (for wanting to join NATO). Indian colleagues have some weird lines on the conflict too, including lots of whataboutery-style stuff about Iraq and Afghanistan.
He did and he's a long term political appointee lackey of putin, so no shock there. Now a week later three Russian cosmonauts happen to show up to the ISS dressed in the colours of the Ukrainian flag with Russia's flag as a patch, clothes that had to be made to measure from scratch and approved for launch and likely in the last week. They needed agreement among themselves and agreement and support among their ground crew. And now very publicly too. That's huge IMHO.
Maybe their head's comments and threats were too much? Even in the depths of the Cold War there was a fraternity among astronauts and cosmonauts and that space exploration should be free from ground politics above the usual rhetoric. And it mostly was too. When the Americans beat the Russians to the moon, on one mission they left a little figurine to the fallen who had died in manned spaceflight, engraved with the names of the Soviet guys too. There were agreements that if any astronaut was in trouble and the "other side" could help, that help would be given no questions asked. That eejit threatening marooning a fellow astronaut in space and crashing the ISS would have gone down like a lead balloon.
They have been spinning the same propaganda for nearly a century now, reinforced by allies/fools in the West.
Mick Wallace isn't operating in a vacuum.
Not a good day yesterday for Ukraine. But that's how war goes.. Saw the aftermath from this late last night most were destroyed.
To be fair, the fact that the Baikonur launch facility and its support infrastructure are no longer in Russia probably helped a lot to pull this off. Russia is only leasing it from Kazakhstan until their own new Vostochny launch facility in the Russian Far East is fully operational.
As you rightly said @Wibbs that wasn’t a spur of the moment decision and very very deliberate. Good to see though and shows the Russian cosmonauts are above their boss and his stupid comments.
Hearing the opposite to be honest where I work, but they jettisoned the Chinese staff in my area a few years ago so can't comment on that.
That’s true that it was probably easier to do it but even still those cosmonauts do have to go home to Russia when they return to earth.
I'll lay bets now that this 'hypersonic' missile is anything but and is more Kremlin spin about a wonder weapon. Hypersonic is one thing and the Americans and Russians and British have been looking into it, with varying if disappointing success, at least publicly, but if this Russian missile isn't hype they've jumped ahead by decades and I don't buy it. Or the Americans have more advanced stuff.
double post
They have always had excellent rocket scientists
Blockades of that nature are considered acts of war, so I can't see widespread support.
Though a thought did occur... Maybe this isn't support for Ukraine, but more Russian spin along the lines of "Ukraine is our brother" stuff? Russian spin can be that crap after all.
No, fúckit! I'm sticking with optimism.
Sounds pretty much in keeping with the views of each countries leaders & media....
Ah don’t say that wibbs because now I’m thinking the same.
During the Kursk submarine disaster, putin held a conference on live tv with the wives of the sailors. One of them started going irate at him, so the kgb injected her with sedatives on live tv.
Yeah, and creating their own Putinesque PiS regime in the meantime...
Looks like they're also sending a shout out to South Korea, another country confronting a crazy totalitarian regime
I think the USA pissed off India massively by selling weapons to Pakistan that then found their way into contested areas in India. To India Russia and the USA may as well be gun shops posing as nations. China of course can cite its century of shame of exploitation by western nations, plus a border war with the USSR as another reason to not give a toss what happens Russia.
The thing about NATO membership is that this is a European war that requires a European response. It was really disappointing to see Biden carry over Trumps Chinese lab conspiracies, especially as China continues to struggle with the virus. Now Biden trying to shoehorn a China confrontation over Ukraine is deeply cynical considering China has from the outset supported Ukrainian territorial integrity.
I've even seen the counter conspiracy argument attacking Chinese support for Ukrainian integrity attacked as a ploy against the separatist ROC.
It seems like many players in the world are trying vainly to retrieve former dominant positions, Britain via Brexit tries to claim a former global importance, Russia via invasions trying to regain a global importance lost after the fall of the USSR, and the USA trying to retain its global supremacy by attacking China at every opportunity.
Edit to add, Russias aggression seems driven by domestic politics, as was Brexit, and the China bashing in the USA. All that means little though when set beside the creation of the RCEP.
Stop trying to normalise the Putin Govt. by stretching to bizarre comparison.
Polish government are populists nothing more....
We're talking of calls for a UN peacekeeping/ enforcing mission. Surely we'd sign up?
