Russia off their back, reparations and some type of non-aggression deal. Crimea became part of Ukraine as an edict in 1954 and for much of its history it was Russian but they could hold a real referendum there to see what people want. EU membership is not a big deal for Russia and it's probably a decade away anyway.
Agree with your sentiment, but be careful what you wish for. The Russians still have the capacity to really open up on the cities and Grozny them just purely out of spite for losing. Best to give them a slightly more 'dignified' exit to avoid that.
This platform doesn't allow outright deletions of posts. So I had replied, but edited it as I figured like before whatever point that was made you'd miss by a country mile in your desire for some misplaced catharsis.
Well so long as you're not following them for their political beliefs, I'm sure there are some.
Maybe Nigella Lawson has a poster of Hitler over her bed, but I'll still watch her stirring some soup.
people need to educate themselves on PiS.
if we think having a court system as a tool of state oppression and as a means for allowing state corruption, having public television as a means to spout PiS propaganda and attack Tusk’s party is something we want in the EU then my vision of the EU is very different to yours.
PiS have constant scandals that would bring down governments in Ireland within a couple of days.
Its clear the Russians are hurting now. They should try and bleed them white for a bit more and really send them packing. The West simply cannot let Putin get away with what he did. This is a once in a century chance to change the game in Russia. They can either continue on the same path with their strongmen, but live a life outside of International Free Trade and its markets, or it can change, reform and be part of the West. The old way of turning a blind eye should be gone.
You are only trying to stir the pot.
Some amount of top scalps taken in 3 weeks:-

If that comes to pass your last sentence is a near given.
😂 Not a shock mind you. Russia has more than her fair share of far right groups, which made putin's claim of denazifying Ukraine ring all the more hollow.
Correct you put it very succinctly , we can't have it both ways ,benefitting from all the wealth and FDI associated with the US and being members of the EU and at the same time clinging to deValera's neutrality like a child's suder.
DeValera was the architect of irish neutrality back in the 1930s but we were only just free from British imperialism and had reaped non of the benefits of the post war World order ,indeed ireland paid a price for this neutrality by being excluded from the post war economic boom, so yes we were neutral but we were also a rural backwater. Therefore we were excused our neutrality .
We are either european or we are not , we either pull our weight and back up the eastern border of the continent or we revert back to being a rural backwater and a British vassal state
Looks like offering Russia a "path paved with gold", aka making a deal with the devil is probably going to be the way forward. Grim, to "reward" the invaders, but might be reality to preserve Ukraine.
The US Administration are absolute windbags
I'd stir Nigellas pot anytime. Not sure about Lars now though.
It will be sickening if sanctions are just dropped like that and will show the West has no values at all beyond money. No way can Russia be allowed get off scot free for what they've done in Ukraine
That's the danger with making assumptions, especially in time of war, when there's so much disinformation around for the gullible to consume.
But we are not neutral. In that we do take sides. We are military bystanders, militarily neutral, which is not the same thing. And, tbh, our military contribution would make no difference anyway
Removing sanctions should be conditional on Putin disappearing and relinquishing all control. And not a Medvedev-type relinquishing.
+1000 I'd drop sanctions on stuff we need. Like gas and oil. For the moment. Move away from needing it from them in the next couple of years and kill their EU market for that stuff. I'd be doing similar with China. Pivot away from such reliance on them for basic stuff like medical supplies and the like. Move more maufacturing back within the EU. The less well off states in the EU would benefit hugely from this as would all the member states. I'd also be trying to wean ourselves off the need for the brand new, unrepairable and throwaway in our societies. That's more of a pipedream on my part mind you.
Lot of talk today about momentum in the peace negotiations.
I'd argue that the sanctions need to stay in place as long as Vlad is in charge.
Sadly, I think BigTech and Big Pharma have grown too used to massive profits over the years to even consider returning manufacturing to The West.
Really?
I mean, Ireland is a huge hub of manufacturing for both... So it can be done?
100% we shouldn't confuse a deal with Ukraine being the end.
This mad fųcker threatened a nuclear war. That won't be ignored.
There is no way the Ukrainians would willingly give up what Russia would want in Donbas.
Russia would want to nab Donetsk and right down to Mariupol.
Donetsk is major industrial centre with population of nearly a million and Mariupol has population of over 400,000 and is important industrial city as well.
Losing most of the Donbas would be effectively Ukraine losing most of it's heavy industry and mining.
Russia are not in any negotiations with the main countries that imposed the most damaging sanctions.
Crimea is overwhelmingly Russian. They can't govern it. It's also annexed and Russia are never giving it back. Not saying the original Crimean invasion was right by the way. But as a part of a war ending deal it makes sense.
A really desperate sign for Moscow here: Russia is pulling not only some of its own forces from South Ossetia to reinforce units in Ukraine, but even some South Ossetian units themselves are leaving for the front
You don't get it. Poland is on the verge of becoming next Russia or at least Belarus. It all depends if our judicial system will survive till next election. Otherwise we will become authoritarian country. World wouldn't be in such a mess atm, if they didn't allow Putin to destroy Russian fragile Democracy in the last 15 years.
As they allowed it to happen to Belarus only 2 years ago...
Not saying it can't be done. I don't have a lot of faith that it won't be done while labour is that much cheaper in other regeions..
