Savage rises. Summertime will help a bit but I wonder if prices will stay high or get back to reality by next Winter? I doubt it somehow. Going to be very hard on those just about paying the current bills.

Will we get more help from Government? It all looks very depressing between energy rises and fuel costs etc. I'm just going to try and pay a bit more over the Summer but I am fortunate that I can. Not everyone is in that position.

it's actually hilarious, the people who moan on these threads about Green policies not affecting the rich etc would be the first to oppose more socialist higher taxes the more you earn so that money could be better spread out among those less fortunate and among single mothers etc. because they tend to despise those kinds of people too.

Well it actually is. When bord gais froze their prices in September/October the press releases all said frozen until Spring 2022. I.e. they'll probably go up then! This was long before the govt subsidy was discussed.

Suggest you write a letter to your local elected Public representative, ie your T.D. and ask him to explain. Can tell you here and now you will not bet a reply. A chunk of your ESB bill, a sizeable chunk, goes to subsidise wind turbines. Incidentally, those ones near me are static since Sunday because surprise,surprise, there has been no wind.

Germany has just opened a giant coal-burning generating near Dortmund, that would dwarf Moneypoint in Co.Clare. This to make up for the electricity shortfall as they were forced to close down 3-4 of their smaller Nuclear power stations to appease Greta and her lunatic fringe. Expect huge dissent from there over the next few months as they are hugely dependent on Russia for gas supplies.

Carbon tax is a fixed amount, calculated per ton of CO2 generated, which does not change as the price of oil fluctuates. The evidence does not support the claim that the surge in prices at the pumps is being driven by carbon tax increases. Even without them we'd still be f*cked right now. Apparently some of it is being used to retrofit homes etc.

I don't see any reason why carbon taxes can't be removed given the rest of the Dail could vote in favour of this.

Why aren't the other parties blocking things like the stopping of LNG discovery? How come the Greens have so much power over everyone's lives if they're a tiny party who have been in a tiny bit of power for 5 minutes? Why does the electorate and the rest of the Government permit them to be dictators?

Well the Green Party are at the front of banning Ireland digging for its own LNG.

Hence we have to import it and are at the mercy of God knows who.

They tell us renewables is the way forward yet companies supplying electricity through renewable wind farms here have put their prices up the same as every other company today.

The ESB is a number of entities. Electric Ireland is the retail, ESB Networks manages the supply, sets prices and looks after the upkeep of the infrastructure, which is expensive.

Carbon taxes need to be dumped and VAT reduced or the a limit on how much VAT can be charged on energy. These "handouts" the government are giving on energy is a cod, every single increase the exchequer is taking in more in VAT.

So it was announced the last two power plants solely burning peat for power were to be closed in 2019. What has that got to do with the Greens? And were all of the wind turbines erected since 2020 when the Greens got in power?

Wish could switch to a supplier that offers a fixed rate for 12 months. I can't understand how prices can be increased continiously but then they can charge you fees if you want to break the contract because of the increases.
