Abramovich was on the scene in the time of Yeltsin. It was he who recommended that Putin be the person to succeed Yeltsin. Abramovich also recommended Medvedev be made president when Putin had to step down. He is a bigger player than he would like the public to believe.
Obviously he's going to start losing weight now, but it's a bit late.
Dammit, I was drinking a nice cuppa, now I have clean it all off my monitor! 🤣
Trump was not an idiot. Ignorant about many things, not a well-read man by all accounts and tenuous understanding of history & geography. But he's still smart in other ways. He's been successful in his life and that's hard to do when one is a total "idiot".
Good on that woman for protesting. She's getting criticism for being a part of the propoganda for so long but changes of opinion should never be unwelcome.
Isn't that what we are hoping from Putin's inner circle.
The main reason large numbers of people are travelling on to the rest of the EU is that Poland, Romania, Moldova etc simply haven't got the resources to accommodate 3m+ refugees, especially if the idea is to quickly try and get the refugees into work, education, receive good healthcare etc. The current EU dispersal idea (including tens of thousands coming to Ireland) seems the only sensible solution.
Trump was very much the useful idiot rather than accomplice, managed through stroking of ego combined with feeding of inherent biases.
Just as the Tucker Carlson's and remainder of the reactionary right remain useful idiots to the Kremlin spreading their rank conspiracies and both sides nonsense.
In a similar manner elements on the reactionary left also serve as useful idiots (see Mick Wallace / Claire Daly)
I'll assume your numbers are correct. I would say the chances of all of those being ready for action, is 0%. Their current losses of personnel aren't sustainable either.
He inherited hundreds of millions from his Dad and pissed most of it away including a disastrous casino in Atlantic City.

a useful list of high ranking Russians killed or captured in Ukraine
And nothing from you about the 95% that was in Russian???? Don't worry Comrade, most Russian's understand a bit of English....That message was well understood !!! And it is sending shockwaves throughout Russia.
Wasn't just Abramovic, it was the Russian elite of which Abramovic is a part of. There is nothing in Roman's history that shows he would approve of what Putin is doing. His mother is Ukrainian too. The fact that Putin hasn't changed course yet would suggest that either the Russian elite all approve of this war which is resulting in them being the most sanctioned country in history and having their assets seized - or Putin doesn't give two f*cks about what the likes of Abramovic think. I think it's the latter. Putin became more powerful than the elites and doesn't need them any longer.
Australia now putting a shoulder to the wheel..

Keep focused on Russia, though I suspect you are wanting to change the topic there Comrade.
Fair enough, I suppose it depends on scale in different places. I would think though that if a refugee has any links to a member state it would make sense to accommodate that so they can move somewhere with some support rather than somewhere more random.
Drop the Trump talk - he is a complete irrelevance to this discussion
He put Putin in power. Putin has made him rich. Unless he comes out and condemns Putin, he is part of it as far as I’m concerned (and, more importantly, as far as the British, US and EU governments are concerned). Absent an clearly opposing stance, he is complicit
Fact is most Russian Citizens are hurting under Putin as well, in every possible way. He has turned the state into a murderous mafia.
Just send Alf Stewart over to the Kremlin. He would have this sorted in no time.
I've read nothing to the effect but I wonder what behind the scenes moves are going on with the Five Eyes and Japan in the Pacific. Might be getting time for Japan to remilitarise a bit.
A thief and a murderer.
Ukrainian farmers are on the move with their tractors in Kherson - Russian tanks beware! 🤣
Reuters are reporting he is in Moscow, so that's not going to happen or he will have his jocks poisoned.
He will disappear, probably to some island once he consolidates his losses. He is letting the beard and hair grow out.
He was never really one for the limelight anyway.
Yes, and the results are already in....landslide win for Russian candidate!!! Surprise, surprise. ( and also no surprise winning candidate will have short life expectancy...as will his / her replacement(s).
Security trumps money. This is basic. Sorry, Russia is going to be frozen out within 1-2 years. He effectively declared war on Europe with his nuclear threat. It's game over for Putikins.
It's going to be an expensive forestry program if you consider they will require armed guards at every site.
I was reading about kadyrov supposedly joining the Russians in Ukraine. How much of a scumbag do you have to be , to be a proud Chechen apparently and go to independent Ukraine to terrorize the population on behalf of your oppressor Russia?
Indeed. One would be right to be a little skeptical though. A Kremlin mouthpiece suddenly having a complete change of heart? Seems unlikely tbh. While anti-war sentiment in Moscow is good to see I suspect there is more going on here. Media is tightly controlled, if someone with their finger on the button didn't want this to go out, it wouldn't have. That said it is often a mistake to assign to malice when it is as likely to have been incompetence.
It wouldn't at all surprise me if various factions are now emerging and coalescing within the Moscow power structure and this media group is now taking a slightly different direction from the Kremlin.
That said, palace intrigue is a side show for the moment at least. Whatever her motivation, it is good to see anti war statements making their way to the Russian mainstream (whatever way) which might start to ferment a change in policy.
Shades of the Holodmor all over again, except lumber instead of wheat this time
So why did most of the Germans greeting Ukrainian refugees at Berlin train station, holding up signs with offers of accomodation, have them written in English?
Those $1,500 Prada "combat" boots have to be paid for somehow.
