Does anybody know what's going on at Katie Reilly's on the tramore road?looks to be painted and cleaned up a bit.
theyve been working on that for a good while now, hopefully its reopening as something, awful waste as it is
Supposed to be reopening soon
Bit disappointing seeing that the new unit turned out to be a Remax office. What happened to the bakery?
true, was devestated to see Remax go in there-would have been an excellent spot for a bakery
Waterford actually has one of the highest amounts of units being built or for sale in the country
Really wish City Square would fill those big new units at the front that have been empty since they were built, just makes the whole place look awful. I know there's issues with extortionate rents, city square being sold etc, and I think the entire town knows the infamous H&M story but if they just got anything at all in there it would make Arundel Square look far less bleak.
Deise today had a interview during the week with businesses in the city, City Square manager spoke for a minute saying theres potentially a new store coming but wouldn't give any names, its not the Debenhams unit as he referred to that separately. Hopefully its a decent addition and its the new unit on Arundel Square. As mentioned here before its ideal for Zara, H&M or M&S.
Don't know about M&S. They're in the business of closing shops these days.
True but these stores are mostly in places that have a few stores in their city centres and in the UK. I think their Irish operations are performing ok given the conditions at the moment and with Brexit.
Anybody know if Whitfield house by kilmeaden is being turned into a hotel?
Hopefully the Walsh Park redevelopment will start soon
Hosting Limerick and Clare in the championship next year
Plans submitted for an extension to the retail park out where Harvey Norman is. Personally not a fan of these kind of retail parks as it just leads to more car dependence, and I'd rather see these shops in the empty city square units in town. Still good to see some expansion to Waterford's retail offering though.
On a related note
permission is looking for a sporting goods unit.
Butlerstown extension is for Decathlon as main tenant!
Now that would be brilliant. Surely Waterford is a no-brainer for Decathlon, they'd clean up with the Comeragh Mountains, beaches, & Greenway so close.
With the last census showing a 12.7% population increase in the city and strong job creation numbers hopefully we will be see more companies attracted here in the coming years.
Yes. But only for refugees
What is the purpose of this post?
Ahh, I was thinking it was you.
Same here.
I see The Exchange & The City Arms are up for sale.
Whoever would want to be purchasing one of these!
Waterford News & Star — City pubs up for sale - Waterford News & Star (waterford-news.ie)
plenty of opportunities for those buildings and locations, potential buyers could do nicely out of them
Other than what they are currently I suppose like a few others!
It will be interesting to see what becomes of them!
Just watching a docu' on Sean Quinn so we'll see what happens.
The Grand Hotel in Tramore will be auctioned in 2 weeks, prices mentioned were 2 million although realistic prices were more like 550,000 the showboat is also owned by the same owner hopefully that will be next to be done.
Brave person to buy that hotel, id say needs gutting and start again, thats about 3-4 million worth of work
There was a long running dereliction prosecution against the owner which concluded earlier this year. Everything has an appropriate price, but whoever buys it will need the requisite skills and resources to do something with this site.
It feels like there's a lack of hotel options in Waterford City and County, particularly at the higher end of the market. I don't think there's any hotel at all between Tramore and Dungarvan along the Copper Coast, and I think Tramore is definitely crying out for something new.
Massive shortage in quality hotels in the city and county. I know Waterford doesn't like to be compared to its neighbours to the north but the difference in quantity and quality of hotels between Waterford & KK is massive. Even Wexford probably has better options than Waterford between Whites, The Talbot, & The Ferrycarrig.
The exchange probably, not so sure about City Arms though. They were only in that location a couple of years and then some other place replaced them only to be closed down not long after as far as I'm aware.
functionality of buildings can be changed, they could be changed into other uses
The Wander Inn being a good example.
I don't expect them to remain as bars longterm.
