I must say I kind of enjoy Nick now, probably because I don't hear him every week. He's pretty forthright and honest which is not that common with golf or any sports commentators.
Mostly when he talks about his own career it's because the co-comm has specifically asked him something about it. Didn't like watching him as a player but he was a grinder and he for sure understands the game inside out.
I actually take some of his insight and apply it to my own game at times.
Far too much Faldo and Dougherty for me this week and not enough Beem or Laura Davies
I don't want to clog up the main thread but the TV coverage for the Ryder cup this year is without doubt the worst I've ever seen. And I've watched a LOT of golf.
Considering the scale of the event it can't be understated how piss poor it's been.
disgraceful so it is
What channel you watching as not seen Faldo once
McGinley going easy on Harrington. I’ve not heard him giving his opinion on pairings
That comment was about the Open coverage I believe
Absolutely sick of every time Europe win a hole we get a ‘you can feel the tide turning ever so slightly’
USA are 1/18 to win now - it’s over - wish they’d STFU
Same amount of tide turning as in Lake Michigan
(there is one but it's negligible)
Why are we constantly seeing shots of the f***ing lakes when there's 3 tight matches on the bloody course???
Butch "these fans need to calm down a little I don't like it"
Literally the next thing he says:
Butch "Can you imagine what it must feel like standing on these greens, it's fabulous"
McGinley declaring all evening Europe had to win this sesh at least 3-1 to have a chance. So there's absolutely no chance he'll be saying tomorrow morning "If Europe get off to a good start, you never know..."
Yeh, First European out tomorrow might win a hole and we’ll get the ‘well well well…’ from whomever is on
Jesus McGinley - when will a team never be ‘top heavy’ in the Singles.
Just shut up with the clichès
Whereas if they were "calling it as they see it" in the hoary accolade for the 'honest pundit', they'd be more like
12 matches on the course and half the coverage is of the boats on Lake Michigan. Atrocious
"The writing is on the wall here...looks like damage limitation for the Europeans. Even the ultimate company man P-Mac can't polish this turd...
Took him till 19:30 on the Sunday to finally say it which was ridic in itself. USA were 1/100 teeing off today.
Henni sounds like she's interviewing people outside a funeral home
I honestly can't handle Henni's long winded, rambling, repetitive questions.
When she is finally booted from Sky it will be a good day.
Henni continues to be the worst thing about Sky's coverage. She makes me want to change the channel any time she appears on screen.
She's pretty poor, what's going on with Sarah Stirk?
having a baby i think. or had one.
What are people's thoughts on Faxon as a commentator?
I think he's average enough, very rarely says anything interesting.
Maybe he's friendly with a lot of the players so feels like he can't give an honest opinion.
I'd much rather see someone like Jamie Spence or Gary Murphy given a chance, lads that call it as they see it.
And what's with every commentator saying how much better Rory's putting is, it's still ropey af
If Pete Cowen was in the box they'd be saying how he's finally sorted his wedges out!
I wonder would he have gotten the gig with Sky had he not been McIlroy's putting coach?
He seems like a nice fella in fairness but he bores me to tears.
Unfortunately we are in the days of gender quotas in sports broadcasting and not the best person doing the job.
I'm convinced the Sky lads are contractually obligated to pick a European winner anytime they make a prediction.
McGinley picked Casey earlier on, the same Casey that's never won anything of note in his entire career.
Your definition of what is noteworthy must be at some high level, just the 3 PGA Tour and 15 European Tour Wins for Casey.
None of his tour wins would be considered top tier events. It is what it is.
He was particularly unlucky here and didn't do a lot wrong.
Over his career though he's been on the first page of the leaderboard in multiple majors over the first 3 days and never found a way to get it done and that doesn't look like changing.
This one may have been different however, with a tap-in birdie or decent look at eagle on 16, he probably wouldn't have found a way to get over the line anyway, but we'll never know for sure and he has every right to feel aggrieved this morning and for the next while
