could the Russian tyrant (not using his name as it gives him too much respect) be deliberately drawing out this initial phase of the ‘cleansing / de-nazi boll0cks’ to give the world a false impression that his army and weapons are weak and that over the next couple of weeks he will send in his ‘A-team’ troops and tanks etc as well as chemical weapons and possibly some small scale ‘nukes’ also….to show the west and NATO what he is capable of thereby deterring them from getting into direct combat with him…?

if a cruise missile or bomb is dropped in Poland or some of the other bordering countries will it trigger direct retaliation….? If so the worst car scenario could easily commence….

given the megalomaniac the world is dealing with here it’s looking more likely that there is no way in hell that he eill retreat and agree to a cease fire. Last thing he will want to show us that he got things very wrong as again it will show weakness which doesn’t fit with his ‘super-hero / macho image ‘ wrestling bears in the wild and riding horses topless etc……

Interesting article from CBC earlier today re: a survey of leading economists on the economic consquences. Most agreed that the global economic fallout will be stagflationary:

Dozens of prominent economists were asked this week in a recurring survey run by the University of Chicago whether we're about to witness a ground-shifting economic event.

Those economists from Yale, MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Berkeley and Stanford were specifically asked whether this weaponization of dollar finance might lead to countries shifting away from the dollar as the dominant international currency.

Most confessed to not having an answer about where things go from here: 42 per cent said they didn't know, 16 per cent predicted a shift, and 28 per cent predicted no shift. Fourteen per cent had no opinion or did not answer.

There are rumours going around of larger than normal offloading of US and other countries sovereign debt this past week on the bond markets. No surprise at all to see some nations dropping payments made in certain currencies for oil and other things and requesting payments in Gold instead.

A collapse is far more likely. The ECB this week refused to raise interest rates from -.5% and will continue to print 40 Billion Euro's / month despite inflation rising now.

Absolutely and totally in no mans land. If they raise them certain nations will struggle big time, if they stop printing same again.

Earlier in the thread there were posts about Putin being furious 8 missiles were used to take out a low priority airfield ... they have 200 and replenishment challenging. So one reason might be... they thought the expendables could do the job and didnt want to risk / use up high value assets.

Those economists I mentioned a few posts back were asked to what extent they agreed with the statement "The fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine will be stagflationary in that it will noticeably reduce global growth and raise global inflation over the next year."

60% agreed. 9% strongly agreed. 19% were uncertain. 0% [sic] disagreed.

Most wars dont lead to economic collapse in the US for example, they usually have growth in their stock markets in double digits during war times, what makes this any different? apart from inflation of course

Seems a bit like Vietnam... tail end of which overlapped the 1970s oil crisis... inflation crisis.

    Quick google says:

Stagflation was prevalent among seven major market economies from 1973 to 1982.

You'd think Palestinians would be against one nation oppressing another since they know all about that, but on the other hand, Israel is backed by America and America traditionally does not like Russia, so Palestinians like Russia? Also, Hamas have a goal to liberate Palestine, and one backer of Hamas is Iran, who are fairly close to Russia, so again... Palestinians like Russia?

Fake news. Israel has come out and said that they won't be a haven for Oligarch money. However, they aren't going to sanction their own citizens. Abramovic and Fridman both have Israeli citizenship, so that's a non-starter. Just as if Abramovic was British I don't think the British government would have sanctioned him.

"And the area in which he was killed isn't currently under Russian control. Some speculate that he was killed by some trigger happy Ukrainian civilians or he undercover with the American government"

Ah you're off again. Well I'm surprised

You must have missed practically every news agency reporting that the reporter in question Brent Renaud, was shot and killed while reporting in Irpin, a suburb of the capital, Kyiv after coming under Russian fire while working there.

Irpin is one of several flashpoint close to Kyiv, which Russian forces are currently encircling and attacking. But oohhh nooo twas the "trigger happy Ukranians or he was one of those nasty CIA types!

Where the fuq do you get your news? The Kremlin?

Must of been something like that. Even if low priority airfield even that they used 8 missiles it was the right thing for them to do. Should of been doing that on all the airfields even the low priority airfields. Stop them being used by the Ukrainians. I'm also surprised they haven't targeted the rail lines in the west

Um, they do have a habit of being on the wrong side of history. Supporting Nazi Germany, Saddam's invasion of Kuwait, Lebanese civil war, trying to overthrow Jordan.

There are some mental gymnastics one has to do to see their point of view, but there's also something that concerns me and has for some time with regards to Palestinians. It's extreme narcissism and thinking they're unique in terms of their experiences. One should be able to judge Russia Vs Ukraine on its own merits without resorting to twisting yourself into a pretzel wondering how you can make it about Palestine.

Anyway, the same question will be asked of Israelis in the next few days so I'll post it when it comes out. There should be some Israeli-Russian perspectives which will be interesting to see where they fall. Will they stick with Mother Russia or twist?

Assuming their priority was low casualties... Russia takes a different view of the value of a fighter jet or missile they have limited quantities of to Western armies.

Also at the outset I think they had a shock and awe coup in mind rather than coming up against determined resistance. So now gears have shifted.

Not many wars happen with an economy 70 trillion dollars in debt though. Eventually at some point interest rates have to rise fast, it is impossible to escape it, it is economics.

The tactic during Stalingrad was to pour in just the right amount of troops to keep the Germans constantly on their toes and defend the area close to the river. The Red Army soldiers would last about 24 hours before death and they would replenish them at just the right amount.

All of this was to wear down the Germans before the famoussuper offensive, when they poured the lot in. Or the A-Team.

Russia seem to have been throwing in the conscripts, new recruits, mercenaries and I have seen prisoners even being mentioned.

The A-Team are still sitting in the base waiting to be called upon. Along with the back up plan of the Belerussians.

But without doubt, they are losing a lot of vehicles and weaponry. Way more than they thought they would have.
