Spring thread open for business.
I predict there will be lightning...
NOW!
Ah crap.
Some nice flashes off lightning off the Mayo coast now
Lightning registering near New Ross
Big flash and rumble of thunder just now in East Cork, looking at the radar seems to be from a cell over Ardmore
I head a loud bang/rumbling here in Kilkenny and this confirms its thundery...
Thought I saw a flash (wasn’t really paying attention) and long rumble. Nothing much on the lightning radar
Activity off Ballycotton
3 rumbles over west Athlone in the last few minutes. Torrential rain and the power is waivering in the house
Lightning flashes every minute or two in West Offaly, maybe south Longford. Viewable from north Kildare
Loads of activity around Ferbane. Seems to be a line forming from Durrow to Athleague
Power check reporting a fault at 21.47 outside Birr. I'm in Roscommon and very rapid rumbles the last 20 minutes, lights are flickering a lot
Heading outside to see if I can see anything lighting up over offaly direction
Some flashes and rumbles over ballinasloe now as well
Defo hearing rumbles near Moate
Lightning
Distant lightning from Kildare
Yup, thunder and lightning over Athlone, fryckened the shike outta me!
Had 6 bright flashes and loud booms south of the town and as soon as I took the phone out to get some videos, it stopped. I'd be still waiting except we're getting hit with hailstones now lol. Cell must be right on top of me 😆
this storm is worthy of a name (Cork)
West Offaly. About half an hour ago the first flash was accompanied by a huge rumble of thunder instantaneously. The lights flicked off and on.
Within in seconds a torrential downpour came out of nowhere with hail.
In the next minute two more bright flashes with thunder, and the power got knocked out.
Over the following 10 minutes s few more flashes from further away.
Its a long time since i seen one like this here. Was in florida a few years back and had one like it that came with a tornado that touched down about 10km from me.
Rain is absolutely biblical in Dublin 4. Heaviest I've ever heard it. Accompanied with gusts
Sure looks heavy on the radar and quite localised as it moves slowly north.
Another burst now in D4, I was outside for the first one, it was like fog and set off alarms.
Very strange that this seems to have built over the Wicklow mountains, usually they protect South Dublin from the rain...
Southeast winds, orographic lift. South Dublin usually gets drenched in these kind of set ups.
The precipitation movement looked directly from the South, started properly building between Wicklow town/Rathdrum and went straight up...
Yes, the SE usually dump a load of moisture, this one was different to the usual. The first burst I'd expect on the seafront in a bad storm.
Wow, that's fantastic. I was looking forward to the ensuing thunder from that but alas, it's audio free :-(
Only a few strikes recorded yesterday, had a big hail shower in Tralee yesterday morning, left the place white for a brief moment, just had another hail showier a short time ago . Good spells of sunshine and some fine convection to be seen this morning. Chance of a few isolated thunderstorms again today perhaps.
Rumbles of Thunder over Carlow Town in the past few minutes. A few hail showers also.
Another long one just now!
Lightning and thunder in Greystones. Quite close!
And another flash/bang.
