Cut it out, the pair of you
I know in that clip everything could be exaggerated, but I still imagine their are massive numbers in the city willing to fight it out for a very long time, and with quite a large stash of advanced weaponry that came in from over the border from NATO / western countries.
It is hard to see how Russian forces are going to be able to take Kyiv, well not for a very long time anyway, unless they do just turn to mass indiscriminate shelling and level the the entire place.
Luckily for every citizen of Europe, that is never going to happen.
I think you've got it there with your last sentence. Chemical weapons allow them to nuke the place without nuking the place.
Zelenskyy put it perfectly “If you want to know what russia is planning on doing next, they usually accuse others of planning to do what they are going to do”… 😂
He is just to quick for Vlad.. It’s remarkable how stupid the Russians think people are , I think it’s possibly because they can’t hide in the shadows, everybody is looking right at them. This “reveal Russian plans before they do it” is a master stroke from The Americans, it’s totally neutered Russias bullsh*t
Anything is possible in the current situation ,it's not as if you personally know putin
Ukrainian police and Territorial Defense unit detained eight Russian servicemen near Romny, Sumy Region. And Liam Gallagher.
Why on earth would Russia want to use chemical weapons in Ukraine, as if the whole world doesn't hate them enough.
I just really hope you are wrong on that one, but the shenanigans they are playing with trying to accuse Ukraine and the US of developing them is very worrying.
There was a contributor on SKY News earlier on saying that Putin never sees concession to threats as something which deescalates. He just sees it as weakness. In the face of concessions he sees as weakness, he doesn't really back off until he completes his objective, whatever that may be. In this case, it is looking to be that he takes the whole of Ukraine.
The flip side of putting it up to Putin in this instance is that we don't know how far Putin is willing to go. This is the problem. There is absolutely no margin for error. If the nukes start flying, that's pretty much it.
I think Putin feels like his country is on the losing end of the current world order and so he and his country have less to lose than the West by playing inside the traditional rules of the geopolitical chess game we've had going since the end of the second world war. That's what is so dangerous about him right now.
I do have sympathy for the simple Russian soldiers, its just I have more sympathy for Ukrainians. Such a shît show.
If you believe Ronald McDonald does good things for kids, or that Rolex really cares, then your world view on life is seriously fcked up.
My worldview is indeed seriously fúcked up, mostly from too much recreational drug use in my youth, so you got me there.
However, earlier in the thread I suggested one reason McDonalds are to keep paying their Russian workers is less about being nice and more that they figure it's worth paying trained staff to man the tills because this will be over soon and business as usual will require them. Cynic? Moi?
As for Rolex I simply stated the fact that at that time alone among the Swiss watch brands they refused to supply Axis forces from day one. Why? Mostly because their founder was an anglophile who started the company in London, his wife was from Irish stock and his brand was almost exclusively one of the British empire of the time so he pinned his colours to their mast. And he had seen the rise of hitler as a Very Bad Thing. He even supplied British POW's with watches on tick.
That was from a time when founders/owners of large businesses were much more a thing and could impart personal opinions on brands for good and ill(often the latter. QV Henry Ford, a total cúnt). Rolex today? Money hounds like most of them. In Switzerland they're registered as a 'charitable foundation', to keep their books closed in such a Swiss way and to give the impression of wider goodwill. It's mostly bollocks.
That's my worldview.
They are already doing heavy indiscriminate shelling of other cities (mainly) - if you can't beat them from the ground you try to annihilate them from the air
But every day this goes on the weaker Russia becomes and is seen to be which must be really pissing off Putin - this what many think is a powerhouse of a country can barely make inroads on a small country is showing up Russia.
Hell why do they need to recruit fighters from other countries to try and help them win this war?
Seeing the battles and how easy the Russians are being beaten makes me start to wonder how capable even is their nuclear arsenal?
Because they want to win, their soldiers are not that willing to fight.
It's not like Russia give a shi7 what others think.
I’m not happy about how the war of words played out earlier in this war either- I do thing EU and NATO leaders were asleep at the wheel- I mean nearly 150k Russian troops surrounding Ukraine in January- like WTF did you think would happen??
@fritzelly
Good question, but not one I'm in a hurry to see a practical answer to.
Do you really think no one knew what was on the horizon? What can you do? Pre-empt the situation?
Sorry my “if you think” statement wasn’t directed at Wibbs” per se, especially since I mentioned McDonaldz which you didn’t mention- I just went on a rant as I’m pizzed off and want to give Putin a slow death venereal disease 😂
Edit- didn’t see your earlier McD quote but yes totally agree
Yea it seems that way with the indiscriminate shelling, but the size and population of Kyiv is on another scale and if they do go down that route its going to be horrific, well on a whole new horrific level to what they have done so far.
Hopefully something changes between now and then that may change that outcome.
I mean the power held in the nuclear card is proportional to people's belief you'll actually use one.
If Putin used a nuclear weapon of some description then the likelihood of him using another one must be much higher than many believe right now; no?
If Russia didn't give a **** they would carpet bomb Kyiv. They don't want to go the American route and utterly destroy countries and have to rebuild them again, it doesn't work as we have seen in recent years in Iraq and Libya. The Neo Nazi fascist element in Ukraine certainly would use them to try and draw NATO into a conflict with Russia this is the big danger.
It was a question I originally asked.
"Aren't the Germans still buying €1.1 billion worth of gas every day from Russia?"
The answer was no.
But Europe are still buying €1.1 billion per day of energy from Russia.
"Nearly a billion euros ($1.1 billion) are being poured into (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's war chests every day, thwarting our sanctions against the Russian central bank"
Europe spends as much as $1 billion a day to pay for coal, gas and oil imported from Russia — indirectly funding the war machine that’s rolling through Ukraine.
You know where you can stick your abacus!
Indeed, and I will continue to.
Putin's oligarch inner ring cohorts who all got super super rich and Russian Mafia must be rightly pished off with him at this stage when they cannot enjoy the trappings of their ill gotten wealth. I wouldn't bet against the corruption turning on Putin. I'm sure they don't give 2 fcks about grabbing Ukraine. They have everything to lose and absolutely nothing to gain with the war continuing.......
Russia has a long history of carpet bombing and deliberately targeting civilians.
I suppose, but it would depend on the type and the context of how it was deployed.
Actual madness that this is even a valid conversation all the same.
I responded to a comment about NATO declaring war on Russia, I wouldn't need to know Putin to know that is never going to happen. Ukraine is just a pawn to get at Russia NATO care nothing for the innocent Ukrainians caught up in this conflict.
There idiots that's why , another death cult
You spelled America incorrectly.
They literally warned everyone it was about to happen, not much they could do about it, sending in troops wouldn't have been an option.
Is that the best you can muster?
