Looking at the amount of Russian tanks getting absolutely pummelled by the brave Ukrainian resistance, what happened to the much vaunted Arena active protection system for tanks? I've not seen any sign of its use at all. It's supposed to protect the tanks from RPGs and the like.
Have the Russians been bullshitting about their capabilities for all these decades and are just a 3rd world military power?
Biden is too scared to OK the deal for Poland to give Migs to Ukraine, due to abject terror of providing a pretext for escallation, but you think he has US boots on the ground in Ukraine? No he doesn't.

If he does go chemical then he is fooked when word breaks out back home as there are close links between Russians and Ukrainians.
If he goes tactical nuke he is totally on his own as China and India will be forced to distance themselves from him.

Well on paper they probably did roll out the system, but in reality a fair chunk of the funding probably went through their bank in Cyprus and was used at the Super Yacht show in Monaco. 😉
Time and again we find out that very corrupt, despotic regimes are build on a foundation of sand.
The ones at the top have to cream off a certain amount, and the ones that ensure they stay in place have to cream off some more.
And eventually even the ones at the bottom cream off a tiny amount because it is the only way they make a few quid and they see everyone else doing it anyway.

It's bizarre though when you look at the propaganda (including some of it that's spilling in here from time to time.) They seem to think they should be able to just invade their next-door neighbour with a huge army, bombs, aircraft, tanks, murder people left right and centre and if they dare defend themselves or even say no, somehow the Russians are the victim.
Meanwhile you've various people throwing their toys (literally - iPhones etc) out of their pram in Russia itself for social media ranting purposes.
It's by far and away the most bonkers and blatant use of propaganda I've ever seen in a conflict. I think though they've entered the uncanny valley of PR though where it's not just cartoonish and unbelievable and most people can see it for what it is.
I'm not expecting anything much in the way of protests for the moment. A possible game changer would be if Russia defaulted on its debts and the economy crashed overnight but probably nothing much in the meantime.

Ahaha. Honestly I was expecting this high tech assault on Ukraine. Not to minimise what they're going through, but I mean a Russian drone just got shot down and it's from the 80s. They're using 80s tech for their drones. Even their best tanks are getting cooked. Absolute shambles.
Like a lot of their stuff it appears in propaganda videos but thats about it ,it's like looking to India to help pay to develop their new not so stealth fighters

Its because all these wonder weapons are bullshit or optics to roll out on parade.
We're seeing the real Russian forces in action in Ukraine. Outdated, badly maintained and poorly trained troops. Even their so called elite troops engaged like headless chickens. They're great at killing civilians but if they come up against any serious opposition they fall to pieces.
Watching released Ukrainian drone footage from a couple days ago where a Russian tank column bunched together when they were being hit by drones shows how badly prepared and trained they are. Apparently a senior tank commander was killed during that engagement along with 6 tanks with others being abandoned and captured.
You were talking about a Russian missile attack on Ireland having to travel across European countries first, no doubt hoping they will shoot it down for us.

Yes but would they jump the gun and get involved now? Taking in a lot of refugees, Polish public opinion hostile towards Russia. I'm thinking they'd need to disengage from NATO first. No idea what the process for that is but one assumes that it's not quite like Brexit and might only need an executive order from the Polish government.

I saw that video. Complete clown show. It look like some were trying to reverse, others going forward almost hitting each other. All these decades we were afraid of the Russian bear...turns out it's a Koala. Actually they're cute, so not a good comparison.

Saddam's army on paper was massive.
But it turns out they were cr**, full of poor kids that didn't want to fight, hence with very poor morale.
Oh yeah the Republican Guard were not bad, but that was because they were the ones looked after to keep old Sadam in power.
Same thing happened with Argentinians in Falklands.
One of the few times in recent history (last hundred years) where an army of a despotic led state really battled well was the German Army in WW2.
Italians were cr** and Soviets weren't much better for long chunks of it and thus had to fling millions at it to achieve anything.
And a lot of that was due to leadership on the ground, good training, good equipment and sadly a huge believe in what they were fighting for.
Add in the massive level of corruption in Russia over the last few decades and it ultimately only makes for one thing, failure to prepare.
