Sinn Féin wipes years of media statements from website - Independent.ie
they seem to fear the consequences for the next election when their old friends lose the war in Ukraine
A more correct headline would be Sinn Fein calls for reduction in carbon tax.
'Martin misleads Dail over home heating oil', says the headline in this morning's Times Ireland.
This confirms that there is no excise duty on home heating oil... the keyword there is excise duty.!!
No idea where "the ditch" have pulled that from, but Mineral Oil Tax (MOT) is comprised of excise duty and carbon tax. For home heating oil, excise duty is 0 so all the MOT is Carbon Tax.
The confusion the last few days over it has been weird.
Another swing and a miss from pirate flag Paddy. At least he is not targeting nurses this time.
on the heating, I'd believe the Revenue Commissioners. I await the apologies from certain posters

In their rush to get their populist idea out there before the government decision that they knew was coming, they got their facts completely wrong.
Idiotic is the best word to describe their antics.
Not just Pearse - Mary Lou also calling for reducing excise on home heating oil from Nil to ????
Maybe she meant the carbon tax - but doesn’t fully understand the difference ?
Exactly the sort of person you want in charge of the national finances 🙄 just look at that attention to detail on show.
Sorry this went into the wrong forum.
Interesting insight into the populist nature of Sinn Fein and why any party should be wary of entering coalition with them - they wouldn't even back their own Minister.
Hilarious!
Ah I was wondering why Marylou was banging don about fuel prices yesterday. The Taoiseach said during leaders questions that the government where looking at the issue. Once again the Shinner bots will fall hook line and sinker for this
I would love to know how much property SF own in Russia.
Do SF (Northern Branch) own any property in Russia? Hearing rumours that Russia is part of their international property portfolio.
Vote for a rent decrease because they know it won't pass.... Then it passes and then they block it.
It's usually now when SF supporters try to tell us there is two separate Sinn Feins. SF Ireland and SF UK who got that money from the will.
This is quickly turning into a conspiracy theory thread in my opinion. Sinn Fein are questioning Russian use of the IFSC and getting no replies. Does that worry you?
Read the post and please don’t try to attribute intentions to me that I did not imply.
I do not want to drag this thread off topic.
This is Sinn Fein at their best. One week they vote for a 10% cut in rents, thinking it wouldn't pass, when caught out by DUP abstentions, they reversed their vote the following week.
What complete hypocrisy. Not only are they doing a u-turn, they are doing a u-turn to help landlords.
Does anyone believe anything that they say now?
So you want Ireland to impose more sanctions than the EU, well take that to the government thread.
This is about Sinn Fein and as another poster has pointed out, Sinn Fein are nowhere to be seen on this issue, about the only protest they don't show their face at. They have a history of collaborating with tyrants like Maduro, Putin and Castro.
Was outside the Russian Embassy at a protest at the weekend. Wasn't familiar with the leafy Orwell Road previously and was curious to see the area Mary Lou grew up in. I spoke to a couple of locals and was surprised that their accents were so different to Mary Lou's.
I thought she might make a return visit to her homeplace but there was no visible SF presence. Surprising, given their prominence at every other protest going. Perhaps they feel they should observe a decent period of purdah after their very recent U-turn on team Putin.
Seems the Ukraine protests are the only protests in recent memory that Mary Lou hasn't ensured she is front and centre at.
So wait.... Careful with the sanctions but plough on with military alliances?
No applying Irish sanctions. Why not apply their own? "While there will be no specific sanctions directly targeting the flow of Russian capital through the IFSC, Mr Coveney said they will be linked to “broader financial services, banking and individual oligarchs”." https://m.independent.ie/news/flow-of-russian-money-through-irish-financial-institutions-will-be-targeted-and-interrupted-by-sanctions-coveney-41374730.html
The EU as I think is right want to approach sanctions in a co-ordinated controlled manner.
The Govt have explained this many many times.
Taking a ‘scattergun random approach ‘ as seems to be advocated by the opposition of various hues is
of very limited value.
It merely makes things worse.
So, again I ask, are you accusing the government of not applying the EU sanctions?
I'm suggesting they're not applying what they can before talk of joining military allicances. France has taken control the assets of oligarchs yet we're allowing their companies to trade as usual in the IFSC. Why not disclose the extend of Russia involvement in the IFSC? Methinks there's serious projection going on with the finger pointing at SF.
I am certain that the government are applying all EU and UN sanctions. Are you suggesting that they aren't?
Or are you suggesting (as this is the Sinn Fein thread) that Sinn Fein would apply more sanctions than the EU to their friend Putin?
It was, it just wasn't the answer she wanted.
She asked in the dail. It was not answered.
