I don't think they've ever dropped paratroopers into a hostile country. It's one thing dropping them into a communist european country in the 80s to help prop up a friendly administration against protestors. It's another thing entirely to drop into a country where every citizen, even the Russian speakers, hate you and want to kill you.

They can't get out because they have nothing to show thus far other than thousands of dead Russian soldiers, 10% of their battle materiel destroyed and Ukraine's government and people still standing strong.
