Jesus Christ…you actually talked about “Final solution”. You both sides crew really are brainwashed
Russia isn't a particularly big market for anyone. Their economy is only 3 times bigger than Ireland. Pathetic, really, so long after the fall of communism. And way behind the republics that won their freedom from Russia.
In a war with NATO forces all they would have left after a couple of days would be their nuclear button option. They'd be utterly and completely routed. This 'special military operation' has proven that to the world once and for all.
Of interest at the moment:
There are currently 3 x KC46 refueling aircraft leaving Alaska, tracking down the Russian coast, probably heading for Japan.
These are the replacement aircraft for the venerable KC-135.
Japan seems to be getting all of their orders at once!
Russia must be watching this encompassing buildup with consternation
Interesting article in the Financial Times:
"Russia’s techies flee country they fear is ‘flying into an abyss’
I cannot link it as it may show up under a paywall
I'm not a football fan at the best of times, but I've never felt so disgusted by footfall fans today for arguing how Chelsea supporters will be put out if sanctions against Abramovich may affect their beloved football club. Because you know, the mindset of a football fan, is nothing is more important that football, and who really cares about some trivial invasion that has lead to millions of people flee their own country, no mind the deaths that have ensued.
Assad, with the help of Russia, laid siege to towns and cities in Syria and was shelling/barrel bombing them at the same time. Nothing went in or out. The people that managed to survive surrendered in the end. The Russians are going to do it to Kyiv, trying to destroy it without having to fight in the streets. Rather than setting up ambushes on street corners etc, Ukrainians should be focussing on not allowing the encirclement. There's no point in having their snipers and ATGM crews deep within Kiyv if the Russians aren't going to enter the city centre.
Imagine a country being attacked trying to disrupt airfields the attackers are using. How awful of them. Exact same as bombing hospitals and levelling civilian population centres.
But but but both sides….
They don't want NATO ,
Remember 3 days is all it was going take the whole of Ukraine and install Viktor Yanukovych as president again ....
Day 15 and Russia controls some roads ,and you think they are holding back for nato ,
They are going to turn into North Korea - to prevent a complete brain drain, they may end up imprisoning their entire population within Russia again just like the good old days.
That's a good tactic from the Ukrainians IMHO. Large scale counter attacks would be extremely risky. Better to bring the rat to the trap than chase after it in the open. Keep picking at it, keep it always on the alert and getting more and more tired and rattled. Death by a thousand cuts and onto the next rat.
@Timing belt
Russia have been planning this for the past 7/8 years
You wouldn't know it...
By not accepting @Hobgoblin11’s baseless assertions you are now opening yourself up for carpet bombing of your house. It’s the accepted way
The deficiencies of the Russian military on display since the start is hard to take in.
Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are not material to most brands.
Information on this is based on a variety of sources. Assessments by various countries, some of which have reliable intel (spy satellites, communications intercepts, etc). Then there are independent outlets, analysts, thinktanks, monitors. Then there are the news agencies and reporters in the field. Finally there are Ukrainian outlets which are obviously not the best sources for certain information (tendency to exaggerate figures, downplay losses), and Russian outlets with their heavy state controls are not worth much except for certain confirmations.
Twitter is simply a medium for updates on all that info.
Obviously a e.g. Russian source doesn't carry the same weight as something with multiple videos from credible sources. Everything has to be taken within context, and during a war it goes without saying that information is harder to verify.
I rely on around a half dozen different news feeds for this (e.g. BBC, Guardian, etc). But they often don't capture the smaller info, which is why Twitter can be good for these more granular details (e.g. a convoy ambushed with video footage or an announcement by a particular company that it's pulling out of Russia)
A Russian brain-drain will give a nice boost to economic collapse.
already 1000's gone to Finland who didn't want to go to the alternative, Armenia.
From what I've seen so far I think Ukraine will win this war if they are armed sufficiently.
The Russian military effort so far has been pathetic. The only way they can win is by mass genocide, though nobody should be in any doubt that the Russians are capable of this - the Russians have no morals.
But Ukraine are not defending their house. They are defending their country. Wars of aggression like Russia is waging here have a very poor history in terms of success.
“I won’t believe my eyes because mr Lavrov is a stand up guy who never lies”
Apparently there's some cracking deals on second hand Russian anti aircraft weaponry available on the Internet atm. Not sure it could be trusted to work though 🤔
I don't think Russia can "take" Kyiv as such, that window seems to have closed. Perhaps attempt to target water, power, supply lines and then level it like Grozny over a period of months. Which is certainly not the conflict Putin expected.
On the football side, this in Man City and Newcastle within 10 years.
Absolutely, currently that's the way things are going. The Ru military is very artillery heavy. Around Kharkiv, both sides are digging in for a long one. Drones seem like they are already playing a very key part, probably more so as this goes on.
You're just desperate to be offended.
Orders of what? KC46s?
*which raises questions too of course. Why aren't we seeing Russian successes? Surely they'd want that for the spin for their own side at home? No doubt they'd 'explain' that away as "well it's not really a war y'know Komrade", but it could also be because in close in fighting they have few enough examples of success and most of their successes have been from stand off distance weapons like artillery, bombs and rockets that aren't easy to film as propaganda and would open them up to even more calls of atrocities.
A major problem for Russia was that they have framed the invasion of Ukraine as "not an invasion" - Lavrov repeated the same nonsense today. The tv footage they were sending home was staged cultural exchanges, with music, dancing and flowers.
The body armor their soldiers are wearing is cardboard and the same goes for the additional 'plating' on the tanks. It's no wonder they have been shelling the urban areas, they have absolutely no chance of achieving a victory in a conventional fight.
Ukraine might be best served by drawing the Russian forces as close a possible to Kiev and then hitting them. There's no point in falling back quickly, a slow but steady retreat to keep the Russian forces in the hunt will serve them better. The Russian forces are off script but still telling Moscow that everything is going to plan, it's a recipe for disaster.
If Putin and his boys are overthrown, would they roll back ALL sanctions? I'm guessing they'd reverse the most severe ones like swift payments and oil & gas bans, but I imagine they'll still be made to suffer long into the future for the actions of putin?
Apologies, yes. First orders were made in 2017.
You are desperate to confuse pity at the absolute egregious levels of wilful idiocy on display with offence. Based on what I read here these people are still waiting on their cheques from that friendly Nigerian Prince
