This isn't a change of government, this is an existential threat. Any Russian influence in government will lead to an increase in the speed of the descent of Ukraine going forward as well. A country bordering Russia with a heavily militarised border (on the Russian side), not allowed to have an army, not allowed join NATO, not allowed join the EU, most of the coast annexed to Russia etc., it looks to me, and it's understandable, that the Ukrainians have no interest in that and would rather fight to the last man than have their country periodically raped and pillaged by the goons in the Kremlin.

The more I read the more convinced I am of what I though last week, Putin will keep going til he can destroy Ukraine as much as possible. Whether that's turning everything to dust or accepting a surrender and running the people out of the country depends on how things pan out.

There's no question that Russia is FAR WORSE than the West when it comes to freedom of the press, state-sponsored propaganda etc.
However Ukraine is not the West, they are similar to Russia in terms of corruption, jailing journalists, jailing political opponents etc. The main difference is Russia is completely crap at lying, whereas Ukraine have adopted a polished Western-style PR campaign with memes, misrepresented videos, movie-style speeches, etc.
The information coming out of Ukraine is approximately as unreliable as the information coming out of Russia. People are just eating it up, without any attempt to fact-check or even apply common sense to it. We have blocked the majority of media from Russia so we're getting a one-sided disinformation campaign and just gobbling it up.
I happen to think that until Russia ceases fire and gets out of Ukraine that yes we should discount anything pro Russian! The tyrant and his regime have thought carefully about what they were going to do and knew the consequences in terms of Ukraine men women and children being slaughtered + their own military and yet went ahead. So no I'm not interested in anything pro Russian until they get rid of putin.
I think one thing your missing is not just that Russia are lying ongoing. They have lied consistently for a long time about everything. Why should their news sources be indulged to spew their **** everywhere?

But just because you don't want to hear/aren't interested in hearing anything pro-russian, doesn't mean others aren't. Making channels like RT less available to people who may be interested in hearing it, is, in my opinion, counter productive.
We all know that propaganda is used on both sides. Stifling one side's just because you agree with the opposite side, isn't a good idea in my opinion.
There has been a large independent news media contingent covering this criminal war.
It hasn't invaded Ukraine. It is performing a military operation in Ukraine.
