I dunno, I can't not smile any time I think about this.
Watching the videos in the aftermath of the attack yesterday was absolutely sickening.
This morning, Gerashchenko gave an update to say that 3 people died in the attack including a little girl.
Clunky?
There is a place in Galway called Muckanaghederdauhaulia.
It translates into “ridge shaped like a pig's back between two expanses of briny water”
We will get over it.
Avoid it for about 10,000 years.
Unviable Kiev regime.
Democratically elected government
I hope social media companies follow suit and remove access for Russia including government , embassy and state owned entities
Very unlikely: these viper dens are heavily invested with espionage based infrastructure that takes considerable time and effort to install, like faraday cage rooms or the entire structure being made one. It likely takes years to fit an 'embassy' building out for intelligence gathering.
"The sprawling complex on Orwell Road in south Dublin has been used as a major base for Russian intelligence for years, particularly in the area of communications interceptions.
...
Sources point to the relatively large number of diplomatic staff registered as working in the embassy as evidence of Russian espionage activities.
There are currently 31 staff known to be working in the embassy. This is more than many other European countries’ Dublin embassies including the UK (22), Poland (10), Germany (12) and France (19)." https://www.irishtimes.com/news/ireland/irish-news/russia-still-plans-to-extend-dublin-embassy-s-espionage-role-say-experts-1.4814532
It's unfathomable to me why this spy base is still allowed to operate and hasn't been shut down.
Surely the biggest irony ever is that the Russian Embassy in Ireland is on Orwell Road - as in the guy who wrote 1984. As far as I can see that really can't be beaten.
They should at least put the fact check links on their tweets like they did with the orange one who was temporarily living in Washington DC.
What do you think about the Bobby Sands Burger Bar in Tehran? Does that make you smile too?
I used to smirk at Bobby Sands Rd too, even while knowing that it appeals to the lowest form of bigotry. It still has some novelty value, I confess.
But the burger bar thing (IMO) shows how utterly stupid and ignorant these provocations are. A burger bar in honor of a hunger striker? They can feck off.
At this point, I regard Russia's government as hostile. I see little benefit in hearing their side of the story on all of this anymore, given what they've already said. They can do their talking in diplomatic negotiations with Ukraine, but they shouldn't be given any easy channels into our society to spread bad faith misinformation designed to cause infighting and doubt among the public. They'll do or say anything possible to undermine our unity. It's not just about physical war going on in Ukraine, but a wider informational one.
The jihadis and Iran are anti Russia so framing them for shooting down isn't going to wash. The Taliban aren't exactly friends of Russia either. I have no doubt that they could find a martyr amongst the Arab population but would the world fall for it?
I think that all possibilities will need to be considered and knocking the Middle East out of balance is one way Russia can change the focus of the U.S. - Israel is their weakness.
Renaming it “George Orwell Road” might have been more subtle.
“Orwellian Avenue”
The address has been pretty apt.
This is nothing to do with the Middle East. The Russians are well capable of shooting down another civilian airliner over, say, the Black Sea, and blaming Ukraine/the west.
As soon as they mention it, say, in an official tweet, there is every reason to suspect they would be willing to do it.
Likely the same reason the Israeli embassy is allowed to keep operating after being caught supplying fake Irish passports.
The Chinese seem to have Putin exactly where they wanted him
In few months they'll buy the whole of Russia for cheap.
And net loss in humans? 20k? 30k?
TSMC
Check out the tweet from the mayor of Vilnius:
If Russian speakers in Estonia start a breakaway region without Russia overtly attacking and a few little green men helping the breakaway, would this trigger Nato's article 5?
The lowest form of bigotry. 😂🤣😂🤣
We're in a thread discussing the Russian invasion of a sovereign nation while denying their right to exit, attacking their hospitals, demolishing their cities, they've a list of 2 million people they want to "speak to".
But renaming a street that doesn't cause any harm to anyone. THAT's the lowest, dirtiest form of bigotry imaginable. 🤣😂
It appeals to the lowest form of bigotry within me and a lot of Irish people --anti-britishness. That any clearer for you?
No response on the Bobby Sands burger bar? I think it's sick.. overexcited Iranians sticking it up to their 'enemies' and dragging us into it.
And no the burger bar is not the worst thing happening in the world, but you brought up the Iranians so obviously that kind of thing appeals to you.
Everytime I see one of them in action, that very catchy Bayraktar song pops into my head.
Speaking as a member of this 'public', I'll decide for myself what is misinformation, thanks.
Possibly, it's not where anyone wants Ukraine to be. But, better than 30k+ now than 2 million spirited away to the Gulags for revenge under Russian control... don't you agree?
These people are so fu@king brave, it’s truly inspiring. I hope we see the day soon when Russian people wake up and follow this form of people power.
Calm down, Wibbs will sort all this out with diplomacy. Works every time.
Yes, we really need to work on our anti-British bigotry. We might invade them next.
The burger bar, meh, would have found it funnier a few years ago. As it happens one of my favourite jokes is the one about how many potatoes it takes to kill an Irish man. Because it's a funny joke.
Given Russia hasn't been able to stir up anything very serious there since the protests (over a monument being removed?) and accompanying huge cyber attack they launched against the country in 2000s, I think the ethnic Russians in Estonia possibly know what side their bread is buttered on. So seems extremely unlikely.
I don't know anything much about politics there, but I'm sure Russia hasn't just forgotten them (or the other Baltic states in the EU which were former SSRs) for 15 or so years and must have been trying to provoke internal troubles, but it obviously has not worked well.
