I wonder if this fella has any military or even shooting experience? Is a week of training enough to man a defensive position, I'd guess so but don't really know for sure.
Still I've seen film of auld Ukrainian lads in late '70's being issued with firearms, I would assume they have previous service experience?
Killed a few rabbits with the Grandads shotgun, shooting coconuts at funfairs, that's my "gun" experience, I'd be handy enough repairing electronic kit / general engineering so I'm assuming that's useful in wartime but not much else LOL! 😎
The problem you have is your anlogy only used 1 perspective but there are 2 in this fight, the Russian one, filled with revisonist history, lies and propaganda, and the one everyone else has. Your original analogy used the perspective of the former and so does this one as they both solely portray what the Ukraine is doing as something negative as it only comes from the perspective in your analogy of the Russian neighbour while the neighbour on the other side might have no problem with whats happening, this is why I accused you of swallowing Russian propaganda.
Terrible to listen to that young guy on Liveline the other day talking about how he was going off to Ukraine to help out in some way and then his mother ringing into the show, pretty much in tears, at her wits' end, trying to talk him out of it.
Also, tangentially, can I just say that the people who post exclusively on the Liveline thread are a horrible shower. It doesn't matter how tragic the story being told is, their whole reason for listening to the show is to remind everyone how much they dislike Joe and make comments that come off as beyond flippant where it's a story like the other day.
It doesn't really belong in that diagram, NLAW is more like an unguided rocket (Bazooka/RPG) with a built-in ballistic computer/lead calculator than it is a guided missile which is why it is cheaper and lighter. It flies only in a straight line. What makes it far more dangerous than, say, the AT-4 Ireland has is that it takes a measurement of movement in the three seconds of aiming, so it averages out 'wobble' in the case of aiming at stationary targets, and applies its own lead in the case of moving targets, so you don't need to guess. In practical terms, because of size and weight, every squad (section) would have a couple of NLAWs when there would only be a couple of Javelin launchers in a platoon or even company level.
WW2 tanks like M24 had a very solid "Do not attempt to tow in reverse, even in neutral for short distances" restriction, today's vehicles are a little more forgiving. I don't know about HGVs, but tank final drives normally have an easily accessible quick disconnect. A minute or two with a socket wrench, or on some cold-war vehicles, a specific cranking tool is carried on the tank. As I doubt the Russian system has changed much over the years, I wouldn't be surprised if many Ukrainian farmers have a clue on how to do it.
A children's hospital - Look at the depth of the crater!
And Maria Butina has the brass neck to say Russians aren't targeting civilians.
I'm more in fear of drawing the Liveline crowd on us here than the US fears directly engaging Russia - for similar reasons 😂
That would be the 12.5kg you are referring to, right? What is the longest distance you have carried a 22.7kg (81% heavier) Javelin while on patrol?
Utterly depressing, Russia should have no part in the civilised world for a very long time.
Russia seems to be reducing its requirements faster than Ukraine can comprehend them.
The sanctions are undoubtedly causing severe damage, add to that the Russians are not nearly making ground like they thought, (protip - maybe expend less effort attacking civilians and possibly Nuclear terrorism in Chernobyl)
Like I've said several times, Putin didn't just spend the last 5 years supporting Assad, but also learning from his tactics.
Sickening and makes you wish the Ukrainians could somehow import a few bombs into Russia and set them off in Moscow, give them a taste of their own medicine.
Targeting a maternity hospital... It actually defies belief.
If there is a hell, I hope they rot there.
I assume Zelenskyy knows all too well the repercussions of all out NATO / Russia engagement. I know he’s exhausted, highly emotional and very angry (rightly so) but blaming the west is unfair.
Surely there’s significant weapons movement activity ongoing behind the scenes and not being played out in the media like the mig debacle.
Good thread here on the situation at Chernobyl from a Professor of Nuclear Material Degradation:-
It is a certainty. Be good to keep an eye on these stocks as well as any institutions they owe money to.
You're really not very good at this kind of thing are you?
Unfortunately it's not the first Russia has bombed ,they bombed over 100 hospitals and other medical centers/clinics in Syria alone , according to lavrov they were bombing terrorists
??
Yes to all that. If we are in fact moving to a war time/crisis economy the government will have to provide and subsidize the labor required to make it happen. We can't expect farmers to do all this on their own.
It won't be a food apocalypse here, but unless it is sorted quickly, it will be in North Africa and the Middle East. Hand waving and it'll be fine will not be good enough and the region will be destabilized further.
More pleas from Zelensky for the west to intervene and stop the killing after maternity hospital bombed.
Presumably the usual response from Europe/US upcoming: "Sorry, no, we don't want to provoke Russia".
It looks like things are beginning to simmer amongst the public in Russia.
Allegedly intercepted calls home by Russian soldiers ...
WARNING: Contains graphic images.
Ukraine don't seem to think so. You may well be right, but "...Brigadier General Kyrylo Budanov, commander of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry that will run this legion.
Burdanov expressed his gratitude to the fighters and said they are mostly experienced fighters who have participated in many peacekeeping campaigns around the world.
"Any help is worth its weight in gold," he said."
I would have thought he has already proved useful in terms of propaganda. The assessment of utility is up to the Ukrainians, so I'll trust their judgement on this as they seem to know what they are doing.
