Had the crispy duck with pancakes and hoisin sauce. Very tasty, and the duck crisped up nicely. Being a Silver Hill, the duck itself was a bit on the "light" side, but decent. Would have again.
Tried out the plant based sausage rolls mentioned back up the thread, they were really tasty and nicer than any real sausage rolls Ive had from a supermarket before
Tried the salted pretzel chocolate bar that people had been raving about online. As usual with these things, it's just ok. I probably wouldn't bother again.
Some lovely easter eggs in already! A Tony's chocolonely (rebranded choceur) 70% dark and milk eggs
A free from dark orange egg with truffle, and a free from salted caramel milk chocolate egg
Has anyone tried the cookie dó rolls of cookie dough in the fridge?
We have tried the double chocolate chip one. Went down a treat here, very like the ones you get in the bakery in lidl
It’s very nice, I’m not that keen on the sauce as I find it too sweet but will look into making my own next time.
I make a sour plum duck sauce. I get salted plums in brine from my Asian shop and make the sauce from that. The plums are very sour. There's quite a lot of sugar in it but it's still not sweet.
Ah that sounds good, didn’t know you could get plums in brine, thanks for that tip.
Had this tonight with some of Aldi's goose fat potatoes. Really nice!
Is choceur Tony’s chocaloney
Just the easter egg product afaik and they have a new bar made by Tony's Chocolonely too - similar to the way to go range in LIDL. Both made by TC
Feckers have gotten rid of the Lamb burgers with chili & herb crust. These ones: Irish Seasoned Lamb Burger 340g Butcher's Selection | ALDI.IE
Staff member couldn't tell me if / when they are coming back.
They were fecking DELICIOUS.
I saw lamb burgers on the Super 6 shelves in my local an hour ago, not sure if it was the chilli & herb crust as I didnt look closely
They're gonna be back for BBQ season when weather picks up, I wouldn't be worried too much. Aldi's burger range is the best in summer.
I’ve been pretty stumped by the amount of electrical gadgets Aldi have been stocking lately. They seem to have a gadget for everything but they’ve really excelled themselves now. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the automatic pot stirrer! 🙄
I actually thought of posting the exact same post. Aldi middle isle stuff usually falls into the "Great bargain" or "kinda useful and end up throwing it out in 6 months" type of categories but an electric pot stirrer has to be in a class of it's own.
I'd love to know who's buying them and for what reason? Having said that I don't think too many are actually selling, there's loads still left in Sandyford Aldi.
Maybe they're being used to keep bit pots of paint stirred or something like that?
The only application I can imagine for that is making polenta. It tends to spit quite badly and you can burn yourself easily. I still wouldn't buy it!
Does anyone know if these lamb burgers are still in stock? Never had them before
That's what I was complaining about in my post above. They've taken them off the shelves. They were **** delicious.
Its actually gone pretty ridiculous, at this stage I take a walk down the middle aisles just to see what kitchen gadgets they are selling that I wont be buying. Tortilla makers, crepe makers, waffle makers, hot dog makers and smores makers have all featured in the last few months plus many more. Theyre all branded Ambiano which seems to be Aldis own brand for kitchen gadgets. ts just one big heap of stuff that is ultimately destined for land fill. It goes completely against Aldis campaign to green up on packaging when they're selling all this junk that has a single use and is priced so low that people buy it for the novelty value.
I have to ask.. What is a hot dog maker? Does it allow you to make the frankfurter sausage filling and wrap it (sausage maker), or....? I'm racking my head to figure out what else it could possibly do..
EDIT - My curiosity got too much for me to handle... 😳
I guess this is it? It seems to do a terrible job 😄
Or is it this?
Its the first one you posted that was most recently on sale in Aldi. It seems insane in having a dedicated machine to warm up cooked sausages and a roll but there it is. Will probably get used by people once or twice for its novelty value before spending ages lying in a press and then eventually making its way to a landfill. Its like fast fashion but for kitchen gadgets.
Got the Quesadilla Maker a couple of years ago, and it's one of the most used kitchen gadgets in our house tbh. Probably second only to the Milk Frother out of the middle isle buys.
These are on sale tonight in the lamb section of the meat section (if that makes sense) in Aldi Sandyford. They are a different brand to the previous lamb burgers and I don't see a version with the chilli salt (?) crust but they look like they're going to be a regular product and that they'll do the trick.
Veal 👍
I tried them, they are not a patch on the previous ones they took off the shelves. I actually wouldn't buy them again.
BRING BACK THE SPICY CRUST/CRUMB LAMB BURGERS
I will protest outside my Aldi. I've already sent an email asking about it but no reply.
Fish burgers are back in my Aldi Naas. Didn't think the Lidl ones were as nice
Is this beef brisket pie nice?
https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/ALDIIE/p-beef-brisket-pie-400g-noshtalgia/5391510958383
The Lidl version was lovely. I imagine that's the same product.
Yes it is, a good bit of well cooked brisket and a nice layer of mash on top, quite filling.
On the subject of Aldi Pies if you like old school Steak and Kidney pies I can recommend the "Tasty" Steak and Kidney pies which are only €0.99 each and located right beside the Brisket pie in my Aldi. They have a nice amount of meat and a good quality gravy. A couple of them make a very hearty and filling WFH lunch with a good slathering of ketchup and white pepper!!
