Cat5 interference

My Saorview aerial signal suffers from significant interference when I turn on my router. If I knock off the router the Saorview pic is perfect.

Is there any easy DIY fix that doesn't involve putting in new coax or new network cable?

I tend to just use the apps and cast to the TV as a workaround...but wouldn't mind having the Saorview signal back up & working well.

Is the router close to the TV? If so, move it as far away from the telly as possible.

It's not But cat 5 from the router runs close by TV coax in the aerial booster box.

Don’t run any of the cables across each other either, especially if they’re not shielded.

All the suggestions are that I should run a new cable. But, as per my post, this is what I'm trying to avoid!

I guess the only solution is new cable. I was hoping someone might know of an alternative solution...wrap the router in tinfoil? Pray to St Anthony?

Things I would try ...

Separate the coax and Cat 5 cables, as much as possible. Turn off the Wifi to make sure its not the radio signal that is causing the issue. How old is the Saorview Coax cable?.. If it was used in the analogue days, it will not be shielded enough and will be very much prone to external interference. The shield spec for Saorview (digital) cable, is higher.

On an early experimental use of Saorview using pre-existing cable in my own house, I found that even switching lights on an off would cause the picture to break up or freeze. Changing the cable for the higher digital spec, solved the issue.

yes specifically the op said no new cables. wifi bridge to the camera might work.

Is there a wall socket for the TV aerial ??

It, and the fly lead (sometimes very poor quality) from it can be big culprits in letting in nearby interference

Yes but the problem is most likely the unshielded cat 5 cable. Why would I advise try this and try that when it won’t fix the issue. Wasting time and money. Thanks

OP here. Had a closer look at options this weekend. Router/cat4/coax meeting point is in a relatively inaccessible place.

Anyways, plugged out all power sources for router, phone and coax booster unit. Had a look exactly at the cable runs and then realised rerunning a shielded cable is probably my only option.

Plugged everything back in as it was.

Lo and behold, the problem has disappeared! Don't know how/why but not complaining. All I did was unplug devices and plug them back in again 🥴

Probably just a dodgy connection but it's very satisfying when that happens. Somethings not working so you take it apart, you can't see anything wrong and put it back together again and hey presto! . . it works perfectly!
