Do you still hold the same view of Putin...........?
Exactly. Also, such a 'deal' would be hugely risky and would mean he might fancy invading Ukraine again or go after Georgia or Moldova next time.
Yep, because when that lady isn't serving sausage rolls at the deli counter, she is in the back office bidding on international oil reserves.
Fair enough, but if a nuclear device explodes outside those countries, all I can see happening is a lot of moral debate and hand wringing. People won't automatically turn into robots and happily annihilate millions of civilians. All response would be tactical.
Not taking the whole of Ukraine and installing a puppet government seems like a decent return. As is the withdrawal of Russian troops. If I was Zelensky, I'd take that deal but add the need for non-NATO peace keepers. Having a peace keeping force makes future invasions more difficult for Putin. Not impossible, but more difficult.
To some degree, except renewables tend to need gas as a backup and are a large part of the reason we are in this mess. Nuclear is likely to become a lot more popular.
Historically Jewish players have been are no slouches at the chessboard either. I don't know if Zelensky plays, but he's doing OK so far.
...all world champions, all Jewish.
No way I thought Putin would actually invade Ukraine, and I've been following this stuff on and off for a long time. It makes no sense from a Moscow perspective (it still doesn't make much sense), but here we are.
The only 'deal' that offers any security for Ukraine, is for Russia to retreat to the pre 2014 borders, blow the Kerch bridge and NATO to allow Ukraine to immediately join.
Russia will only negotiate when it believes it is beaten. Once Russia realises that, Ukraine should stick the knife in all the way.
Standing ovation for Zelensky in UK parliament.
Christ above.
Powerful speech. I did tear up - freely admit.
Very interesting, if real, I wonder if this is the very start of some emerging peace deal or solution
Not taking the whole of Ukraine and installing a puppet government seems like a decent return. As is the withdrawal of Russian troops.
But this is worthless if there isn't some reliable assurance the Russians won't be back for more in a year or two. You might as well fight to the death if this is all that's on the table. The peacekeepers might form the basis of a deal but they'd have to be strong enough to face down the Russians.
There is so much emotional incontinence in action here, posters see things that aren't said.
How in the name of jeasus you concluded justification for the invasion from the post was insane levels of strawman.
The original post @WibbsI had replied to was referring to the Ukraine becoming part of the EU, and the fact that they have the globe on their side at present, which they rightly do, but they do need a serious tidy up of their political house, certainly regarding the right wing element, before they can be considered serious candidates for joining the EU.
The right wing elements of Russia are irrelevant to that discussion, why?
Because its not Russia that wants to join the EU
I imagine there is loads of back channelling going on. I do feel we are in the beginning of the end.
The far-right in Ukraine got less than 2% of the vote in the presidential elections. There are EU members with much bigger issues than Ukraine in that regard.
I suspect it was the demand that they couldn't join the EU (or NATO) that was a bigger deal breaker.
There is no way he can hold much more than he's already bitten off, if even that. It's far too big, they are not at all welcome and there is an insurgency ready to go. As for the puppet just long do you think he or any of the rest of them would last without Russian military protection?
Cocks on the block, how big is the right wing element in Ukraine and is it any greater than any other Eastern European state we can draw a comparison to?
Svoboda (a problematic organisation without doubt) have a grand total of...wait for it...hold on to your trousers now...ONE seat in the 450 seat Ukrainian parliament.
So, you're puffing up the hard right problem in Ukraine. For what reason, I'm unsure. If we're denying countries or kicking countries out of the EU for hard right elements in their politics, we wouldn't be starting with Ukraine.
I have mixed feelings about this
Which countries need "a serious tidy up of their political house" again?
Good news on financial front of Ukraine
Says some random turk.....
It's easy to say "you might as well fight to the death" sitting in front of your computer screen, but people are literally fighting to their deaths. Even if there are no future guarantees, it saves the lives of people fighting today and gives time to prepare for a future invasion, which might very well not happen if politics in Russia changes.
I'd certainly be willing to trade "maybe being invaded in the future" for "definitely being invaded now"
Deal with the devil? Coupled with the US feelers to Venezuela, a relaxation of Iran oil sanctions would ease oil prices.
Nonsense your literally making it up as you go along
Exactly. These fight to the death idiots should go over and help out if they're that passionate about it.
If Ukraine gets a deal to give up the pro Russian parts and rule the rest in return for immediate Russian withdrawal they should take it. The sticking point for me would be NATO/EU membership: one of these two is essential to avoid a repeat in the future
